Whether you opt for platform, shoe boots, wedge or stiletto – make sure you go for stacked heels – the higher the better! We saw nothing but super high heels on the A/W catwalks, especially at the Yves Saint Laurent show! There are no hard and fast rules this winter, just let your shoes do the talking - team glam shoes or boots with simple evening outfits. It’s all in the detailing - studs, zips and lace are big news, so why not invest in a new pair of party shoes and stay one step ahead in the style stakes!

Strictly SuperstarAlesha Dixon

Did you always want to be a singer? No not really, I only wanted to be something quite normal. When I was younger, I got a place at uni and decided not to go at the last minute. I started dancing, got spotted and was asked to be part of a new girl band. I was very lucky. Being in a band was just a dream for me that I thought would never come true.

Do you have fond memories of being a part of the girl band Mis-Teeq?Yes definitely, I toured the world with the band and performed at some amazing places we even performed in front of the Queen. It was an unforgettable time in my life. Im so grateful I got to do all the things I did, it was incredible being a part of Mis-Teeq, we were together for 9 years so we did a lot together in that time.

Are you still in touch with the girls?Yes, we all have kept in contact, they are both doing really well. Su-Elise has opened her own stage school and Sabrina is persuing her music career as a solo artist.

Tell me about your new album Unleashed? It’s quite poppy with a bit of R’n’B, I do a bit of MC’ing on a few of the tracks. I’ve also done a couple of collaborations on there, one of which is with Roll Deep.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?Well, Strictly up until the end of the year and then I’ll be promoting my new album at the beginning of next year, I’ll hopefully be doing a few more documentaries and a tour too.

Who or what inspires you musically?I don’t really get inspired by a particular person, I am inspired by real life situations and experiences. When I’m writing I tend to draw on real life situations that I’ve been in and can relate to.

Are there any music artists out there that inspire you or you look up to?Lyrically Lauryn Hill, and I really love listening to Faith Evans.

So do you say that you have quite an eclectic taste in music?Definitely, I like a wide variety of music like reggae, pop, funky house – it all depends on what I’m doing.

If you could work with any other artist who would it be?I’d love to collaborate with Justin Timberlake.. Also I would really like to work with another female artist, someone like Cheryl Cole or Lily Allen, definitely a strong woman!

What’s your ultimate ambition?I would love to be touring internationally and be known all over the world for my music, like in America and have a successful album over there.

What do you find challenging when writing?I find it challenging to write about things I never experienced myself, it’s hard to write about things you can’t relate to.

What do you like to do when your not working?Well yesterday I had a rare day off and I enjoyed a bit of pampering, I got my nails done and had lunch with my best friend, it was a great day off!

So you are back on the judging panel of Strictly again, how you finding this year?I’m loving it, I think we have some great talent on the show this year, there are lots of celebs that stand out. I really couldn’t guess who is going to win, there are really good male and female contestants this year – its really anyone’s game.

Talks to boohoo Features Editor Laura Costin & Fashion Editor Samatha Bowman

MUSIC&TV

Page 24: Style Fix Magazine

Do you have a favourite contestant?Being on the judging panel I couldn’t pick a favourite, but I think having the likes of Ann Widdecombe really adds the entertainment factor of the show. It’s so much fun this year.

Is it hard being a judge after being a contestant? Do you ever just want to get back no the dancefloor?Honestly – no! I know how nerve racking it is. It’s very nice to sit behind on the judging panel now!

What do you do on your days off?See friends, chill out and spend time with my dogs – I love my dogs!

Describe your perfect night out? What would you like to be doing and who with?I love going out for dinner so it would definitely involve eating out with friends. Then maybe drinks in a nice bar and then maybe on to a club afterwards.

I hear you have a new documentary about domestic violence, is this an issue close to your heart? It is. I witnessed domestic violence when I was a child and I want to highlight that children who see such terrible things are affected by this issue too and hopefully bring awareness about it and use my fame to try and help others affected by it.

At boohoo we always used healthy sized models, do you think its important for you to portray a healthy body image as a woman in the media?Yes definitely. I’m the creative director of LA Fitness so keeping fit is really important to me. I think sometimes people get it the wrong way around these days – if we exercise and take care of ourselves inside then it will show on the outside. Saying that though I haven’t managed to get the gym for about 4 weeks, I’ve just been so busy!

After being in the industry for 10 years, is there anything you would do differently? No, I don’t think so. I haven’t always made the right decisions, but its all part of growing up.

22 | Interview

Is your on/off stage style the same?Definitely not! My stage costumes are over exaggerated for my performances. I like to be a bit understated when I’m not working. I like to have my tracksuit days and all that.

Have you had any fashion disasters?Yes I had a horrendous skirt which had a wolf printed on it. I can’t blame anyone for this skirt but myself! Oh my god, it was awful!

Do you get time to shop?I don’t you know, I love online shopping though – that’s my favourite, it’s so easy – I definitely get time to do that.

Do you have a style icon?I love Victoria Beckham – she always looks amazing. So immaculate, I don’t think I could ever be bothered to put so much effort into the way I look like her though, it would take too much time.

Describe your style in 3 wordsColourful, short and funky.

Many thanks Alesha...

Alesha’s album Unleashed will be availableto buy in the new year.

It’s party time girls, so wing your way to each party with edgy glitter eyes that catch the disco lights as seen on the runways of Moschino and Giles Deacon. Teamed with a new take on the quiff, your only worry will be which new Boohoo party dress to wear…

Glitterati-party

1: Touch baseUsing a crème based eyeshadow that sets such as Mac’s Paintpots @ £12.5 each, apply a winged out smoky eye on the top lid.

2: Top glossTake a clear lip gloss, Vaseline or Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour cream @ £16.00 and apply over the top of the base (this will secure the glitter and give a cool deconstructed look).

3: Glitter girlUsing an eyeshadow brush, press the glitter onto the gloss in stages to build up the intensity of colour and sparkle.

4: Curl and combOn pre-curled hair, take the top front section and backcomb at the root using a tail comb.

5: Create the quiffUsing a soft bristle brush, gently smooth the backcombed section and secure at the crown with a couple of Kirby grips.

6: Roll with itStarting at the back of the head, twist the hair into a french roll leaving the curls loose at the tip. Backcomb gently and roll over the quiff to create a soft modern look.
