Surgical Hand Antisepsis

Human hands are the most important portal and transmitter of infection. Surgical site infections greatly contribute to nosocomial infections. Health care�associated infections (HAIs) are a significant issue in any healthcare set up.

Most surgical professionals agree on the importance of good surgical hand-washing practices in infection prevention.

However, following proper hand hygiene practices is the most effective and least expensive way to prevent HAIs.

In this module we shall discuss efficacy and benefits of waterless surgical hand antiseptics, and the benefit of emollient to maintain skin integrity.
