SUMMER CAMPS

ABOUT OUR STAFF Simply the BEST! We are extremely selective when it comes to hiring our summer staff. We hire only THE BEST. As a result, we hire only highly motivated, energetic counselors with a commitment to FUN -- and an equal commitment to camper safety. All staff are college-age or above, and most are pursuing degrees in education or recreation. All staff participate in a comprehensive, week-long training, including on-site certification in CPR and First Aid. Our lifeguards are American Red Cross certified.

CAMP COMMUNITY Campers are divided into groups by grade to provide appropriate activities at every level. The staff-to-camper ratio is one staff to every ten campers. Campers are under the care of camp staff at all times. Campers engage in activities with their own age group as well as participate in camp-wide activities and special events.

Staff work closely with campers to promote a spirit of teamwork, cooperation and respect. All campers are expected to follow our behavior contract. Detailed information can be found on our website. If a camper's conduct jeopardizes the physical or emotional well-being of others, he/she may be dismissed. While no one is forced to participate in an activity, staff are trained to help campers feel included, and every effort is made to encourage participation. Our goal is to ensure that every child feels connected and is a valued member of our camp family.

CAMP SAGE Camp Sage is an exciting adventure for children entering Pre-K though 8th grades. There's something for everyone on our 22-acre site including:• Swimming - campers swim daily in our on-site

heated pool.• Field Trips - campers will attend a field trip

weekly to area attractions/or in-house entertainment.

• Sports & Games - traditional sports activities as well as competitive and non-competitive games.

• Games - goofy games, agility games, thinking games, messy games!

• Character Development - weekly activities focus on the four core values of the YMCA - Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

• Special Events - every week features an exciting special event that ties in with the weekly theme!

• Art - campers will learn skills in a variety of pursuits including drawing, crafts, mosaics, sculpture, recycled creations and much more.

• Disc Golf - campers grades 5 and up will have a blast challenging themselves in this individual sport of throwing a disc to hit a target. They will learn to hone their skills of precision and accuracy much like the game of golf only using a disc instead.

• Archery - campers in grade 5 and up will learn to safely shoot a bow and arrow at our archery range.

PRESCHOOL CAMPS Age 3-5 (3 year-olds must have been born before Aug 31, 2009) Discovery is designed for children who have not yet been in kindergarten. Make the most out of your child's summer and choose 5 Full Days or 3/5 Full Days and have your little one jumping for joy. We provide a low counselor-to-camper ratio so your camper will receive the attention and supervision he/she needs.

The activities include weekly swim lesson, fun games, sports, arts & crafts, songs, outdoor exploration, character development, recreational swimming and weekly field trips or special event. New and exciting adventure each week! All campers must be potty trained (No pull-ups.)

TENNIS CAMP The Quickstart Tennis play format takes a new and better approach to introducing kids to the game. Balls are lower in compression; they bounce lower and don't move as fast so they are easier to hit. This innovative approach to tennis allows for a higher success rate in children, therefore fostering a love for the sport.

Taught by staff who are trained directly through the United States Tennis Association's Quickstart Tennis program.

YMCA Family Camp NawakwaFamily Camp Nawakwa offers a unique experience- an opportunity to bring together whole families, not just children, through camping. The camp sits on 180 acres of pristine forest lands, and includes wetlands and lakes with abundant wildlife. The camp is nestled in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, which is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

YMCA Camp IndependenceCamp Independence is a special place for campers age seven and up with spina bifida and other neurological disabilities. At camp kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group. At camp, we teach self-reliance, a love for nature, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character. Our counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.
