Eagle Ranch is based on a verse in Isaiah, “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31).

As I look back over the twenty-five years of Eagle Ranch’s existence, the idea of waiting on God’s timing has taken

on special significance. Although I struggle to have patience, in retro-spect I can clearly see God’s fingerprints all over our history and have come to appreciate how the Ranch has benefited from times of waiting.

However difficult it is to experience at the time, it is clear that some-thing important happens when we wait. A new strength that we can’t acquire or leverage on our own is imparted to us as we embrace “the wait.” God’s ways are infinitely richer, deeper and more profound than what we can imagine. I’ve come to watch expectantly for the results of His timing.

Work Before PlayHaving twenty-five acres of fields doesn’t just mean a lot of mowing. For the children of Eagle Ranch, it also means a lot of fun. The athletic fields and play areas enable boys and girls to enjoy a childhood that threat-

ened to slip away as difficulties entered their lives. A dedicated team of vol-unteers ensures our fields are kept in tip-top shape. Many have volunteered their time for years to make sure the fields are always ready for action.

Warm WelcomeCareful planning, teamwork, time and effort are all involved in welcoming a new girl or boy to Eagle Ranch. These elements are also essential in creating one of the first things a child receives when arriving – a hand-made quilt.

Each year, more than 50 members of the Hall County Quilt Guild work to create quilts for the children of Eagle Ranch. The designs range from elegant, intricate patterns to whimsical designs. The children get to choose which quilt best suits their personalities and keep the quilt after they graduate from the Ranch.

Numerous hands are involved in creating and finishing a quilt. One quilt may involve an initial quilter who stitches the quilt design followed by

several others who cut batting, make backing, add borders, bind the edges and quilt the pieces together on a long-arm quilt machine. Each quilt also has a label about the quilter who created the initial design.

While many Guild members work individually on their quilts, a work day is scheduled one day each month to get the group together. “Every-body pitches in,” said Betty Heathman, a long-arm quilter for the Guild.

“Many of our quilters will pray over the quilt they designed before we bring it to the Ranch,” said Carol Johnson, a member of the Guild.And just like the children who come to the Ranch, no two quilts are ever alike.

From church and neighborhood groups that bring delicious meals and needed items for our children and homes, to healthcare providers who keep our staff in tip-top condition, we are grateful. Don Painter, an Eagle Ranch volunteer,

maintains and repairs all of the Ranch’s small engine

equipment – from weed-eaters to log splitters. This

saves the Ranch thousands of dollars annually, and his

quick turnaround saves hundreds of hours that
