LARGE // FORMAL // RESIDENTIAL:Studio Cultivate have expertise and experience in working on a large landscape scale. Design masterplans can be produced in conjunction with precise planting plans and construction detailing.

Liriodendron tulipifera planted on mounds frame a key vista from the house. New estate fence adds minimalist sophistication to the paddock boundary.

PROJECT: PRIVATE RESIDENCELOCATION: WILSTSHIRE

The site masterplan involves the creation of two large paddocks, each with installation of mature, specimen trees. Garden spaces closer to the house become increasingly intimate, featuring water-features along with herbaceous and shrub planting schemes. An orchard, wildlife area and fruit and veg area were also created within an exisitng walled garden.

Concept diagramatic sketch outlines the proposal’s key design moves. These included reshaping and landscaping of the existing lawn, and the creation of a number of mixed perimeter borders.

The design focuses on drawing residents and guests into the gardens by highlighting important vista lines from the property.

MEDIUM // HERBACEOUS // RESIDENTIALStudio Cultivate creates vibrant, herbaceous planting schemes to bring colour and energy to gardens.

A combination of aromatic and evergreen shrubs, medium sized Betula and self-seeding annuals creates a dynamic and ever - changing garden scene.

The creation of gravel circulation spaces softens the distinction between planted areas and areas of hard landscaping.

PROJECT: PRIVATE RESIDENCELOCATION: SOMERSET

A variety of plant forms, textures and colours bring year-round visual interest to a garden whilst complementing the harder architectural surfaces of the circulation spaces and buildings.

A combination of annuals and perennials in the orchard meadow brings the lower part of the garden to life in late summer. This colourful display is proceeded by the orchard’s ripening apples, pears and plums.

SMALL // MINIMAL // RESIDENTIAL:Studio Cultivate create small to medium sized gardens for private clients. The process is personal and tailored to the client’s specific needs. Studio Cultivate’s principle intention is to create beautiful and dynamic spaces that can be enjoyed and engaged with throughout the year.

Tall Verbena bonariensis and small tree (Amelanchier lamarkii) give areas of the raised beds added height as well as further seasonal interest.

Pollinator shards dissect the garden’s plan. The planting scheme within each shard is designed to attract bees, butterflies etc, essential for the successful growth of fruit and veg elsewhere in the garden’s raised beds.

PROJECT: PRIVATE RESIDENCELOCATION: SOUTH LONDON

The creation of raised beds helped seperate the garden’s programme between leisure and productivity. The raised beds are packed with fruit trees, annual fruit and vegetables aswell as pollinator friendly plants. A medium sized lawn allows for relaxation and play space.

A discreet wiring system, hung between timber posts enable various climbers and espalier trees to create a natural boundary between the client’s and neighbouring gardens.

URBAN // SCHOOLS:Studio Cultivate works closely with schools across London to create vibrant and productive gardens. These gardens become play spaces but also learning resources. Studio Cultivate collaborates with pupils and staff from design concept to plant installation in order to enhance the school’s sense of ownership.

PROJECT: MONTESSORI NURSERYLOCATION: CLERKENWELL, LONDON

Studio Culivate designed and built a series of timber planters for a deeply shaded nursery garden.

The woodland style planting palette ensures healthy year round growth and visual interest, despite the lack of direct sunlight.

PROJECT: PRIMARY SCHOOLLOCATION: SHEEN, LONDON

Concept sketch developed with pupils for living tunnel. Drawing depicts tunnel’s wire and timber structure, designed to be slowly enveloped by a number of climbing plants

PROJECT: MONEISSORI NURSERYLOCATION: SHEPHERDS BUSH, LONDON

The creation of numerious large planters in this south facing west London school enabled the planting of an expansive fruit and vegetable garden, complete with annuals, perennial herbs and espalier fruit trees.

Raised timber planters allow plants to grow at a height at which they can be enjoyed by children but high enough to be protected from ball games etc.
