    Y e a r - E n d R e p o r t

    [Students Rights and Welfare Committee]

    Vision/Mission:

    Quench your thirst, SIP!Serve, Involve, Protect

    We will serve the students by providing activities to ensure theirwelfare and well-being, will be involved in their needs to have a break from

    their academic load, and will advocate defending and protecting their

    rights to organize as a college. Likewise, we would challenge the CSSPstudents to serve in the form of volunteerism, to be involved in the collegeand the college activities and to protect their rights as students and as a

    college.

    Thrust:

    To provide venues for CSSP students to foster a holistic development

    through special events and upholding student welfare issues and

    advocacies

    Projects:

    I. Pahinungod: Summer EditionDescription:

    Arts and dance workshops were held during the summer for kids.

    Encourage and provide venue for student volunteerism thissummer

    local govt because they said they would be responsible in inviting people. However, the

    II. Suloa. Description:

    To convene a new Sulo EdBoardTo be in charge of the Photo Studios

    Have close connections with Mandala

    Make Sulo an official organization for graduating students

    This summer, the STRAW Committee wishes to convene a newSulo EdBoard that they can work closely with regarding yearbookmatters.

    CSSP Varsity Teams work and play hard to represent CSSP in theDiliman games but despite all the effort they still have to shoulderall the expenses for their training sessions and uniforms. Thissemester, a convention for all the CSSP Varsity Team captains willbe held to discuss training and financial matters. The council andall CSSP Varsity teams will participate in IGPs for financialassistance.

    6 It was really hard not having financial aid for the teams from the

    administration or even from external sources.

    VI. Freshie Circle

    a. Description:

    The Freshie Circle is the prime venue for freshmenstudents of the College of Social Science and Philosophy tohave a company and a support group within the college.Through the Freshie Circle, the freshies will meet new

    friends both from their discipline and other disciplines aswell. Since the freshmen have similar experiences, thiswould be a good venue for them to seek help and companyfrom, and eventually build lasting friendly relationships.The circle would also engage the freshmen to participatein the college activities and establish leadership andcooperation among the organizations committees.

    The freshies would be divided into committees of theirchoice. They would be given 3 choices (ranked accordingto preference) and the STRAW committee would deliberateand assign them on their committees. The freshie circle

    would meet again to elect their executive committee andtheir committee heads. The circle would be an individualentity but still under the supervision and guidance of theSTRAW committee.

    Our CSSP freshies will have a headstart as the STRAWCommittee will convene all blockheads and even individualmembers who are interested so that they can get to knowmore people not only in their course but also in the collegeand work together regarding batch activities and projects.

    VII. BIBOLYMPICS

    a. Description: An amazing race inspired activity for the freshie blocks to bond

    among them and develop friendly competition with the otherdepartments. The 14 freshie blocks from Anthropology (1),Geography (1), History (1), Linguistics (1), Philosophy (1), PoliticalScience (4), Psychology (4), and Sociology (1) would race to finish

    passing through several stations around the UP Diliman Campus.There will be a total of eight stations on selected spots/buildingsaround the campus with different tasks to be done related to adiscipline in CSSP. They have to accomplish each task to get totheir next station. Once the task is completed, the stationmanager will give the team a puzzle piece and a clue that wouldlead them to their next station/destination.

    To make a venue for the freshies to bond with their blockmatesand block handlers.

    To introduce the different disciplines of the College of SocialScience and Philosophy to the freshies.

    A lot of freshies came even those not joining the actual race

    The freshies had fun

    Find a way to ensure safety of freshies more like giving a chaperone per group, etc.

    VIII. KAPPwa: Saving Lives by Donating Blooda. Description:

    The Quezon City General Hospital has a lot of patients in need of blood.We opened this venue here in UP so that those people who want to donateblood to those people in need can.

    Were the objectives met? Yes.

    Actual Audience vs. Target Audience (if applicable): Target was 40. We got more thanthe target.

    A lot of people donated

    They were very happy with the free key chainsd. Points for Improvement:

    IX. Office Awarenessa. Description:

    A simple but interesting program shall serve as the launch of the

    entire campaign.

    The offices will be introduced in many ways such as print, media

    and online as much and as diverse as possible. An example of

    which is a bookmark given at the launch as a souvenir, containing

    important information regarding the offices. (i.e. contact

    information, etc.)

    The council shall serve as the students liaison to the offices,communicating whatever concerns they have for them and viceversa. These will be done through regular announcements (includeobjectives, means, and speakers if there are any)

    To publicize the existence, composition and functions of the

    different offices of the college and university.

    To recognize the importance of the link between the students andoffices, making them more informed of the needs of one another

    A lot of people were attracted to the design of the exhibit so they checked it out.

    A lot of people manifested that they were happy with this activity because they dontknow about these offices

    Flyers or bookmarks should have been given for more publicity of these offices

    There should have been a list that was posted somewhere in AS for the whole year.

    X. Grad Core

    a. Description: STRAW has designated two council members to handle graduate

    students concerns, as well as set liaisons for them to make the

    council services more accessible to them. They will constitute theGrad Core that will make the CSSPSC more accessible to thegraduate students.

    To project an image to the graduate students that the CSSPSCalso caters to their needs

    To be able to relay the councils campaigns, services, andactivities to the graduate students in CSSP

    The graduate students were very glad that we were reaching out to them

    They have been more participative availing of the councils services, participating incampaigns and activities.

    Timing; be very aware of the schedule of the graduate students because they have longresearch breaks.

    XI. World KAPP: KAPPalakasan 2010

    a. Description:

    TheKAPPalakasan is one of the institutionalized activities and oneof the most awaited activities in CSSP. This year, the theme wasWorld KAPP inspired by the World Cup. Each department had theirown country names

    Anthropology as ANTHROmeda, Geography as GEOGanda, Historyas KASakhstan, Linguistics as PiLINGpinas, Philosophy asPHILOppines, Political Science as POLSCIberia, Psychology asPSYCHOslovakia and Sociology as SOCIOstan.

    The main goal of this project was to foster camaraderie among theCSSP students and to bridge the different departments.

    This was also the first year where a Cheerdance competition washeld, because of this, some departments have already establishedtheir dance crews.

    A lot of activities were introduced at this years KAPPalakasan.

    Council can probably create an Adhoc Committee for KAPPalakasan because its reallyhard for a single committee to handle everything, given that at this time, STRAW alsohad other projects.

    XII. CSSP Org Fiesta! Description:

    To introduce the several organizations to all CSSP and UP students

    To raise awareness on organizations functions, relevance,importance, achievements and goals

    There were 14 organization who participated and providedinteractive booths to showcase their organizations culture.

    A lot of people enjoyed the booths

    XIII. Student Activism Celebration

    Description: familiarize the audience with the efforts of thestudents during the 70s to fight for students rights and the effortsof our current leaders to enact a law to further institutionalizethese rights

    We were able to tie-up with the Acad Circle

    A lot of people attended

    We were able to show them student activism through a filmc. Points for Improvement:

    XIV. Straw Bill Foruma. Description:

    The Bill of Rights training with the USCs SLAAC Committee

    To acquaint CSSP students with the Bill of Rights.

    XV. KAPPaskuhan 2010: Himig at Hatawa. Description:

    An annual chorale competition in CSSP of different orgs/groups whowould represent the college in the University Karolfest.

    There were also performances from the council, different performinggroups and the faculty.

    A lot of people attended and enjoyed

    XVI. Parolfesta. Description: to foster environmentalism and the Christmas spirit to different orgs

    and individuals through parol-making. Were the objectives met? yes Actual Audience vs. Target Audience (if applicable): Met

    Although done for the first time this year, a lot of people liked the idea and participated

    Some professors required their students to make parols

    XVII. Safer AS Campaign Description:Palma Hall would be assessed and things needed would be identified and

    acted upon.

    There was also a forum Ingat KAPP! Where the audience were taught how to ensuresafety not just as individuals but even safety of the building.

    A Christmas party for the kids of Pook Palaris who may not be as festiveduring this season

    XX. CRSRSa. Description: To inform and involve the students with regards to the Office of the

    Student Regent and the Codified Rules for Student Regent Selection. The orgs andcore groups were consulted regarding their stands on the said document. A public

    GA was held to present the position papers of the differentorgs/groups/individuals regarding this matter. Were the objectives met? Yes Actual Audience vs. Target Audience (if applicable): Yes; hopefully more non-affs be

    9XXI. OSA Guidelines

    a. Description: A taskforce composed of the STRAW Committee and differentvolunteer orgs would draft the new guidelines for the Office of Student Affairs ofCSSP.

    XXII. Budget Cuta. Description: A campaign that informed and involved students regarding the

    crisis the university was facing. Were the objectives met? Yes Actual Audience vs. Target Audience (if applicable): Yes

    We were able to release primers and a statement regarding the matter.

    We were able to lobby in the Congress and in the Senate.

    We were able to mobilize outside the House of Representatives as studentrepresentatives; sending a message that the students are not in favor of this said cut.

    We were able to join the strike in the University.d. Points for Improvement:

    More involvement from the Students.
