INTROIT. Ps 26, 7, 8, 9. Hear, O Lord, my voice withwhich I have cried to Thee, alleluia: my heart hath said

to Thee, I have sought Thy face, Thy face, O Lord, I willseek: turn not away Thy face from me, alleluia, alleluia. Ps.26, 1. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall Ifear? V. Glory.

PRAYER. Almighty and eternal God, make us ever bear adevout affection toward Thee, and with sincere heart to

serve Thy majesty. Through our Lord.

EPISTLE. 1 Peter 4, 7-11. Dearly beloved, be prudent, andwatch in prayers. But before all things have a constant

mutual charity among yourselves; for charity covereth a mul-titude of sins. Using hospitality one toward another withoutmurmuring. As every man hath received grace, ministeringthe same one to another; as good stewards of the manifoldgrace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the words ofGod. If any man minister, let him do it as of the power whichGod administereth; that in all things God may be honoredthrough Jesus Christ, our Lord.

ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA. V. Ps. 46, 9. The Lord hath reignedover all the nations; God sitteth on His holy throne. Al-

leluia. V. John 14, 18. I will not leave you orphans; I go and Icome to you, and your heart shall rejoice. Alleluia.

GOSPEL. John 15, 26, 27; 16, 1-4. At that time Jesus saidto His disciples, When the Paraclete cometh, Whom I

will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, Who pro-ceedeth from the Father, He shall give testimony of Me: andyou shall give testimony, because you are with Me from the

beginning. These things have I spoken to you, that you maynot be scandalized. They will put you out of the synagogues:yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you will thinkthat he doth a service to God. And these things will they doto you, because they have not known the Father, nor Me.But these things I have told you, that, when the hour shallcome, you may remember that I told you.

OFFERTORY. Ps. 46, 6. God is ascended with jubilee; andthe Lord with the sound of trumpet. Alleluia.

SECRET. Let this immaculate sacrifice purify us, O Lord, and impart to our souls the vigor of supernal grace.

Through our Lord.

COMMUNION. John 17, 12, 13, 15. Father, while I waswith them, I kept them whom Thou gavest Me, alleluia;

but now I come to Thee; I pray not that Thou shouldst takethem out of the world, but that Thou shouldst keep themfrom evil, alleluia, alleluia.

POSTCOMMUNION. As we have been filled with heavenlygifts, O Lord, grant, we beseech Thee, that we may con-

stantly persevere in thanksgiving. Through our Lord.

THE MONTH OF MAY: THE MONTH OF MARY

The pious practice of honoring Mary during the month of May has been especially recommend-ed by the Popes. Pius XII made frequent reference to it, and in his great Encyclical on the SacredLiturgy (Mediator Dei), characterized these "other exercises of piety which although not strictlybelonging to the Sacred Liturgy, are nevertheless of special import and dignity, and may be consid-ered in a certain way to be an addition to the liturgical cult: they have been approved and praisedover and over again by the Apostolic See and by the Bishops."

Ever since the custom began in the 13th century, Catholics, both in church and in the home, of-fer up to Mary during this month of May an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer andveneration. Mary may be honored in the home by placing flowers before her statue or image. Thefamily can then gather together around this "May altar" to pray the Rosary or some other devotionin honor of Our Blessed Mother (such as the Litany of Loreto, the Memorare, etc.).

Prayer of Saint Thomas Aquinas to Our Lady

O most blessed and sweet Virgin Mary, Mother of God, filled with all tenderness, onthis day and all the days of my life, I entrust to thy merciful heart my body and my soul, all my acts, thoughts, choic-es, desires, words, deeds, my entire life and death, so that, with thy assistance, all may be ordered to the good accord-ing to the Will of thy beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Amen

Welcome to St. Mary’s Oratory and the traditional Latin Mass offered by the Institute of Christ the King Sover-eign Priest, with the gracious permission of Bishop David Malloy. We are pleased to have you join us in this venerableact of worship and invite you to return often. In the traditional Mass everyone has his proper role whether it be celebrant, choir, server, usher, or congregation. At High Mass, the choir makes all responses simply because that is their function. The congregation, on the other hand, responds internally, as opposed to vocally, and this is still, according to Pope PiusXII in his encyclical “Mediator Dei” active participation. Active participation is wide-ranging, including singing, silentmeditation or even recitation of the Rosary during Mass, because active participation does not necessarily mean vocalresponses. To assist at Mass more fully, use the missals provided in the pews, paying particular attention to any notes inthe margin. All the “proper,” or particular parts of the Mass are in the bulletin. Simply follow those around you for whento stand, sit, and kneel. Please keep a “holy silence” in the church at all times, out of respect for Christ’s presence in thetabernacle. Since there is no mixing of the old and new rites, Holy Communion is received on the tongue while kneelingat the altar rail without responding “Amen” when receiving the Host.

A kind reminder: only Catholics in the state of grace and havingfasted for 1 hour, are free to receive Holy Communion.

“Enter this door as if the floor within were gold, and every wall of jewels, of wealth untold. As if a choir of fire were singing clear. Nor shout, nor rush, but hush, for God is here!”
