The Staff Sections

These six staff sections will be meeting on various dates during the week of October 8, 2012. Please see the individual staff section meeting dates on the previous page or on the enclosed agenda and registration form. For more details, go to www.ncsl.org/SuperPDS.

The Legislative Information and Communications Staff Section (LINCS) is the voice of state legislatures and provides a forum for public information officers, press secretaries, photographers, and media producers.

The National Association of Legislative Information Technology (NALIT) provides legislative information technology professionals with opportunities for training, professional growth and information sharing.

The Leadership Staff Section (LSS) provides a forum for leadership staff to enhance communication among members and help to increase the effectiveness of leadership staff in the legislative process.

The National Legislative Services and Security Association (NLSSA) represents sergeants-at-arms, security personnel, state police, and service staff, who provide protection and services to legislatures.

The Legal Services Staff Section (LSSS) represents legislative attorneys and paralegals involved in bill drafting, legal research, administrative rule compilation and publication, and litigation.

The Research and Committee Staff Section (RACSS) is the organization for legislative staff involved in research, policy analysis, committee staffing, and member or constituent services.

The Plenary Speakers Madison, Wisconsin

Joint plenary sessions for all six staff sections will feature these noted speakers and authors.

Wednesday Breakfast Plenary: Decoding Body Language Janine Driver is a former ATF agent, the New York Times Best Selling author of You Say More Than You Think, and president of the Body Language Institute.

Thursday Breakfast Plenary: Are You Hyper-Connected? Lee Rainie is Director of the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project and co-author of Networked: The New Social Operating System. He is a former managing editor of U.S. News & World Report.

Thursday Luncheon Plenary: Compromise and Negotiation in the Legislative Arena Professor Ralph Cagle teaches negotiation and compromise skills at the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is a former key aide to legislative leaders in Wisconsin.

Explore Madison by enjoying activities on the pedestrian mall downtown, walking or running the trails around its many lakes, or visiting the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Whether your interests are the great outdoors, a day of shopping, cultural outings, or a night on the town, Madison has it all.

A selection of art galleries, museums, the opera and symphony are just a few of the city’s cultural highlights, many of which are within walking distance of the Madison Concourse Hotel.

The state capitol dome is the second tallest in the nation, after that of the nation’s Capitol in Washington, D. C. No buildings constructed in Madison may be taller than or overshadow the State Capitol. Many of the sessions at the Super PDS 2012 will be held in the Capitol and participants will have the opportunity to tour this beautiful and historic building.

For more information about local activities, please call (800) 373-6376 or go to www.visitmadison.com.
