1 ANNEX A SYF 2018 EVENTS LISTING SYF 2018 Celebrations in the City Date and Time Event Venue 30 June 3.00 pm – 4.00 pm (Matinee) 7.00 pm – 8.00 pm (Evening show) Festival Concert The centrepiece event of the SYF 2018 Celebrations, the Festival Concert will feature a dazzling array of cross-disciplinary performances put together by close to 350 students in a spectacular showcase of youth artistic talents and passion. Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education, will be Guest-of-Honour for the evening show. Highlights include: Sandscapes – The opening act of the concert, this performance will feature the enchanting sound of handbells with sand animation to provide audiences with a feast for both the eyes and the ears. Dance Tapestry – a collaborative performance between the Chinese, Malay, Indian and Modern Dance CCAs of Yio Chu Kang Secondary and multimedia artists from Nanyang Girls’ High School, culminating in a mesmerising display of colours and movement. STOMP Percussion Warriors with Hip Hop Dances – an energizing performance featuring percussion players from Tanglin Secondary School and Metta School “pitted against” the hip hop dancers of Juying Secondary School. Finale – Terry Ng Tian Yu, the winner of this year’s Festival Songwriting Contest will perform this year’s Festival Song, “Stage”, with his friend, Goh Jing Wen, and singers from Temasek Secondary School’s Acapella Group. SYF 2018 Celebrations in the City Date and Time Event Venue

Festival Concert

Indoor Music Showcase Indulge in a musical showcase featuring a variety of choral works inspired by Asia and numbers from musicals. Be treated to a special guest appearance by a Sapelele Ensemble from Malaysia, and delight in the music of Angklung and Kulintang ensembles. There will also be pop band performances from students mentored by local band, 53A.

Outdoor Music & Dance Showcase Be amazed by a music and dance extravaganza featuring an array of dance groups and music ensembles including Malay Dance, Chinese Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. Highlights include an improvisatory dance performance by students from Boon Lay Secondary School and St. Andrew’s Autism School, as well as a collaborative performance by Anglo-Chinese School (Barker)’s Chinese Orchestra and St. Margaret’s Secondary School’s Rhythmic Gymnastics team.

Spoken Word (A Poetry Recitation) Go on a journey with students from Xinmin Secondary School, Deyi Secondary School and Tampines Junior College as they explore the theme of ‘Identity’ through original poems about family, friendship, history and even time travel.

Dramatised Reading In this performance, students from Bukit View Secondary School and Westwood Secondary School will bring to life co-devised scripts through dramatised reading. The showcase will culminate in a sharing by students on their learning

Site-Inspired Multi-Modal Performances Featuring elements of improvisation and live interaction, this series of performances will showcase the creative collaboration of students across various art forms. Let our students take you on a journey as they explore the spatial possibilities that the Padang Atrium offers, and integrate themes and ideas drawn from the artworks within the National Gallery Singapore.

Evolution! Evolution! is a youth talent quest where students from primary and secondary levels will compete in four categories - Vocals, Pop Band, Dance & Beatbox. Participants had the rare opportunity to be mentored by industry professionals such as Rai, Peter and Charles Stitch Wong. The Guest-of-Honour will be Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar, Deputy Chairperson, GPC for Education.

Youth Station Live in Concert Be inspired as the Top 16 finalists of the SYF 2018 Song Writing Contest bring you a special performance of their original songs at this live showcase. Held from 25 October 2017 to 1 Feb 2018, the contest garnered a total of 89 entries by students from primary to junior college levels. Songwriters & performers were also provided with ‘real-world’ learning experiences through mentorship by music industry professionals.

SYF 2018 Celebrations @ Bukit Panjang Plaza Be blown away by a Dance Extravaganza that celebrates youth through multi-genre dance performances. For those interested to try their hands at art-making, they can also take part in Art Labs led by our students. Ms Foo Mee Har, Member of GPC for Education, will be Guest-of-Honour on 1 July.

SYF 2018 Art Exhibition Date and Time Event Venue

3 July (Opening) 2.00pm 4 July – 3 August 10.00am – 10.00pm

Over 400 artworks by about 1400 student artists will be featured at the SYF 2018 Art Exhibition. This year, students created artworks to inspire positive changes in the community, in response to the theme ‘Artist and Citizenship’. The Art Exhibition will be officially opened by Ms Indranee Rajah, Second Minister for Education, on 3 July at the National Gallery Singapore. From 4 July to 3 August, schools and members of the public can visit the exhibition for free and participate in the fringe activities led by student artists. The full range of artworks can also be viewed online through the SYF Art Exhibition Online Gallery (www.singaporeyouthfestival.sg) from 3 July.
