Methods of Subtraction• Again, children need to know their number bonds to 10 and

• Next step is to use number lines to COUNT UP eg 48 - 29

First we partition the 84 into a convenient multiple of 7 + the rest

This is probably the method that children struggle most with. This method as with multiplication enables pupils to understand how the numbers work together.

best ways for children to learn maths.
