Technology-enabled Learning and Teaching

1. Purpose

Technology-enabled learning and teaching is a key principles of the SIBT experience. The purpose of this document is to provide a policy framework for decision making around learning technology use at SIBT, a roadmap for enhancing and transforming learning and procedures for implementing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) 2. Application

This Policy applies to all programs offered by or on behalf of SIBT; academic leaders and managers of learning and teaching, all teaching staff, including sessional teachers, all support staff and all students.

The Policy also provides information for external stakeholders, such as professional accrediting bodies. The staff and/or students to whom the policy applies. 3. SIBT Learning and Teaching Framework

The unique SIBT curriculum includes signature elements of unit design. These elements are highlighted in the outer boxes of the following graphic.

•Signature elements:

•Scaffolded formative & summative tasks

•Revision & extension activities in all units

•Capturing & tracking progress

•Signature elements:

•SIBT Capabilities designed in units

•WIL in all units, eg case studies from business, guests or capstone projects

•Signature elements:

•Active use of tablets in learning

•A blend of on-campus and online experiences

•Signature elements:

•Class sizes of no more than 25 for tutorials and 50 for lectures

4. Policy Statement

4.1 Technology will be a part of all SIBT learning and teaching to:

encourage students to take a more active role in their own learning, using their own devices;

support students to use mobile devices for personalised and collaborative learning;

connect students with teaching staff and their peers;

extend the reach of education beyond the classroom to real world, authentic contexts.

Within this context:

4.1.1 technology-enhanced learning and teaching will be embedded into every unit in SIBT programs;

4.1.2 every unit guide will have a section to list each of the technologies used, with a brief description of their purposes;

4.1.3 a list of preferred apps will be maintained for use in learning and teaching.

4.2 SIBT will provide an enabling BYOD environment, ensuring that:

students have access to mobile devices, along with mobile-enabled services and learning materials;

key teaching staff will be provided with a tablet, mentors and professional development on technology-enhanced learning and SIBT preferred apps;

a suite of apps is available for use on mobile devices (cloud) and digital literacy;

a ‘Mobile Device Management’ system pushes out apps to devices on campus; and

technical support is available to maximise the benefit from technology-enhanced learning, including network accessibility and safety, security and privacy.

4.3 SIBT will support access to personal mobile devices (phones, computers and tablets)

that use compatible operating systems and comply with the security standards below:

Smartphones, including: o iPhone running iOS 9 and above

Tablets, including: o iPads running iOS 9 and above

4.4 SIBT may commence applicable disciplinary procedures if a person to whom this policy

applies breaches this policy (or any of its related procedures).
