THE STORY ABOUT OUR LOGO
On July 1, 2008, Broward Community CollegeofficiallybecameBrowardCollege.Thename-changelegislation,signedbythenGov.CharlieCristreflectedtheCollege’sstatusasafour-yearbaccalaureatedegree-grantinginstitution.
PresidentJ.DavidArmstrong,Jr.saidofthename change, “This in no way changes our mission as a community College; what it does do is meet critical workforce needs in Broward County.TheCollege’sfour-yeardegreesareahallmarkoftheexcellenceandaffordabilityofourinstitution.Wewillcontinuetoembraceandsupport our two-year degree programs, while we expand our curriculum to meet the needs of our community.”ThenamechangeisthefourththeCollegehasoperatedunder,asitsroleevolved inthecommunity.

WHAT iS A STYLE GUidE?
A style guide or style manual is a set of standards for writing and designing printed or online communicationsmaterials.Materialsintended for internal or external audiences work within the frameworkofthestyleguide.Theimplementationofastyleguideprovidesconsistencyoftextandformatting and reinforces and supports the image andbrandofanorganization.Thedesiredresultis an enhancement of audience recognition of the institution’scommunicationspieces.
Styleguidestandardsforpostingonawebsitemayalsocovertechnicalaspectsalongwithformatting,typographyandtext.
Manystyleguidesarerevisedperiodically toaccommodatechangesinconventions,communicationtoolsandusage.
ThisstyleguidehasbeendevelopedtoaidthoseinvolvedinproducingcommunicationsmaterialsforBrowardCollege.Itisanidentitysystemthatincludes,butisnotlimitedto,printedmaterials,websitepagesandpromotionalitems.Themanualisavaluablereferencetooltoenableadherencetothestandardsaspresented.Adheringtoanidentitysystemprovidesmanybenefits:
•Acomprehensive,well-managedidentityconfersstabilityandprofessionalismtoBrowardCollege’sfaculty,staff,students,andcommunity.
•Astrongvisualidentitysystemisafundamentalcomponentofanoverallimagestrategy.
• The identity system outlines consistent methods ofpresentinginformation,therebyimprovingqualitycontrol.

One of the most important elements in an identity systemistheuseoffonts.Theyaredistinctiveandrepresenttheinstitutiontoitsaudiences.
Broward College documents should only usethefontsillustratedbelow.Nomorethantwofontfamiliesshouldbeusedinonedocument.Families are one typeface in normal,bold,italic,bolditalic,etc.
Alwaysusetheactualfonttochangetoboldoritalics,nottheshortcutkeysavailableinsomegraphicdesignprograms.Usingtheshortcutkeysoftencausesproblemsintheprintingprocess.In addition, use only one space after a period, nottwo.Thisisstandardprofessionalstyle,becausecomputersnowautomaticallyincreasethespaceafteraperiod.
