Teaching English to the Young Learner (TEYL)Admission Requirements

Students may take the Teaching English to the Young Learner (TEYL) certificate program as a full-time program or while they are enrolled in the Professional TEFL Certificate and/or the Special Studies certificate. This program is excellent for students who are interested in attaining additional competencies in teaching English as a foreign language to young learners.

What this 12-unit program includes:The required courses are:

n TEYL Focus on the Classroom (3 units)n TEYL Focus on the Learner (3 units)n TEYL Focus on the Teacher (3 units)n 3 units of electives

Elective options include:

n Games for the EFL Classroom (1 unit)n Music in the EFL Classroom (1 unit)n Teaching Language through Art (1 unit)n Visual Media in the EFL Classroom (1 unit)

Additional requirements:· A copy of transcripts in English for the two most recent years of academic studies.· A one-page statement explaining your reasons for choosing UC San Diego for your study abroad experience in TEYL.
