6.1 Battery replacement
The probe head contains arugged and stable humiditysensor. When used in air conditioningapplications, we recommend ayearly service and for use inharsh environments (e.g.swimming pool atmospheres, strong velocities, salty air) werecommend a service every 3months with our control andcalibration set 0554.0660.
Dirty sensors can be cleanedwith alcohol (Isopropanol) ordistilled water.Unscrew the protective cap.Dip the sensor in the alcohol, rinse with distilled water andleave to dry in the air.Replace the protective cap.
Should the sensors be faulty, please contact our servicedepartment.
13
Never touch the sensor.Measurements should only
be effected when the protective cover is attached.
Should "Bat" appear in thedisplay, the battery has aremaining life of 5 hours.Should the battery voltage betoo low, the instrumentswitches off automatically.
Open battery compartment.
Remove the old battery andinsert the new battery, type 9V PP3 (IEC 6 F 22) (observe
polarization).

7. Basics of measurement7.1 Absolute humidity/relative humidity
testo6. Care and maintenance
6.3 Measuring instrument
Air humidity plays a decisiveroll in many areas of everydaylife. Chemical reactions (suchas oxidation processes), drying processes, meteorological changes (rain, snow etc.) and last but notleast the comfort of humanbeings is heavily dependanton the humidity content of theair.Humidity is the physical amount of water moleculespresent in the air.
Technically, we differentiatebetween absolute and relativehumidity.Absolute humidity is thewater content of the air inweight, also known as watervapour density. The unit ofmeasurement is g/m3. Aswarm air is able to absorbmore water than cold air, theabsolute humidity content isdependant on temperature.

8.2 Probe
Meas. rangeProbe...................................0 to 100 %RH
(- 20 to+ 70 °C/0 to +160°F)
As a rule, air is not enrichedwith a 100 % water vapourcontent. The relationshipbetween the available airhumidity and the maximum airhumidity is known as relativehumidity (%RH).
As with saturation humidity, relative humidity also depends ontemperature. A humidity measuring instrument must, therefore, measure 2 values:- air humidity and- temperature.
7.2 Dew point
If air, with a certain value ofwater, is cooled, the watervapour condenses to waterwhen the dew- pointtemperature is reached. Why?
As can be seen from the diagramme (p. 15), cold airdoes not absorb as muchwater as warm air. If warm air, with e.g. 60 % RH, is cooled, you will eventually reach thetemperature at which therelative air humidity is 100 %RH. This is the dew point.
