SCHOOLING The 18-week Mid-Michigan Police Academy, offered in the fall

and spring each year, provides students with more than 650 hours of training.

Candidates applying to the Academy must have an associate degree or 37 semester credits, which include CORE requirements. Candidates meeting the second criterion must be eligible for an associate degree after completing the Academy. In addition, candidates applying to the Mid-Michigan Police Academy should be 21 years of age or older.

You need to attend Police Academies for basic training to continue your training.

Must include a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

a good driving record. no felony convictions. vision correctable to 20/20 with no congenital

color deficiency.normal hearing required.

BENEIFITS OF BEING A STATE TROOPER Troopers earn 13 vacation days in the first calendar year,

accrued four hours every two weeks.  Additional vacation time is accrued based on years of service.

Troopers earn 13 paid sick days in a calendar year, accrued four hours every two weeks.

State of Michigan employees receive 12 paid holidays per year. All enlisted employees are provided with the required uniforms

and equipment.  A uniform cleaning allowance is also provided. Troopers are eligible to retire after 25 years of service.  The

retirement rate is calculated at 60 percent of the average of the last two years of compensation including salary, overtime, vacation time and compensatory time.

MY GOAL My Goal is to become a Michigan State

Trooper. But later work on being in Forensic

Physiology Working in the labs for Profilers who make a “Profile” for unknown offenders.

I plan on attending Basics at LCC then later University of Michigan for the last parts of schooling

MY REASON FOR CHOOSING CAREER I’ve always wanted to be a part of criminal

Justice.Criminal Minds inspired me as well. My Friends dad would explain his job to me

all the time after softball games and I was so interested in it.

EXPERIENCE I’ve been in a police station.

SALARY During their training, recruits receive a bi-

weekly salary of approximately $1,500. Starting salary for a Trooper 10 position is

approximately $41,000.  The maximum salary for a trooper position is

approximately $62,000 at 20 years of service.

something you really want :)

2009 to recognize individuals for their support of the goals and purposes of AAST and its mission to improve the lives of state troopers and their families.

State trooper earn awards based on how long they have been in service.
