TAG Tuesday Afternoon Group May 16 The 2016-2017 season of TAG concludes on May 16 with a fascinating and entertaining program about the Gibbs-Preyer Sanctuary organ. Sam Vasbinder will share the history of the organ and Gibbs Music Intern Mario Buchanan will play some pieces selected to highlight the organ’s features and capabilities. As always, you are sure to enjoy the wonderful meal, program, and fellowship. You will want to plan to gather in Westminster Hall at 11:30 for a time of fellowship and greeting friends, followed by a meditation at 11:45, lunch at noon. The program will begin at approximately 12:45 pm. Cost is only $7.00. At the Spring Picnic! We could use a few helpers throughout the day at the Camp Wakonda Spring Picnic on Saturday, May 13. We need a few folks to help serve lunch, show around new guests if you’re familiar with camp, and a few youth to help young kids with the simple crafts we’ll have there that day. REFLECTIONS & INSTRUCTIONS ON COMMUNION

Communion is a time for quiet celebration. Please refrain from talking with neighbors as others are in thankful prayer.

Holy communion is a gift from God to all of God’s people. It does not belong to one particular church or denomination. At Christ Presbyterian Church everyone who confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is encouraged to come to the table.

Appropriate responses to receiving both bread and cup include: “Thanks be to God” “Amen” “Glory be to God”

Please silence all electronic devices prior to the service.

*At these moments, we invite you to stand in body or spirit.

Large print copies of the hymns and orders of worship

are available in the Narthex or from an usher.

Welcome to Christ Presbyterian ChurchWelcome to Christ Presbyterian ChurchWelcome to Christ Presbyterian ChurchWelcome to Christ Presbyterian Church

We’re so glad that you’re here. We hope that your worship with us today nourishes your spirit and that you will come back to worship with us again. Please be sure to sign the guest pad located at the end of

your pew so that we can follow up on your visit with us.

For our visitors with children: our Nursery (up to age 3) is open and available to you in our lower level where our caring volunteers are ready to watch over your child. You can worship with peace of mind as

you will be given a pager so that you can be contacted immediately should you be needed.

Worship Activity Bags and activity sheets are located in the front of the Sanctuary for children to use. An usher is able to help direct you if you need assistance.

All children are welcome to come forward for our Children’s Message. As today is a Communion Sunday, following the message, children ages 3-5

are invited to follow our teachers out for Preschool Kids’ Church and can be picked up in the lower level following service.

Children kindergarten and older will remain in service today to participate in Communion.

Thank you for worshiping with us today.

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Welcome & Worship Notes

Call to Worship

Leader: Sisters and brothers,

let us gather together Acts 2:42-47

with glad and generous hearts.

People: For many signs and wonders are being done among us.

Leader: Let us break bread together

and share our lives in common.

People: Let us give what we can to all who have needs

so that all people,

no matter who they are,

may regard us with good will.

Leader: Let us devote ourselves to our prayers and to the gospel.

People: For in this way

God will add to our numbers every day.

Organ Meditation

*Hymn in Procession No. 244 “This Joyful Eastertide”

May 7, 2017 Ten-Thirty O’Clock

*Prayer of Adoration (unison)

Good Shepherd, John 10:1-10

you call us by name,

and we know your voice.

Open the gate for us,

that we may come and go freely,

have life,

and have it abundantly.

Amen.

Call to Confession

Friends,

in as much as God is our shepherd, Psalm 23:1, 3

let us not fear,

but confess our sin that God may restore our souls.

Prayer of Confession (unison)

Holy One,

we confess to you and to one another 1 Peter 2:19-25

that we have not always followed Christ’s example.

When we have been abused,

we have been abusive in return.

We have gone astray.

Lead us back into your fold

and guard our souls in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

(Silence is observed for personal reflection.)

(please stand in body or spirit) *Declaration of Forgiveness

Friends,

the promise of our faith is that 1 Peter 2:19-25

if we entrust ourselves to the One who judges justly,

we need not feel threatened,

for we will be returned to righteousness.

We have been brought back into the safety of God’s fold,

thanks be to God!

Camp Wakonda says THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fund for rebuilding the camp house! It has taken all of us giving what we could to make this possible! This was a long overdue project that will take Wakonda many years into the future. The work on this house says we value the people who are willing to nurture and build our camp in so many ways. It will help us as we look for a new director. It also is a statement of support from all who care about Wakonda. The financial backing is completed and so is the house. The only remaining task is to paint the outside and have an Open House! You are invited to come down to Camp Wakonda on Saturday, May 13, for the Spring Picnic! Lunch will be served from 12:30-2:30pm. At 12noon, we will join together in worship to consecrate the various rooms in the home and praying that God’s peace surround those who will live there. Bring friends, enjoy the grounds, and tour the house. Some of this summer’s staff will be there and there will be ac0vi0es for the children! It is a great way to bring someone new to camp. Everyone is invited! Thank you!

*Hymn No. 504 “We Come as Guests Invited” *The Great Thanksgiving

Leader: Christ is risen!

People: Christ is risen indeed.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up to God.

Leader: Let us give thanks to God.

People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Leader: Glorious God, we give you thanks and praise, for on this day creation sings, Christ is risen from the dead! He has burst forth from the tomb to break the tangles of despair and death. Love is come again. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with the eternal chorus of rejoicing who forever sing:

*Sanctus (sung by all) Thomas Pavlechko Permission granted: © St. James Music Press 2008

Leader: All-embracing God, we give thanks for Jesus, the risen Lord of life, who rose victorious from the grave and made the whole creation new. He broke bread with sinners, fed the hungry, and healed the oppressed, then he poured out his life in death that we might live in love.

People: Christ is risen from the dead. Love is come again.

Leader: We thank you that on the night before he died for us our Lord Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take eat: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink this all of you: This is my blood poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.

People: Christ is risen from the dead. Love is come again.

Leader: Recalling his life, death, and glorious resurrection, we offer you these gifts of bread and cup, and our lives in thanks and praise. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be for us the body and blood of our Savior Jesus Christ.

People: Breathe your Spirit upon the whole earth, that we may proclaim good news to all the world and rise together as children of your new creation.

Leader: Then bring us to that new heaven here on earth, O God, where death and pain are no more and you dwell with us forever.

People: Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you eternally in songs of pure unbounded praise. Amen.

Preparing for Next Week

Scripture Readings for May 14, 2017 Acts 7:55-60; Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16; 1 Peter 2:2-10; John 14:1-14 Consider: Is the “dwelling place” (John 14:1-14) of which Jesus speaks a place for us after we die, or does it include our life in the present? What does Jesus mean when he says that his disciples “will do greater works”? What does it mean to pray “in Jesus’ name”?
