ST COLUMBA’S CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Te Kura O Hato Karama He mihi mahana kia koutou – A warm greeting to you all! This has been an exciting and eventful week culminating in a very special School Mass this morning and a day full of activities to honour St Joseph. As the whole of the church year of 2021 is dedicated to St Joseph, this is very relevant for us. Learning activities, with a focus on tuakana–teina (older students supporting younger students) has been a highlight of today. Thank you to all parents and staff who have met this week to talk together about our children and their learning. These meetings are invaluable to us so that we grow in our knowledge of your children and each of their needs. I’d like to thank Bruce McLachlan (an ex-pupil, Dad and artist) for being our guest speaker at our Lads and Dads breakfast this morning. I would also like to thank Bidfoods who have sponsored our breakfast. Those who were there would all agree, it was great. A number of staff were at school from 6am this morning to set up and cook for us. We all appreciate your time and such an early start, especially after a late night of meeting parents at Learning Discussions. Gareth Duncan Principal Our End of Day Safety Process At a recent board meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed student safety after school hours. The board has now ratified a process where any students who remain at school after 3.15pm will be required to go to Kids Club, which is based in the school hall. Parents will be billed accordingly. This process will officially begin in Term 2 2021. Please make the appropriate arrangements for the collection and care of your children from 2.45pm onwards as this is when the school day ends. It is not safe for children to remain in the grounds or at the church waiting to be collected after school hours. Contact details for SCCS Kids Club are - Deb Honey - Centre Manager - 021 586633
