EXTRA ORDINARY MONTH OF MISSION OCTOBER 2019 As you have already heard from Our Bishop Philip, Holy Father Pope Francis declared October 2019 ,being the Ex- tra Ordinary Month of Mission (EMM) to commemorate Pope Benedict XV`s apostolic leer Maximum illud issued on 30 November 1919 and this has the aim of fostering an increased awareness of the Missio ad Gentes and tak- ing up again with renewed fervor the missionary transfor- maon of the church`s life and pastoral acvity, and to help their communies grow in mis- sionary and evangelizing zeal.As an act of Solidarity with whole Church, on Mission Sun- day, 20th October 2019, 2pm Bishop Philip invites you to join him to celebrate Mission Sunday Mass at St. John`s Cathedral, Portsmouth. PARISH PILGRIMAGE TRIP: There will be a Parish trip to the Friars in Aylesford on Saturday 19th October. A coach has been arranged and will cost £15 per person and children are also welcome, payment will be arranged nearer the me. It is a beauful Monastery to visit and a lovely opportunity for all to come together for a great day out. If you would like to come please sign up on the sheet in the Church porch, or for more details please speak to Tony or Paula. Whether you use a ferlity app or not, this is a unique opportunity to discover the spir- itual, praccal and scienfic benefits of understanding your natural ferlity. We are going to combine our parish meal with a McMillan coffee session and lunch will be an early aſternoon tea. Even if you cant stay for lunch, please have a coffee/tea and a piece of cake and put a few pennies in the box. Any contribuons of cake (Home made or bought), sandwiches etc. would be very gratefully received. All goes to the work of McMillan. TASTE OF THE WORLD: Parish event at St. Colmans in the Hall, Saturday 26th October starng at 6.30pm. A chance to bring along a dish of your choice to share with friends in the Parish. More details to follow. PARISH EVENT: The Social and Fundraising group pass on their many thanks for all who parcipated in the Ap- ple chutney making day last Saturday at St. Colmans. The day was a great success and a total of 155 jars were made, these are currently being stored in the dark where the magic happens and will be available to buy prior to Christmas. The Parish thanks all who joined in and for everyone's hard work. Home Missions: This Sunday 2nd collecon is for Home Missions. Please support Home Mis- sions in England & Wales. BAMENDA UPDATE: "Church leaders and human rights groups have condemned the atrocies commied by both sides in the Anglophone crisis which are maintain- ing a climate of fear and prevenng adults and children going about their everyday lives. Unicef have esmated that 4,400 schools have been closed and 74 burned, leav- ing more than 600,000 children without educaon in northwest and southwest Cameroon. Please pray this week that our brothers and sisters in Bamenda Archdio- cese will be able to start the new academic year in safe- ty”. For an update on the situaon please see the Bamenda noceboard at the back of St. Colmans Church. GRANDPARENTS: Calling Catholic Grandparents, Tues- day 24 th September at St. Colmans. An opportunity for grandparents to meet once a month to pray the Rosary for the intenons of your grandchildren is what this is about. Following the morning Mass, we will pray the Ro- sary together and conclude with the grandparentspray- er. We will have tea & coffee aſterwards, whilst we watch an inspiraonal video of Catherine Wileys appeal to all catholic grandparents. Venue – The Presbytery - Please save the date and RSVP to the Parish office by 17 th September. Thank you. JAG: 'JAG Care of Creation Harvest Festival' : We hope that everybody has enjoyed nurturing their seed- lings and plants during the summer, whether in the gar- den or on the windowsill - now its time to get ready to share the fruits of your labours! Please bring your pro- duce - fruit, vegetables, flowers, jam and preserves - to share or swap after each of the Masses next weekend to celebrate Harvest Festival on Sunday 22 September. We will also be making up produce boxes for delivery to our fellow parishioners who are unable to get to Mass. Children's Liturgy, if you would like us to display a photograph of you with your sunflower (or other plant) at Harvest Festival please ask your parent to email a photograph to [email protected]. We would also love to display your pictures of flowers or veg- etables from our wonderful world - please bring those too!'
