About the SYCWhen you ask a bowler what they love about the sport they’ll usually tell you a combination of competition, traveling, and meeting new friends.  The Storm Youth Championships (SYC) was created to celebrate all of the great things about youth bowling.

Because charitable giving has long been a focus at Storm, we’ve aligned the SYC with a worthy charity, Ballard vs. The Big C . $10 of every entry will go directly to BVBC to help continue to fight the war against cancer.

We choose to limit the field size so every player, parent, coach, sibling, and all other guests can fully participate in all the events listed in this player guide. Everyone is welcome!

Our goal is to give all the bowlers a welcoming environment to learn, build friendships, and have fun all weekend long.

The SYC offers 6 divisions based on gender and age. Use the USBC Date of Birth chart below to verify the proper division.

USBC Date of Birth Chart:8/1/06 or later = U128/1/03 - 07/31/06 = U158/1/98 - 07/31/03 = U20

In the event we do not have enough U12 entries for separate gender divisions, you will be contacted and offered the opportunity to compete in a mixed division. Bowlers in the U12 or U15 division may exercise the option to participate in the U15 or U20 division by notifying Leanne.Hulsenberg@stormbowling.com in writing. There will be no U17 divisions in this event.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

All competition at the Storm Youth Championships is scratch. Players will compete in four (4) rounds which consist of five (5) games. Each round will be played on a different SYC KEGEL oil pattern. Players will move pairs after each game. The top 3 players in each round will be presented Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. Tournament Champions in each division will be crowned based on their 20 game total pinfall.

Score SheetsPlayers are responsible for recording their scores on the scoresheets provided by the tournament staff. Please make sure your scoresheet is filled out completely including the +/- totals. If you have questions, please ask the tournament staff. When you finish your block, please bring the score sheet to the tournament office.

What You GetEACH $200 Entry Fee Includes:

Junior Gold QualifyingThe SYC supports Junior Gold. You can sign up to earn your spot to Detroit in the SYC Tournament Office prior to the start of each round. There is an additional fee associated with this participation and bowlers are responsible for reporting their scores.

Posting ScoresScores will be posted at the completion of each block on stormbowling.com/SYC under the "Results" section. In addition, scores will appear on the StormJr Facebook Page.

If you lose your scoresheet, please notify the SYC tournament staff immediately.

SYC Rules1. Event will be held on February 15-17, 2019 at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas,

Nevada.2. This event is open to USBC Youth Members. If you are not currently a USBC Youth

member, please contact Leanne or purchase a membership prior to the start of competition.

3. The event is certified by the USBC.4. There will be 6 divisions. U20B, U20G, U15B, U15G, U12B, U12G. If a division has less

than 6 players, it will be combined with another division and the player can choose to forfeit their spot to a player on the waiting list.

5. All competition is scratch.6. Entries close when the event is sold out at 210 players.7. Players will compete in four (4) rounds. Each round will consist of five (5) games.8. The top 3 players in each round will be presented Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.

Tournament Champions will be crowned based on their 20 game total pinfall. The top two bowlers in each division will be named to the 2019 Storm All-American Team. In the event of a tie for the overall champion in a division, co-champions will be awarded.

9. Entry fee is $200 per player10. Each entry includes a Storm Phaze II (available 12-16 lbs.). Ball will be picked up at

South Point Bowling Plaza during registration hours. No advanced shipping to or from the event will be permitted. No exchanges.

11. If a player needs to withdraw, a full refund is available up to 21 days prior to the event. If the player withdraws less than 21 days prior to the event, the bowling ball and SYC Swag Bag will be shipped to the player at the conclusion of the event. To withdraw, please contact Leanne Hulsenberg at leanne.hulsenberg@stormbowling.com.

12. The staff at the South Point Bowling Plaza will be the official score keepers.13. SYC Dress Code will be in effect during practice session and qualifying. See page 9.14. Conduct: Any conduct deemed inappropriate, including but not limited to, foul language,

obscene gestures, and/or abuse of equipment will be subject to disqualification as determined by the tournament committee. Entry fee will not be refunded.

15. Scholarships will be awarded on a 1:4 ratio and scholarship funds will be administered by S.M.A.R.T.

Have you ever wondered how a Storm Bowling Ball is made? Join our Technical Director in this fun demonstration of what goes into the process of making the best bowling balls in the world!

What are your tournament goals for the Storm Youth Championships? Hall of Fame Member, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard will lead this informative seminar about goal-setting, mental game toughness, and tournament strategies. You won't want to miss this!

Join our PWBA Tour Manager, Mike DeVaney for this informative discussion about how our team attacks the lanes out on tour and tips for players to remember as they bowl the SYC.

All 4 SYC KEGEL Patterns will be available for practice. Bowl with our Storm Pro Staff in this two-hour practice session.

Join us for a fun FREE SYC Cornhole Tournament! We will send a sign-up form out through email for you to register.Teams can be comprised of Two SYC Bowlers/One SYC Bowler + 1 Parent/2 Parents/etc.

If you missed the first session, join our Technical Director for this evening seminar to learn about how the best bowling balls in the world are made!

Our PWBA Tour Manager will wrap-up our practice session and answer any questions about the patterns or about professional bowling.

Dress CodeAll bowlers must wear suitable bowling tournament attire at PRACTICE sessions and all tournament rounds.

Practice sessions at the Storm Youth Championships are different. The Team Storm Pro Staff actually bowls practice session with the contestants so they can teach them about the oil patterns and offer advice in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere.

Awards CeremonyThe SYC recognizes players each round based on their performance on each special SYC Kegel Oil Pattern. The top 3 players in each division will earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals. The overall Champions and Storm All-American Team will be announced immediately following the last round of competition. It is not mandatory to stay for the Awards Ceremony, however, we hope you will join us to celebrate our champions.

Name shirts are preferred, but not requiredDress slacks or pants are required for malesFemales may wear skirts, skorts, dress shorts, or dress slacks. The Tournament Bowling Plaza is located inside the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa. This beautiful facility has hosted several PBA & PWBA events. The South Point Bowling Plaza, a spacious 90,000-square-foot facility, features 60 lanes with two parallel rows of 30 lanes, a 360-seat viewing area and spacious meeting rooms for our educational seminars with our special guests.

The South Point Bowling Pro Shop is excited to welcome SYC Bowlers to Las Vegas! They will be offering a tournament special of $50 for drilling including grips and slugs. Pick up your new Phaze II during Registration hours and head to the pro shop to get it drilled for the event.

The top two bowlers in each division at the Las Vegas event will be named to the 2019 Storm All-American Team. After the tournament is complete, the Storm All-American Team is featured in a special article in the Bowlers Journal.
