Royal Botanical Gardens Discovery Day Camps are about fun, education and respect set in one of the most biologically diverse natural areas in Canada. We provide hands-on, environmental and education based programs that suit the ages, needs and interests of our participants. These award-winning programs feature hikes, canoeing in Cootes Paradise, games, crafts, activities and daily explorations of ecologically signifi cant nature sanctuaries covering over 1,000 hectares of wetlands, fi elds and forests. Our goal is to introduce your child to a lifetime of respect andappreciation for the natural world that sustains us all.

Programs are created age and stage appropriately for children within the listed age group.
Half-day programs for 3- and 4-year-oldsThese daily, 2.5-hour programs (9:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.) introduce young children to the wonders of the outdoors and allow them to experience many different aspects of our day camp programs. These programs take place at RBG Centre in Room 3 and make use of the natural and garden areas locatednearby. A full-day program is also available for 4- and 5-year-old children. Allparticipants must be toilet trained.
Nature ExplorersDiscover caterpillars and butterfl ies hiding in the garden, hand-feed chickadees and chipmunks while on our nature trails, search for reptiles and birds, view the world through a bugs eyes and visit the homes of all sorts of animals. Get your hands dirty as we search out crazy creatures, fi nd playful plants and discover life in the great outdoors. Play, explore, craft and ramblealong all while being amazed by the creativity and wonder of Mother Nature.
Family Day for Half-Day Camps Camp is a new experience for our youngest visitors,and we understand that some children may not feel comfortable their fi rst day. If your child is registered in our camp for 3- and 4-year-olds, be sure to join us on Monday* for family day. As aparent or caregiver, you are invited to join us forthe program so that that you and your family can see what camp is all about, discover the wonders of nature and ease any worries.
* This event takes place on Tuesday, July 2 andTuesday, August 6 following holiday Mondays.

Dinosaurs! Weeks 1, 4 and 7Explore the fascinating and the ferocious as we have some giant-sized fun during this week all about dinosaurs! RBG hosted Battle of the Titans, a dinosaur exhibit in winter 2013, and were still in the spirit. Crafts, games, hikes, canoeing and exploration wait for us as we dig for and discover these magnifi cent giants and their living relatives. If youve ever wondered about or been amazed by these great creatures, this week is for you!
Creature Craze Weeks 2, 5 and 8 Join us for a great week all about the fascinating creatures of the earth, seaand sky. Campers discover the crazy, the weird and the downright wonderful world of animals through games, stories that come to life, zany crafts, interactive nature walks and great environmental activities. Come meet andlearn how to protect friendly feathered friends, camoufl aged critters and funkyfl yers. Join a camp where the fun never ends!
RBGs Wide World of Nature Weeks 3, 6 and 9 Through nature walks, canoeing around Cootes Paradise Marsh and lots of funeco-games, come explore and help protect the beautiful forests, fi elds and wildlife sanctuaries of RBG. Come along as we hike, play great games, makesome cool crafts and become amazed by the creativity and wonder of Mother Natures fragile beauty. Explore our world from the familiar to the unusual andfi nd out why plants, animals, weather and conservation play such animportant role in our lives.
6- and 7-year-oldsAll programs include canoeing, crafts and outdoor activities. Programs are created age and stage appropriately for children within the listed age group.
Green Kids Weeks 1, 4 and 7Do you love nature and spending your days outdoors in a beautiful forest coming up with ways to save the planet? Do you love interesting animals andfascinating plants and helping them live? If you do, then this camp is for you! Join us for exciting games, fantastic nature hikes, explorations of Cootes Paradise Marsh in canoes and involvement in projects that have a positive impact on the future of over 40 species at risk that live on RBG property and the planet at large. Learn, play and enjoy this week as you become as green as you can be!
Animal Wonders Weeks 2, 5 and 8Explore the huge, the tiny, the bizarre and the remarkable world of animals.Discover caterpillars and butterfl ies hiding in the garden, hand-feed chickadees and chipmunks while on our nature trails, search for reptiles and birds using binoculars and view the world through bug eyes. This program has been specially designed for high-energy, hands-on learners interested indiscovering the world of animals through entertaining and exciting activities.
Young Naturalists Weeks 3, 6 and 9 Explore the natural world of birds, bugs, plants, weather, cycles and everythingthat lives and exists in your own backyard. The 27 kilometres of nature trails that crisscross 971 hectares (2,450 acres) of forest and wetlands make RBG the perfect setting for hands-on discovery of the diversity of our natural surroundings. Learn to observe and understand the connections and relationships that make up our special lands by hiking, canoeing and of course, playing lots of games.

Outdoor Adventures Weeks 1, 4 and 7 Back by popular demand! Get the most out of the outdoors during these days of discovery, environmental appreciation and outdoor adventures. Experiencededucational guides provide the perfect opportunity to get to know the plant and animal species that make up our endangered bioregion. With activegames and environmental awareness, these days offer the best of what RoyalBotanical Gardens Discovery Camps are famous for.
The Science of Nature Weeks 2, 5 and 8 Back by popular demand! Come out as we explore the interactions,connections and fascinating lives of plants and animals from our forests, fi eldsand marshes. RBG is a biodiversity hot spot that includes close to 1,200 wild plant species, 277 different kinds of birds, 29 types of mammals, 68 species of fi sh, 13 species of reptiles and 9 types of amphibians. Enjoy in-depth nature walks, canoeing, eco-adventures and environmental games during this weekof amazing investigations. Just imagine the possibilities!
Eco-Explorers New Weeks 3, 6 and 9Uncover the secrets of ecosystems and explore our fragile natural world. Through games, activities, hikes and participation in active conservation effortsand projects, campers get an up-close experience in conservation, investi gation and fun! Our living laboratory provides you the perfect opportunity to get to know the plant and animal species that make up our bioregion and how we can protect them. Get the most out of the outdoors this week adventure,discovery, environmental appreciation and outdoor fun.
10- to 13-year-olds All programs include canoeing, crafts and outdoor activities. Programs are created age and stage appropriately for children within the listed age group.
Venture Quest Weeks 1, 4 and 7Spend this extremely popular week exploring RBGs 2,700 acres of natural lands through all-day hikes on our fascinating and (sometimes) challenging nature trails, extended canoe outings throughout Cootes Paradise and adventurous games that challenge the way you see the great outdoors. This camp includeshikes up to 8 kilometres long and canoe excursions lasting up to 3 hours; participants should be physically capable of taking part in such activities.
A Living Laboratory New Weeks 2, 5 and 8 The forests and wetlands habitats that make up RBG are known as Canadasbiodiversity hot spot, with close to 1/4 of Canadas wild plant species found growing wild here. Investigate, explore and discover the patterns of life in these habitats as we delve into the sciences of our natural world. From life ina drop of water to the world of the cosmos, join us as we go on outdoor adventures, play games and get our hands dirty to uncover the mysteries of life all around.
Mission: Nature Survival Weeks 3, 6 and 9 One of our most popular camps, Mission: Nature Survival is back for another year! Learn the ropes as you spend the week outside learning how to use the natural surroundings to your benefi t. Build a shelter, get water from a tree andhave a blast surviving the great outdoors. Games, canoeing and hikes round out this week of team building, co-ordination and skill.
Overnight Camp-Out for 8- to 9- and 10- to 13-year-olds On Thursday nights, the 8- to 9- and 10- to 13-year-olds camp programs offer an overnight camp experience for registered campers. This is a great opportunityto explore the forest at night and experience a camp-out in a safe and fun atmosphere. Overnight accommodation is in waterproof, nylon tents. Leadersare in adjacent tents and campers are supervised at all times. Participantssleep indoors in the event of inclement weather or extreme heat. Participantsreceive a packing list and scheduling information upon arrival at camp.
The overnight program for 8- to 9-year-old campers is an additional $35 (you may register for this on your application form or while at camp).
The overnight program fee is included in the 10- to 13-year-old campregistration and is non-refundable.
The overnight fee includes healthy meals and snacks for the evening and the following day.
8- to 9-year-old campers who do not register for the overnight need to bring a healthy and nut-safe lunch and snacks for the Friday.
10- to 13-year-old campers who do not sleep over will have healthy meals and snacks provided for the Friday.

Garden Explorers Camps for 5- to 8-year-oldsThese fun, environmental education-based programs introduce children to the joy of the outdoors and the delight of gardening. Plant, maintain and enjoy your garden plot while we hike, play games, craft and canoe our way through ecologically signifi cant nature sanctuaries and a multitude of beautiful gardens. These programs take place at RBG Centre in Room 5 and make use of the natural and garden areas available out our back door. All programs include daily outdoor activities, canoeing on Thursday and Friday, and occasional crafts. Programs are created age and stage appropriately for children within the listed age group.
Burst into Bloom Weeks 1, 4 and 7From small fl owers to towering trees, the world is full of strange andwonderful plants. Royal Botanical Gardens offers an enormous array of gardens, greenhouses and natural lands waiting to be explored. If you haveever loved a garden or a green space, this week of fun games, crafts, garden outings, planting and outdoor adventures is for you!
Art in the Garden Weeks 2, 5 and 8This hands-on program introduces the joys of creativity in gardening, growing and of course, art! Campers have the opportunity to paint, draw, create and explore the numerous gardens, visit with professional gardeners, play cool games, create with plants and plant your own seeds, fl owers and fun!
Natures Gardens Weeks 3, 6 and 9The world is at your fi ngertips this week as we explore the plants of this great planet we call home. Biomes and ecosystems fi lled with strange and unique plants await your exploration and cultivation. Through games, crafts, outdoor journeys, garden visits and plantings, hikes and hands-on environmentalactivities, everyone will leave with a green thumb.
Food, Friends and Fun Weeks 1, 5, 6 and 8RBG Centre; ages 6 to 9Back by popular demand! From garden to table discover food the way Mother Nature intended it to be! Kids delight in getting their hands dirty, both in the gardenand in the kitchen and go home with a recipe book at the end of the week. Developed by a naturopathic doctor and a nutritionist, this camp program incorporates food education with whole body health including group activities for exercise and relaxation. Let your kids discover the FUN in healthy and balanced living!
