DIGICUBE:ANALYSERS FOR SAT, TV & CATV SIGNALS

The DIGICUBE is a professional, combined analyser, with a 4-2250 MHz frequency band, for digital QPSK-8PSK SAT, COFDM TV and QAM Cable TV signals. It is the first professional instrument with touch screen technology: Rover’s vast experience has allowed to further simplify and speed up the measurements of a television signal distribution system, maintaining Rover’s measurement equipment philosophy (Examiner, ST4, etc. In this way the installer is not obliged to change his habits if he already owns another Rover meter. Its simple operation makes it easy to use also for installers who have field strength meters made by other manufacturers. This is also good news for installers who do not already own a Rover meter, but who are attracted to this model and want to purchase it for their profession.

In the television signal installation industry there are numerous parameters to be measured, so professional measuring instruments are usually require considerable effort to understand and use their many functions.The new DIGICUBE redefines the standard way of using a field strength meter, because it is immediate and intuitive to use; it does this by using new, advanced software and a touch screen display.

The DIGICUBE is supplied complete with a bag and shoulder strap, complete with light shield flaps, which are useful in direct sunlight or rainy conditions.The bag also includes a list of useful suggested parameters for television signals that show the minimum and typical modulation values: SAT, TV and CABLE.

screen equipment. The time required to access all functions is notably reduced thanks to the icons and graphic symbols, which, when shown on the screen, allow direct access to the measurements to be carried out and make all functions comprehensible also to installers who are new to the use of measuring equipment.

The TFT LED touch screen in 16:9 format has a generous size. Navigation and function selection is carried out by simply touching the “virtual keys”, shown as icons on the display, and these allow you to immediately identify the specific function. All this happens each time that, for example, you have to measure a signal parameter, recall a function, or visualize the spectrum. A menu is present on each display to guide you through the selection of the measurement and function you require.

Touch screen technology makes the meter even more robust and reliable: the mechanical rotational encoder has been replaced by a “cap-touch encoder” and mechanical keys have been replaced by the capacitive keys, except for one key used to turn on the instrument.

Within a normal use, the surface of the screen is very resistant to scratches, because it has a special coating, which is the same as the covering used in touch screen equipment at restaurant cash desks, services stations etc., where there are unfavourable working conditions.

MeasurementsThe DIGICUBE allows you to carry out

measurements of all analogue and digital parameters on a signal in the digital terrestrial and satellite bands; it can even measure GSM and UMTS telephone signals in the extended 4-1000 MHz and 930-2150 MHz bands. This instrument can work with DVB-S/S2, DVB-T, DVB-H and DVB-C standards and performs digital power measurements, automatic quality analyses (with PASS/FAIL/MARGINAL indication), measures the BER before and after Viterbi, the MER and PER parameters. This allows you to check the contents of a transponder or a DTT Mux format, from free to air to encrypted channels, with A/V PID identification, display of the bit rate of each program expressed in Mbit/s and an index of the transmitted quality pictures.

it. Furthermore during spectrum visualization it is possible to store the spectrum image, both the instantaneous one and its peak. This function is quite useful when, at a later stage, you have to point the satellite dish to the same satellite. The Installer can in fact memorize the image on the DIGICUBE after having carried out the optimal pointing of a specific satellite and then recall it when pointing to the same satellite again. Therefore simply overlap the stored spectrum image with the spectrum being received in real time, we can make sure that the dish is being aimed in the right direction. Spectrum visualisation is very “FAST” compared to previous models and the “SUPER FAST” feature can be selected practically in real time: finally this is the fastest SAT digital spectrum available on the market today. The DIGICUBE can set markers, creating a reference mask with frequency settings for the calibration and customisation of filters, amplifiers etc.

The DIGICUBE carries out measurements on high definition TV and SAT channels.

ConnectivityThe DIGICUBE is extremely light (it weighs

only 2 Kg) and compact, it is not cumbersome, considering its reduced dimensions, which are 11.5 (H) x 24.5 (L) x 18 (D) cm and has excellent autonomy varying from 2 to 3 hours. It has a PCMCIA slot to insert a CAM card. This slot has two uses: it can check whether the customer’s CAM card is operating correctly and also allow you to clearly visualize the crypted channels. The USB port can be used, for example, to download on a PC memory plans, spectrum screens of the signal’s measurements using Smart software. This software is also suitable to manage data stored in the data-logger and to carry out firmware upgrades. On the right you can see a SCART socket, which is useful to visualise the pictures from an external decoder (and to check its correct operation) or to adjust and check a TVCC camera. Finally there is a switch to deactivate any remote voltage when operating in Cable networks with on line voltages of 66 Vac.

IMPULSE RESPONSE: this is a fundamental measurement for ECHO identification in a COFDM signal and to reduce interferences. N.B. Rover meters are the only ones that can show up to 16 echoes and pre-echoes in real time, in other words, by simply turning the antenna you can see a variation.

Reliable and intuitiveTouch screen technology makes the Digicube

even more robust. It does not have a mechanic rotary encoder, which has been replaced by a cap-touch encoder. It is more reliable than any other meter with a membrane key board because all its funcions can be selected directly and immediately by touching the “VIrtual” keys on the TFT display (avoiding any false contacts). The home page, as well as all the navigation menus, have icons that allow the installer to immediately understand the specific role of the “key” used to quicky reach the measurements.

Large screen, 6.5” and 16:9The surface of the screen, with normal use, is very

resistant to scratches and has been treated with a special coating that allows use even in adverse conditions. The large TFT color display, in 6.5-inch 16:9 format, can show sharp pictures and display an accurate spectrum, without neglecting any detail.

measure the following signals: SAT DVB-S and high definition DVB-S2, digital terrestrial DVB-T, DVB-H mobile reception and cable DVB-C (C2 and T2 optional) and thanks to the extended 4 to 1000 MHz terrestrial band, it can also carry out measurements on GSM telephone repeaters. It has many functionsThanks to its integrated MPEG system, the

Digicube can identify and display the contents of a transponder or a DTT Mux from free-to-air or encrypted programmes (both radio and TV), indicating the bit rate (Mbit / s) of each program. It can carry out pointing of both terrestrial antennae and satellite dishes, with absolute precision. The Digicube can automatically recognize the type of terrestrial signal, analog or digital, thanks to the Autodiscovery function, in either measurement or spectrum mode. The function, which analyzes echoes and the constellation in COFDM, helps understand how echoes and noise interfere with the DTT signal. Thanks to its high memory capacity the DIGICUBE can save, and internally recall many signal spectrums obtained during antenna and dish alignment. With this function the installer can recall a stored spectrum of the chosen satellite, and overlap it on the signal currently received from the antenna, this function facilitates the alignment.
