LEARN TO SWIM AT THE Y.For many, the YMCA was where one learned how to swim as a child and for good reason. Since 1885, the Y has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literally millions of people have learned to swim through the YMCA’s perfected program. In Y Swim Lessons participants learn and practice new swimming skills and feel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they can enjoy the rest of their lives. MINI SESSIONS:Mini Sessions are only offered during the summer. Students will meet 4 days a week for two weeks. The extra practice and repetition in days has shown to progress a swimmer at a faster rate. Mini sessions are also a great way to fit swimming with a busy summer.

Level 1 & 2: Shrimp & Inia Program instruction in this class is directed toward helping parents to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic water safety and swim skills. Each child should always be accompanied by one adult.

Level 1: Pike The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level: 2 Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive. PREREQUISITE: Swim 20 feet on their front, back and side without assistance. Swim 25 yards on their front, back and side with assistance.

Level 3: Minnow In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive, basic front crawl with rotary breathing 25 yards, basic breaststroke 25 yards, alternating backstroke 25 yards, elementary backstroke 25 yards, side stroke 25 yards and tread water for 3 minutes. PREREQUISITE: Swim 25 yards front crawl face in, 25 yards elementary backstroke and 25 yards alternating backstroke. Comfortable in deep water and putting face in the water.

Private Swim Lesson Private lessons are 30 minute lessons by appointment only. You must sign a contract with your instructor before your lessons start. A copy of your receipt must be attached to the contract. The date and time will be agreed upon by the instructor and must be stated on the contract before classes start.

Buddy Swim Semi private lessons are 30 minute lessons by appointment only. You must sign a contract with your instructor before your lessons start. Aquacise Aquacise is a FREE class for members. This class uses the resistance of the water combined with the floatation devices to create a total body workout. You are not required to know how to swim and the class is great for all beginner and intermediate exercise levels.

SPORTS AT THE Y.Meet friends, learn new skills, improve your fitness and most importantly have fun! Whether its gaining the confidence that comes with learning a new sport, building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork or refining and improving skills, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole athlete-inside and out.

Karate - All Levels Taught by Sensei Reed Sensei Shorts (Wabash). Learn the history and techniques of Okinawan Goju,. Registration is required. Purchase of a dojo is required after second week. Students progressing will be invited to attend and participate in tournaments.

Silver Sneakers Develop muscle strength and range of motion in a series of exercises designed to enhance daily living skills. A chair is used for seated and standing support.
