Practical InformationPre-booking is necessary to guarantee your place.

Clothing:Bring warm clothing for all our tours. For example a thick sweater, a waterproof shell and wear good walking shoes. For those who need, we can provide raincoats and some extra clothing, just ask when you book the tour.

Departures:Departures dated in the brochure are all guaranteed. Other dates can be booked for a minimum of 4 persons on any other weekday. All tours can be booked as private tours at any time, please contact us for more information.

Security:The Icelandic climate is rough and very variable, so is the terrain. We therefore reserve the right to alter and modify our program at any time during the trip to assure the safety of our clients and staff. Our well trained guides will do their very best to assure you have a safe and pleasant journey.

Languages:All Iceland Rovers day tours are conducted in English. Other languages are available upon request for private departures.

Super Jeeps:All the Super Jeeps we use for our adventures are specially outfitted Land Rover Defenders, Nissan Patrols or Toyota Land Cruisers that have been modified for expeditions in Iceland’s remote, rugged and scenic landscape. They are mounted on 38” or 44” tires, equipped with a GPS satellite navigation system and VHF-radios, to get you around safely and in comfort. We do our best to choose vehicles that have low emissions and favorable fuel consumption per passenger seat, to minimize the environmental impact of our Super Jeep tours.

Viking Parliament, Glacier, Lava Cave, Hot Spring and WaterfallsEnjoy an amazing tour through a landscape of extreme contrasts, full of history and geology. Our day begins with a stop at Þingvellir National Park, the site of the ancient Viking parliament dating back to the 10th century. From there we head into the highlands, through the barren mountain pass of Kaldidalur to Langjökull for an unforgettable discovery of this enormous glacier. The lava field of Hallmundarhraun is our next destination where you will explore one of Iceland’s biggest and most majestic lava caves. Eyjafjallajökull Volcano and Glacier Walk This exciting day tour is our winter version of the Þórsmörk Glacier Valley tour. We setout from Reykjavík, taking the road east towards the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano. There we head inland in the direction to Þórsmörk and all the way up to Gígjökull, an outlet glacier that falls down from the Eyjafjallajökull Crater. Here we can get an idea of the forces at play in the 2010 eruption as the impact of the eruption is still very visible on the glacier and the area around it. Continuing east we come to Sólheimajökull glacier where we go for a short and easy Glacier Walk up onto the ice field (1h30). As we learn more about the Icelandic glaciers we examine the wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses. On the way back to Reykjavík we visit the impressive waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.A winter tour full of adventure and activity!

In the Shadow of the VolcanoÞórsmörk Glacier Valley, named after the mighty pagan God Thor, is a natural oasis that lies just behind the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The 2010 eruption altered the appearance of the landscape here but at the same time it reminds us of how the elements of ice and fire constantly shape and reshape the surface of our planet. To get into this land behind the glaciers can be quite the adventure. We have to drive on a 4x4 track, over numerous unbridged glacial rivers, some of which can be quite deep. Once there, you will find yourself in a magnificent valley, full of geological wonders and unique vistas that Icelandic nature lovers have enjoyed for centuries. On your way back, the spectacular Seljalandsfoss waterfall awaits where the brave one can venture behind the cascading water. A 4x4 tour into Þórsmörk Glacier Valley is truly an experience of nature.

Craters and Volcanic LandscapeThis is a unique and unforgettable tour through some of the most rugged terrain in the southern highlands of Iceland. We start by heading to the foot of Hekla where the landscape has been shaped by centuries of volcanic activity. In our jeep we climb as high as 1000 m (3280’) above sea level to enjoy fascinating views over the Fjallabak Nature Reserve and some of Iceland’s magnificent glaciers, although visibility is weather permitting. Now we are in one of the largest geothermal areas in Iceland where fire and ice shape the landscape. We continue to Landmannalaugar where a short hike to enjoy the colorful landscape and a warm bath in a natural pool is optional before heading back to Reykjavík. This is a land of unreal beauty with an amazing range of colors, steaming hot springs, glacier ice and explosive craters.

Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir and Langjökull glacierÞingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient Viking parliament and listed as a UNESCO’s World Heritage site will be our first stop. There we take a walk to experience firsthand the geological phenomenon that is the Mid-Atlantic ridge. From Þingvellir we head east over Lyngdalsheiði following a mountain road with great views of the rugged lava fields, passing Laugarvatn lake, we arrive at Haukadalur, home of the great Geysir and the reliable Strokkur geyser that erupts with 3 to 7 minutes intervals. Next the magnificent Gullfoss awaits us as it comes cascading down the white colored Hvítá river. We then head up to Langjökull glacier for a look and feel of the glacier. During the summer months we take the backroads through lava fields for a super jeep adventure back to Reykjavík.

Steaming lava and Iceland‘s youngest cratersAn exciting day tour that takes you to the area of the recent eruption that made headlines all over the world. Our destination is the Fimmvörðuháls pass and the craters Magni and Móði (1100m) that erupted during the first phase of the eruption. Just east of the world famous Mt. Eyjafjallajökull volcano we turn onto a mountain track leading up the Fimmvörðuháls pass. Leaving our vehicles behind at 800m altitude we gear up for a 3 hour long hike to the craters where the fresh lava is still steaming and glowing under the surface. While exploring the craters and these new grounds you will get a sense of the forces of nature that were at work. A breathtaking view over the Þórsmörk valley and the glaciers descending from the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap are also ours to enjoy. On the way back you admire the picturesque waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss where the brave ones can venture behind the waterfall as it falls off its cliff!

Northern Lights, Black Sand Beaches and Lobster FeastYou will be whisked out of Reykjavik in search of a night sky that is free of city lights in order to enhance the beauty of the Aurora Borealis as this spectacular natural phenomenon is best enjoyed well away from any light source. On the way we will head down to the black sandy beaches of the south for some Icelandic delicacies, before continuing our search for the wonders of the night sky. The road takes us to one of Iceland’s most renowned seafood restaurants for an unforgettable lobster feast. Landmannalaugar Week-End Winter Adventure with the Golden CircleLet’s get out there and experience some of what the Icelandic winter has to offer, the Icelandic way! Super jeep adventure in unpredictable weather, blizzards, and great food in a comfortable mountain hut followed by hot spring bathing and looking out for the northern lights! The tour takes you to the area “behind the mountains“, Fjallabak, in the South Highlands of Iceland. Our route takes us past volcanoes, mountains, hills and craters that in winter are covered with a beautiful snow blanket. Our final destination is in Landmannalaugar where the striking contrast between ice and fire creates a magical world. Here we spend the night in a comfortable mountain hut and have a three course BBQ lamb dinner. Right next to the hut you find a natural warm river, perfect for a relaxing bath under the stars, while waiting to see if the Aurora Borealis come out and dance in the winter sky. On our way back the next day a visit to Gullfoss and the Geysir geothermal area will put the finishing touch on your winter adventure week-end.
