Surah Ar-Rahman (Ayah 21-26) March 9, 2013
Introduction Last week we talked about the universal signs of Allah. The human being benefits from every part of the universe. Allah made everything in the universe small or big as a mercy for the human being. Also in the previous Ayat Allah mentioned about the creation of the human being and and that of the Jinn.
Then we are told about رربب ٱٱلمشرقيین and رربب ٱٱلمغربيین. Then in Ayah 19 Allah tells us about the two seas meeting together. Allah decreed how the seas meet and for how long. The seas are not supposed to transgress and exceed their boundaries and mix with the other. For us we feel it is the same water but infact it is not the same. This is because everything in the universe is in submission to Allah. Their submission is a mercy for the human beings. This is why when we submit it is mercy for others and ourselves because when we submit we free our selves from hell fire and also we help the whole universe with our obedience to Allah. If someone sins then the whole universe is affected by his or her sins. Now in today’s lesson we will see the Ayat that comes next about the sea.

The Blessing of universe
Ayah 21
So which of the favors of Allah would you both deny?

Ayah 22
”means “they come out يیخرجج
“ means “from it (two seas) منہما
“ means “pearls ٱٱللؤلؤ
“ means “corals ٱٱلمرجانن وو
The things mentioned i.e. pearls and corals are for the purpose of beautifying the humans. Both the things mentioned here are not essential but something extra. It is more of an accessory. There is Rahmah from Allah in not just the essentials but also in the extra things. We need to appreciate the extra things as it indicates how much Allah cares for his creation
If we study how the pearls are created then we find that the pearl is just a way of defense of the oyster form the grain of sand, which enters the oyster. The Oyster defends itself by creating layers of protection for several years that creates a pearl. In Arabic pearls have diff names depends on the size.
1. Small pearls are called Lulu
2. Pearls of big sizes are called Dana
Allah made the pearls as an adornment for the ladies. Just imagine the pearls of Paradise. In Paradise the grains of sand on which the people will walk will comprise of pearls. There is Rahmah from Allah in creating the pearls.
As for the corals it is an animal having different colors. Generally for all beings when they have children they are separated from the parent. However for the corals it is different as their children are attached to them. The coral comprises of the whole family together. Their kingdom is the whole family being together. The biggest coral reef is in Australia 1600 Km and the width is 50 km. Even the fish plays hide and seek in the coral. This is all happening inside the sea.
The description of the pearls and the corals is being given by Allah as the Prophet SAW did not see a sea in this life.

Though in the sea we have other creatures but here Allah only mentions the pearl and the coral. We see the greatness of Allah, we see Allah’s Rahmah and most of all we see Allah’s love because how the people adorn themselves
Whoever reads this Ayah, it will make his mind and heart awake.
Ayah 23
So which of Allah’s blessing you both deny? If you deny you cause your own destruction. What makes you deny after seeing all these Ayat from Allah.
Ayah 24
This Ayah is telling us about the ships. There are different types and sizes of ships. Now in this Ayah we will see how Allah describes the ships. This description cannot be given by anyone except the creator. The Prophet SAW cannot give this description, as he never saw a ship in his life.
We have ships that are small boats and others that are big ships that have hotels in it. The big ships are constructed as if they have a whole city in it.
The human beings built / constructed the ships but Allah when he mentioned about the ships. He said:
”means “For Him وولهھ
The previous Ayat do not mention وولهھ because it is obvious that Allah created the sun, moon, pearls,
corals etc. and there is no confusion in this regard. However the human being is deceived when there is a means e.g. for the ships. When man built the Titanic he thought it would never sink as the people put all their talent and experience into building this ship. The human being was so proud and arrogance about the ship they built therefore Allah caused the Titanic to sink as a lesson.

All that we see on the surface of the sea, what makes it to be “on the surface of the sea”? It is only Allah. So this ship that we see, it belongs to Allah
How does the ship belong to Allah? Though we see the human being built it
We have different explanations for this.
1. When the humans built the ship. From where they take the material? The source is from the nature (iron, wood etc).
2. Who made the human mind to think how to make the ship? It is Allah. Allah gave the brains to the human being to think and construct the ship.
3. The first one to invent the ship was Prophet Noah who was inspired by Allah on how to construct the ship.
4. Allah gave the characteristic to the sea so that it can carry the load of the ship on it. The water is comprised of 2 atoms of Hydrogen and one atom of Oxygen. H2O. All of the H2O attach to each other to comprise the sea. No matter what amount of force we have on the sea the more the H2O will push to the other side. This is called floating. Why do people sink? This is because we are afraid of water. The moment you think about sinking you sink. The ships are very heavy and are capable of carrying tons of load.
This ٱٱلجواارر is plural and feminine The .االجواارريي singular is جارريیة The root of جارريیة is يیجريي\جريي which means “running”. جارريیة also means a woman who is serving like a waitress. She
comes and goes. Here it means a ship that is floating easily on the sea.
منشاةة This is also plural and feminine. The singular for this is ٱٱلمنشـٴاتت which comes from نشا (to
construct) and the word is أأنشأ (to make something). A person who construct. ٱٱلمنشـٴاتت is used for a complicated construction Imagine how Allah described the ships.
1. It is something that is floating and smoothing running and servant serving us and 2. It is being constructed on the land and goes on the sea.
The Quran is here telling us about something in the future. As they only had normal ships in the time of the Prophet SAW, Now we have ships which have hotels, swimming pools etc. This is actually
There are even some ships that are like factories like those being used for oil .ٱٱلمنشـٴاتت
Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman (Ayah 21-‐‑26) • • • • • •

One meaning of نشا is “to construct” and the other meaning is “to raise”.. When we construct and we
find it is ررفع (raised). . ٱٱلمنشـٴاتت meaning which means “to be raised” like buildings on االمرفوعاتت
top of each other till it will be raised like a building.
”means “in فى
”means “the sea ٱٱلبحر
The فى here gives the meaning of the مكانن i.e. place on the sea. Also it refers to the submarines as they
are in the sea and floating and it is like a construction. This gives the meaning that whether the ships (construction) is on the sea or the submarines (construction) that are in the sea. All belong to Allah.
م ـ which means flag or signal or a sign that is used to علم means “ like the flags” . This is from كٱألعل
distinguish.
The ships when they are floating on the sea look like a flag or landmark.
Also the scholars say that here it also means like the mountains. How the ships are like huge mountains on top of each other. They carry heavy stuff from one place to another. For humans the main basis of trade is shipping. We can carry any amount of load (small or big) using ships. This is Qudrat Allah. Majority of the goods are transported from one country to the other countries through the sea.

Ayah 25
So which of Allah’s blessing you both deny? We need to appreciate Allah’s blessing and not deny the blessings of Allah. These are the blessings of Allah that he bestowed on the human beings. Although we do not thank Allah for all the blessing and we do not appreciate but Allah does not deny us the blessing.
االننعممم ممننن لطططططاىىففف (Ayah 26-32)
The Blessing of universe
Ayah 26
Here in this Ayah we are told that everything in the universe will perish. This is also a blessing of Allah. Allah made everything in the universe for the human being to know about Allah. Everything is subjected to the human being so that we can focus on worshiping Allah in order to serve Allah in this Duniya. There is a time when everything will end. This includes the human being and all the other things in the universe.
Allah mentions in this Ayah that nothing will remain on this earth. The previous nations used to live for very long and as we move towards the end of the world the life span is shortened. For Ummat Mohammed the average age is 60 or 70. At the age of 40 we need to get ready to depart this world. This is why Allah mentions about age 40 in the Quran. All the beauty in the universe, all the things that we benefit from, all the people including us will perish
”means “everything كل

Actually this is فانن فاني . This is from the word فنى and يیفنى. This means to perish. This does not
mean die but it means perish. It can be for trees, plants, humans etc.
There is another Ayah in Surah Kahf, which explains the same concept.
Allah made everything on the earth as an adornment. Why? The beauty we see around us is a test for us. What is the test? The test is for us to not only focus on the beauty but to focus on the thing behind the beauty that is Allah. We should appreciate that it is from Allah. Don’t admire and be amazed with the things itself. Everything should remind us about Allah. If we indulge in the thing itself then we have failed the test.
The beauty exists for us to have good deeds. We enjoy the beauty and thank Allah. When we only indulge in the Duniya we go backwards.
In Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman even when Allah is talking about perishing it is soft. In Surah Kahf it is mentioned strongly as Surah Kahf is about trials.
How Allah mentions the death and even that is mentioned softly/gently in Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman.
No one will exist forever and this is a blessing. Why is this a blessing? Because if there is no death we have to wait till Day of Judgment. This is difficult for the believer as well as for the sinner. Imagine we have exam the whole year then it is very stressful. Allah is telling us we have a short time in this Duniya and after that everything will perish. There are 2 different types of perish:
1. While we are alive our cells keep renewing like the cells of our skin. This indicates the dead skin cells
2. The other death is when a person dies his or her soul is separated form the body. The body of the person who dies will go in the ground and the soul after the questions of the grave will be in delight or punishment depending on the deeds of the person. There is a separation of the body and soul. When the person dies it is the minor Day of Judgment. Then the trumpet will be blown and everyone will perish and die at the same time. So pre Day of Judgment people will be already dead due to Angel of death or they will die when they hear the blow of the trumpet.

What is now the impact if we know that everything will perish? 1. We need to do the best in the life. Everyone in this life is running whether it is for the pleasure of Allah or to cause destruction to themselves by not running for the pleasure of Allah. We know that at the end we will die. May Allah make us do as per his pleasure.
2. Don’t make the matters of the Duniya stressful for us. In this Duniya we cannot perfect our life. We should not make any matter of the Duniya a big deal in our life. The big deal in our life should be that we don’t want to be in Hellfire. Human beings are losing their energy, as they are too stressful about the Duniya. People want everything to be perfect
We should think why are we created? To worship Allah. Allah will sort our problems and will take care of all our matters.
We should take it easy in this life in matters of the Duniya. When we miss our prayer no one stresses. We say Allah is Ghafoor and Raheem. We should not stress about matters between people ( e.g. people did this or that or is any person dies) as these things are not important because it is a test for us. Here in this life we need to deal easily with everything and not with stress. In order to improve our relationship with people we can imagine this is our last meeting with the person so we want it to be good. We should deal with people as if it is our last meeting with them so they have a good memory about us. We should use the situation with people to be close to Allah. If a good person meets us then we should think then this is from Allah and He sent the goodness to me. If the person is bad even then we should deal with him nicely and think that we are doing for Allah. When we think we are servant of Allah we don’t work for ourselves and we will not hold anything against anyone.
If we are good doer then death is end for you to do your deeds as well. This is good for us as we did some good deeds and in return Allah gives us Paradise. Death is a full stop even for worship otherwise we would have to worship till the Day of Judgment.. Allah appreciates the little things we do and gives us paradise. Death is a mercy for the good doer. Also the death is mercy for the sinner too because if he sins till the Day of Judgment then he will deserves so much punishment. Even for the sinner the death is a mercy, as he does not get more punishment. Also his death is a blessing for the whole of universe as his disbelief affects everything in the Duniya.
When the believer dies he leaves the Duniya and Allah will appreciate him and give him more. He will depart from the miseries/difficulties of the Duniya to the vastness of the Akhirah.
For the disbeliever it is a mercy too as everyone says Alhamdulillah. With his death he cannot cause more trouble to the universe.

Imagine if there is no death for the human beings then the earth will be full of people maybe there is no space left. It is said even if the flies do not die they will cover the whole universe.
Ayah 27
Who will remain when everything will perish? The face of your lord. The owner of the Majesty and the owner of the honor
To be contd….
