MAIN TOPICS

- Studying the most important “Made in Italy” industries: Fashion-Textile, Furniture-Design, Food and Engineering.

- Italian industrial districts’ overview with specific reference to the sectors mentioned above;

- Which strategic drivers will affect “Made in Italy” industries in the next years ?

COURSE OVERVIEW

-Focusing on industrial districts where the most relevant “Made in Italy” industries are developed ;

- Key concepts: internationalisation and main opportunities created by globalisation’s challenge.

- Written exam at the end of the course;

- Thursday, May 4th 2011: the day of the exam;

- Readings and basic texts: Notes, slides, companies/guests’ presentations, and any sort of document you are given during the lectures (e.g. FT’s articles);

- Recommended textbook: F. G. Alberti, “Entepreneurial Growth in Industrial Districts, four Italian cases” F.G.Alberti, S.Sciascia. C.Tripodi, F.Visconti, Edward Elgar 2008.

ONLY for NON Attending Students (< 80% lectures):

- Oral exam;

- The exam will be hold during the summer session;

-Textbooks:-“Entepreneurial Growth in Industrial Districts, four Italian cases” F.G.Alberti, S.Sciascia. C.Tripodi, F.Visconti, Edward Elgar 2008.

- “Management in the fashion Companies” Saviolo S. and Testa S., Milan: ETAS 2002

- Students that have not attended – at least – 80% of the classes will not be allowed to take an “attending students’” exam;

- Lecturers will check students’ attendance every lesson;

- If a student cannot attend a lesson, he/she must explain the reasons by writing to the lecturer ([email protected]). If a student does not provide any explanation, he/she will be automatically considered as “absent”.

For attending students: the final mark will be the result of the following:

10 % student’s contribution during the lessons;

60 % written exam;

30 % pj. presentation.

PROJECT PRESENTATION 1/2

- Group work (about 6 students);

- Company analysis: you should choose an Italian “Hidden Champion” operating in an industrial district/Italian sector.

- Hidden champion: is a company that has a relevant potential in its sector - without being a leader;

- Students have 20 min. to present the Project (.ppt format + word report) to the class.

- Thursday, March 2nd: by this day students must send group participants’ names via e-mail ([email protected]);

- Thursday, April 12th: project presentation’s day;

- Project presentation is compulsory for all attending students (it will contribute to the final mark – 30%).

PROJECT PRESENTATION: How to make it ?

1)Focus on one of the most important “Made in Italy” industries (Fashion, Food, Furniture, Engineering);

2) Hidden Champion must be a part of an industrial district;

3) Students should present the following:

- Why have you chosen this company ? - Company’s analysis;- Industrial district’s main characteristics;- Company and Industrial district’s evolution;- Main findings.

As already mentioned, each group is to consist of about 6 students;

A “team leader” will be elected by each group to discuss any topic related to pj. presentation with the lecturers;
