10. The serjeant-niajor is the assistant to t ime-

adjutant. He should make himself acquainted withevery norm-commissioned officer’s name, character, temperand abilities. He will bring at once to t ime notice of

the adjutant any irregularity among the lion-commis-sioned oflicers, whether at the serjeants’ mess or

elsewhere.17. He is to detail all regimental duties.18. lIe is to keep lists of defaulters, see that they

do not evade punislinient awarded, and that they areproperly drilled amid dismissed at t ime hour appointed.

20. He is responsible that t ime tire appliances are ingood order, and that t ime key for the hydrants is in its

place .21 . Ho is to furnish a list of all soldiers confined inthe guard detention room , main guard or police stationto the adjutant daily, and attend at the orderly roomwhile their cases are beingdisposed of.22. He is responsible for the committal and release of

all soldiers to and f r o m the guard detention room anddetention barracks at t i m e proper hours.

23. lIe is to parade all soldiers ordered for trial, theirescort, thewitnesses anti orderly for t ime court, and march

them off so as to be at the court-martial room at t imeappointed hour.24. lIe is to parade all guards, escorts and orderlies

and ascertain that they understand their orders,—particularly t ime rate at whiclm mounted orderlies are to

go and return, and lie is to inspect t ime om-der l ies and

detachments, time serjeant trumupeter will, ummde r t ime officerconimuandiug, take gemmeral charge of all boys.33. Where no scrjeant trumpeter has b e e m m appointed,

34. He will report all neglect of duty or nmiscenduct of

trumpeters to the adjutant.35. He is to instruct the tm -unm peters in trumpet and

bugle sounds and nm ust, in horse amid Field Artillery,

practise t h m e m u , both mounted and dismnounted.30. He is to be present and take c im arge of the

trumpeters when they sound mid-day amid evemming stables,dinners, officers’ nmess callsand watch-settimig.

Orderly O fficer.38 An orderly officer is always to be appointed when

two or Inure batteries are stationed together.30. lie is not to leave the garrison, or exchange his

of the adjutant, even for a few hours, he is cx officio’’the acting adjutant.

guard when one is mounted, visit it once dui’ing the day

and once during the iii~htafter 10 o’clock, under arrange-ments approved by officer coinnianding brigade, lie isalso to visit all the stables, lie is to visit during thedaytime the inca confined in the guard detention roomanddetention barracks, andhe is toask thieiii if they have

any complaints to iiiake, lie is to visit the sentriesand see that they are alert and understand their orders.lie is to mount the stable picquets and visit thepicquet sentries after 1 0 p .m .

42. lIe is to be present every morning at the issue of

the mcii’s rations.43. lie is to visit t Ime canteen daily while open, also

t ime horse lnhrmary and Regimental Institutes, and non-

commissioned ~ room.44. lie is to receive reports when ordered and to

issue orders as to the duties or dismissal of the regimentalpicc luet .

Orderly Serjeant.

40. Time orderly serjeamit is to be detailed weekly

Subaltern Officers.

00. Subaltern officers are required to have a thoroughknowledge of thmeir own section and a g e m m e m a l kmmowl edgeof the battery to wimichi timey belong including all arrammgc-ments on mobilization.

visit t i m e n m c n ’ s breakfast and tea occas ional ly .00. Whmen t i m e battery is quartered at a s i m m g l e battery

stat iomm, he is also to perfornm t ime duties detailed for the

orderly officer.07. in t i m e performance of his routine duties I m e is

his own.

soldiers in arrest are disposed of, and he is to enter m u abook the amount of punishment awarded in each caseS

75. He has charge of copies of qualification returns,t ime register of furloughs, t ime horse book, the various

order books, all books relating to discipline, and ArmyOrders and circulars.78. lie has t ime care amid preparation of the duplicate

attestations, register of marriages and of baptisms, amid

t i m e registerof desertion.77. lIe keeps t i m e roster for guards aimd duties for non-

com m i ssioned officers andmen. Tie sees that the batteryorderlies carry out t h m e i r duties and are properly relieved.

78. He is respom m sible for t ime orders of t ime day b e i m m gcorrectly copied. At single battery stations lie performsthe duties laid d o w m m in paras. 10 to 29.70. It is his duty to pay t ime greatest attention

to t ime battery stables, especially at t iumies when no officer

is present.

Battery Quarterma~ter.Serjeant.

80. TIme battery quartermaster-scrjeant has charge of

deserting, or becoming non-effective by deaths or ethercasualty, arc immediately enumerated en Army
