On November 9th the Catholic Diocese Office

of Vocations and Black Catholic Ministries of Columbus will sponsor “In God’s Service”, a

vocations program for high school students. This

event will be held at Christ the King Catholic

Church, located at 2777 E. Livingston Ave. in

Columbus. The program begins at 10:30am after

light refreshments in the vestibule, with Mass at

12:00pm followed by a pizza lunch in the under-

croft. This year Fr. Denis Kigozi will be the

Service Honoree and the speakers will be Fr.

David Schalk and Sister Patricia Rogers, OP. To

attend, sign-up with your school chaplain, campus

minister or your pastor.

The Foster Grandparent Program is in need of volunteers. Foster Grandparents are paired with

students enrolled in Columbus City Schools and

provide tutoring, mentoring and support to these

students. Volunteers must be at least 55 years old

and must be able to give at least 15 hours per

week to volunteering. Volunteers also receive a

tax-free hourly stipend if they are income eligible.

Contact Kristi Brown at [email protected] or

614-857-1213 for more information or to volun-

teer.

Our next confirmation class will be in 2018-

2019. It is required that current sixth and seventh

graders who are going to be part of our next

confirmation class attend religious education

classes for two consecutive years. Please register

your children this year (2017-2018) to make sure

they fulfill the two-year requirement.

consecutivos. Por favor registren a sus hijos este

año (2017-2018) para que así cumplan con el

requisito de los dos años.

Religious Ed classes begin this Sunday at 10:15am.

If anyone would still like to register their children, you can do so in the school. You may pay in cash

or by check made out to St. Thomas Apostle and include your payment in the envelope along with the registration form. If you have any questions, please

call the parish office at (614) 252-0976 during normal business hours (Monday through Thursday between

9 AM and 2 PM) or stop in the school on Sunday morning.

What problems in the Columbus area are making you

worried or angry? BREAD House Meetings provide an

opportunity to bring your concerns forward as potential

problems to be researched and solved by BREAD. This

year you can select either of two house meetings being

held in our church undercroft. One choice is Saturday,

Sept. 23 at 12:00 noon, and the other is Monday, Sept. 25

at 7:00 p.m. As part of your personal commitment to

"doing justice", we hope you will join us for one of these

important listening sessions.

What Does The Church Say?

“It is in regard to death that man’s condition is

most shrouded in doubt.” In a sense bodily death

is natural, but for faith it is in fact “the wages of

sin.” For those who die in Christ’s grace it is a

participation in the death of the Lord, so that they

can also share his Resurrection.

Death is the end of earthly life. Our lives are

measured by time, in the course of which we

change, grow old and, as with all living beings

on earth, death seems like the normal end of life.

That aspect of death lends urgency to our lives:

remembering our mortality helps us realize that we

have only a limited time in which to bring our lives

to fulfillment.
