O you who wraps himself,Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little –Half of it - or subtract from it a littleOr add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation(73: 1-4)

C haracteristics of the

They arise from [their] beds; they supplicate their Lord in fear and aspiration, and from

what We have provided them, they

spend. (32:16)

They used to sleep but little of the night,And in the hours before dawn they

would ask forgiveness. (51: 17 – 18)

Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of

the night, prostrating & standing, fearing the

Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like

one who does not]? Say, “Are those who know equal to those who do not know?”

Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding. (39:9)

صالة » الفريضة بعد الصEالة وأفضل«الليل

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said:

“The best of prayer after the obligatory (five) prayers is the night

prayer.” (Muslim)

The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said:

“Hold fast to Qiyam al-Lail, for it is the practice of the righteous before you, and indeed Qiyam

al-Lail is a means of nearness to Allah, a means of prevention from sin, an expiation for bad deeds, and a barrier for the

body against disease.”

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: Jibreel came to me and said to me,

“… know that the honor of the believer is

night prayer and his pride is to not be in

need of people.”

Abu Hurairah said:My dearest friend (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) advised

me (to do) three things:

“To sleep after praying Witr, to fast three days

each month, and to pray two rak'ahs of Fajr.”

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said:

If anyone prays at night reciting regularly ten verses, he will not be recorded among the negligent; if

anyone prays at night and recites a hundred verses, he will be recorded among those who are obedient to Allah; and if anyone prays at night

reciting one thousand verses, he will be recorded among those who receive

huge rewards.

غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه

Whoever performs Salah at night in the month of Ramadan with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah – all his past sins will be forgiven

Al-Haafiz Ibn Rajab said:

“Know that the believer in Ramadan has two challenges to struggle with: Struggle in during

the day with fasting, and the other is during the night with prayer, whoever combined these two

struggles he will be rewarded with the best of reward.”

A man asked the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) about prayers at night,

and he said:

“Two by two, then if one of you fears that dawn will come, let him pray

witr with one.”(An-Nisai)

The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said:

“Whoever stands with the imam until he

finishes, it is equivalent to spending the whole

night in prayer.”

Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said,

“If anyone of you enters a mosque, he should

pray two rak’at before sitting.”

Women in the Masjid

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: There is nothing wrong with women

attending taraaweeh prayers if there is no danger of fitnah, subject to the condition that they go out looking

decent and not wearing adornments, make-up or perfume.

Talking Loudly in the Masjid

Narrated Al-Sa'ib bin Yazid:

I was standing in the mosque and somebody threw a gravel at me. I looked and found that he

was `Umar bin Al-Khattab. He said to me, “Fetch those two men to me.” When I did, he

said to them, “Who are you? (Or) where do you come from?” They replied, “We are from Ta'if.” `Umar said, “Were you from this city (Medina) I

would have punished you for raising your voices in the mosque of Allah's Messenger.”

The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said:

“To spit in the Masjid is a sin, and burying it

is its atonement.”

It includes everything that is a source of pain and disgust:• Leaving tissues• Not placing shoes properly• Sitting/standing in the way• Car parking • Leaving washrooms dirty

Anas was asked about the garlic; he stated that the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) had said:

He who eats of this plant (garlic) should not

approach us and pray along with us.

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: “Straighten your rows as the straightening of

rows is essential for a perfect and correct prayer.”

“Straighten your rows, or Allah would create dissension amongst you.”

Anas said, "Everyone of us used to put his shoulder with the shoulder of his companion and his foot with the foot of his companion."

It was narrated from Anas that the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said:

“Complete the first row, then the one behind it, and if any row is

to be left incomplete let it be the last row.”

The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: “The Imam is appointed to be followed, so

when he says the takbir, say the takbir, and when he recites, be silent.”

“Isn't he who raises his head before the Imam afraid that Allah may transform his head into that of a donkey or his figure (face) into that of a donkey?”

It was narrated from Abu Qatadah that:

The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) used to pray carrying Umamah. When he prostrated he put her down and when he stood up he

picked her up again.
