ATHENAEUMLEARNINGCOMMUNITY
‘Learning Community’ is a group of people who share common values and beliefs, and are actively engaged in learning together and from each other. I have used this concept to develop my design as it reflects the learning attitude of the Y-Gen. As opposed to being a little sponge and absorbing information as a one way learning process, Y-Gen prefers to bounce off each other and learn through interaction and group work. Students of the Art and Design faculty often immerse in group tasks.
So what is group work? Group work is said to be a collection of private study. It is when people assemble as a group, make discussion and plan each individu-al’s responsibility before moving out into either smaller groups or into isolation to accomplish set tasks.
Thus, Athenaeum has been designed to facilitate:

DESIGN BRIEFThe brief of the project required students to design an Athenaeum in an existing site, building B Level 6 at Monash University, Caul-field Campus. It is to be a library to cater for students of the Art and Design Faculty.
Site Condition:The existing footprint to work with is about 35400mm X 18300mm, with an existing mezzanine level. The orientation of the building has optimal glazing facing North and South. Entrance to site is from Level 6, existing access to mezzanine is outside the boundary of site. Consideration on how to access mezzanine level from Level 6 should be a part of the design.
The quality of the designed space should/can reflect the following adjectives: comfortable, relaxed: formal and informal settings, interactive, inspiring, scholarly, energy, quiet, collaborative, creative, integrated, GenY.

A layout concept for a takeaway bubbletea (beverage) kiosk situated at the heart of the Springvale market precinct. This kiosk is designed to meet a small budget and to suit the ambients of its surrounding context.
The main challenge was to design for a fast-paced takeaway business with the constraint of a very tight space.
The kiosk had to be entirely utilised to accommodate the store operations. The counter has been recessed to create a sense of entry for customers who’s ordering from the overhead menu, and in the comfort of the kiosk.
The local council was also very strict about outdoor furnitures and needed to be stored away each night. Enough room have also been incorporated in front of the counter for all street furnitures to be packed away at night.
The brand image is to stay in-line with the budget and the youthful appeal of takeaway bubbletea beverages. Bright colours will be used to draw attention as the kiosk is quite isolated from the main boulevard. The use of strong graphics on the menu and a large format graphic print situated traverse to the front counter are the two main focal points.
