On the last 6th May, our class of Plant Physiology went for a fieldtrip at Teluk Senangin beach near Lumut, Perak. We camped there for only 3 days and 2 nights. Our transportation was two buses and we arrived Teluk Senangin around 7 pm.

As we arrived, the Commando which was our kind of tour guide or guardian there, gave us a little briefing about that place and the ‘dos and donts’. After that, all of us started to set up our camp not so far away from the beaches.

We did not managed to do any activities at the first night except had our dinner there as suddenly the place was out of electricity.

On the next day, we started our activities and each kind of activity was divided fairly to each group. My group was doing these activities : Light intensity, wind speed

and temperature Sea water sampling (microbes,

planktons) Tree Sampling Jungle Trekking

All of the activities were amazing and helped us a lots in studying Plant Physiology. During the first activity, measuring the light intensity, wind speed and temperature, we used the lab’s apparatus/instrumen to do the activity. We’d learned on how to use those instrument got the exact data which we had recorded in the notebook.

Then, we moved to the next activity which was done in the sea water (at the sea side only). We have to use a few apparatus to get the sea water sample at we have done if twice, first at the sea side and second one was 2 metre distance from the first point. The results were pretty amazing as we had found many types of microbes and microorganisms from the sea water.

We also had recorded the video on the movement of one microbes and it did Phagocytosis under the microscope! We were all so excited to watch it live at that day. There was a few photos on the activity.

The next activity was tree sampling and we used quadrat (10x10m) method to observe what kind of trees were there in the area. We have done 3 tree sampling which was 2 near the campsite and another 1 during the jungle trekking activities. Jungle trekking was happened quite quick as the rain was falling as soon as we started our jungle trekking activities. We only managed to do tree sampling once during the activity.

After all the activities had done, we got some rest and also had the opportunity to enjoyed the sea water for few hours. The fieldtrip was very enjoyable because we managed to learn and enjoy at the same time yet we were very tired the whole day. Thanks to Dr. Hasimah for this awesome fieldtrip!

On the last night, all groups were doing their presentation about the whole activities during the fieldtrip. Every groups shared their experienced to another. Before we go back to campus, we visited The Saloma’s Vineyard near Sitiawan, Perak where we can see the way they grow grapes. We returned safely to the campus after that. THANK YOU.
