Burke DISTRICT 44 Caldwell Dear Friends, With Thanksgiving approaching, it is important to stop and reflect on the many blessings that God has given to us and to give thanks for the opportunity to live in such a great country. Remembering great American leaders draws my mind to President Washington’s insightful words contained in his National Thanksgiving Proclamation: “It is in an especial manner our duty as a people…to acknowledge our many and great obligations to Almighty God, and to implore Him to continue and confirm the blessings we experienced…to diffuse and establish habits of sobriety, order, and morality and piety,…to impart all the blessings we possess or ask for ourselves to the whole family of mankind.” President Washington was correct when he proclaimed a day for all people to give God thanks for his blessings. Washington also wanted us to “diffuse”, or “spread,” habits of order and morality. He believed that we are to share with others the blessings we receive. As I look back on my life thus far, I can see where God’s hand has guided my paths. I have had the opportunity to attend West Point and serve my country, to work with my father in our family law firm, to marry my Burke County sweetheart, and to raise three wonderful girls. I count each life experience as a great blessing, and cherish the family that God has given me. Continued on Page 2 CONTACT INFORMATION: Senator Warren T. Dear Friends,

With Thanksgiving approaching, it is important to stop and

reflect on the many blessings that God has given to us and to give

thanks for the opportunity to live in such a great country.

Remembering great American leaders draws my mind to President

Washington’s insightful words contained in his National

Thanksgiving Proclamation:

“It is in an especial manner our duty as a people…to

acknowledge our many and great obligations to Almighty God, and

to implore Him to continue and confirm the blessings we

experienced…to diffuse and establish habits of sobriety, order, and

morality and piety,…to impart all the blessings we possess or ask for

ourselves to the whole family of mankind.”

President Washington was correct when he proclaimed a day

for all people to give God thanks for his blessings. Washington also

wanted us to “diffuse”, or “spread,” habits of order and morality. He

believed that we are to share with others the blessings we receive.

As I look back on my life thus far, I can see where God’s

hand has guided my paths. I have had the opportunity to attend West

Point and serve my country, to work with my father in our family

law firm, to marry my Burke County sweetheart, and to raise three

wonderful girls. I count each life experience as a great blessing, and

cherish the family that God has given me.

THANKFUL FOR LIFE

Science has long debated the origins of human life. Some scientists point to nature as an example of the evolution of our planet, while other scientists point to nature as obvious proof of a divine Being, a supreme Creator. One evolutionist who spent years protesting the idea of a Creator was Jean-Paul Sartre. But just before Sartre died, he confided in a friend about his true feelings regarding the matter. He stated: "I do not feel that I am the product of chance, a speck of dust in the universe, but someone who was expected, prepared, prefigured. In short, a being whom only a Creator could put here; and this idea of a creating hand refers to God." Sartre realized that life was a gift from God, and that God had created the world and had breathed life into man. This year, I have also been blessed with the opportunity to

serve the great people of Burke and Caldwell Counties. North

Carolina must continue to be a family friendly, church friendly, and

business friendly state. As your voice in the North Carolina Senate, I

am committed to reducing the size and scope of government

lowering the tax burden, and advocating for pro-life and pro-family

policies. These values are the cornerstone of our society, and the

foundation upon which the American experiment was built.

Blessings to you and your family during this Thanksgiving

season.

1. Your VIN is 0000000000000001. 2. When you go to the car wash more paint than dirt comes off.

3. While waiting at stop light, people run up asking if anyone was hurt.

4. Instead of an airbag, there's a whoopie cushion taped to your steering wheel.

5. It hasn't been the same since Henry Ford borrowed it.

6. Your tax adviser has suggested you could save money by purchasing your own tow truck.

HOW TO KNOW IT’S TIME TO BUY A NEW CAR (OR BEING THANKFUL IT’S PAID FOR)

The First American Thanksgiving?

On Dec. 4, 1619, 38 English settlers arrived at Berkeley Hundred, a large tract

of land on the north bank of the James River, in an area then known as Charles

Cittie, about 20 miles upstream from Jamestown. The group’s charter required that the day of arrival be observed yearly

as a “day of thanksgiving” to God. On that first day, Cpt. John Woodlief held the service of thanksgiving. “We ordaine that

the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned for plantacon in the land of

Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually kept holy as a day of thanksgiving to

Almight God.”

In Plymouth

In 1623, after switching to privatized

farming from communal farming, Plymouth had a great fall harvest:

“And afterwards the Lord sent them such seasonable showers, with interchange of

fair warm weather as, through His blessing, caused a fruitful and liberal

harvest….For which mercy,…they also set apart a day of thanksgiving...By this time harvest was come, and instead of famine

now God gave them plenty…for which they blessed God…” --William Bradford,

Of Plymouth Plantation
