The World Chinese Economic Summit (WCES) is apremier international event which started off as theWorld Chinese Economic Forum (WCEF) 8 years ago.It is a flagship event created by The Asian Strategy &Leadership Institute (ASLI) to enhance connectivityand business linkages between China and SoutheastAsia and China and Europe in line with the Chineseleadership’s Belt and Road initiatives. The WCES alsopromotes global and regional dialogue on theemergence and role of China as the world’s secondlargest economy. It also brings together the globalChinese Diaspora and promotes entrepreneurshipand innovation through business networking andsharing of knowledge and best practices.

ABOUT WCES

During the 6th WCES held in Chongqing, China, theVice President of China, H.E. Li Yuanchao delivered theKeynote Address and highlighted the crucial role ofthe Chinese Diaspora as a bridge connecting countries.He noted that 60% of investments into China comesfrom the global Chinese Diaspora and hoped thatoverseas Chinese entrepreneurs would realize andseize the opportunity to invest and trade with Chinaand other countries and contribute to world economicrecovery.

For over 2000 years, the Silk Road hadconnected China to Southeast Asia andChina with the West. China’s new Beltand Road initiatives will reignite thesehistoric links. The World ChineseEconomic Summit is well placed to be apremier event to discuss theactualization and the business potentialof the Belt and Road initiative.
