The higher the fill power the higher the quality. 800 fill power goose down is used for RS TAICHI's high performance down products. Comparing with same weight of 550 fill power goose down, 800 fill power is 30% warmer.

Down 90%, Feather 10% mixing rate is known as high quality down but we use Down 95%, Feather 5% which is the highest quality down mixing rate.

550 fill power down is known as high quality down, but 800 fill power down is used in our products instead. If we compare same weight of 550 fill power and 800 fill power goose, 800 fill power is 30% warmer. Down 90% : Feather 10% mixing rate is known as high quality down but we use Down 95% : Feather 5% which is the highest quality down mixing rate.

Why is Down warm?

Fill power is a measure of the loft or "fluffiness" of a down product that is loosely related to the insulating value of the down. The higher the fill power, the more insulating air pockets the down has and the better insulating ability.

"Down" traps air and provide excellent thermal insulationAs explained above, fluffy down feathers are found in chest area of water birds. Large down clusters are 3-4cm. Water birds has these down feathers to gain buoyancy and prevent body temperature from getting low. Air is a substance that is most difficult to change temperature. That is why product with down insulation is very warm by it's heat insulation and warmth retaining effect. Therefore, higher mixing rate of down and feather is better and larger down clusters are better. Numerical value to measure this rate is "Fill Power".

Vaned Feather has rachis in the center and barbs on both sides and covers the exterior of the body. Rachis makes the feather heavier and traps less air than down.

Down is the layer of fine feathers found underneath the outer feathers of adult ducks, geese, and other water birds.

Down clusters are round and spherical. This natural spherical shape is what gives the down product the warmth by making a layer of air.
