We packed 'em in for the Inner Wheel Spaghetti Feed!Posted by Fred Rowe on Mar 04, 2013

As usual, our annual Spaghetti Feed with our Fair Oaks Inner Wheel affiliate was packed and energetic. IW President Janet McWilliams described the great work IW does locally and internationally, and the members lightened our wallets bidding on an assortment of items in a fun raffle.

Mentor  ProgramAlice Rowe

Do  you  know  that  our  Rotary  Club  of  Fair  Oaks  has  a  Mentoring  Program  for  new  members?  Well,  it's  new  and  still  being  tweaked  to  make  it  better  and  more  helpful  for  new  members,  but  here's  the  idea.  When  a  new  member  joins  our  club,  one  of  our  more  seasoned  members  is  asked  to  help  with  understanding  what  it  means  to  be  a  Rotarian,  what  is  going  on  during  the  meetings  (like,  what  IS  this  Little  Genius  business!),  and  introducing  them  to  the  other  members  in  the  club.

The  idea  is  that  we  want  our  new  members  to  become  connected  to  the  rest  of  us  and  to  feel  like  they  are  a  part  of  our  Rotary  family.  Their  new  member  “tasks”  (like  being  a  greeter,  bartender,  etc.)  help  in  the  same  way....at  least  we  hope  so!!

So  far,  the  following  wonderful  members  have  taken  on  this  role:  Cliff  Straehley  (Don  Hick's  mentor),  Maggie  Hoy  (Trish  Barnes),  Warren  McWilliams  (Ron  Adams),  Jim  Cralle  (Dave  Barr),  Charley  Blatchford  (Todd  Gaston),  Fred  Vaske  (Ben  Bolton),  Jeanne  Maloney  (Nita  Castro),  Bob  Vogel  (Dave  Claugus),  Bob  Walters  (Tyler  Happe)  and  Bruce  Hagel  (Natasha  Owen).

Once  the  new  member  gets  the  New  Member  Red  Ribbon  off  their  name  badge....the  mentor  “job”  is  complete!  Would  any  of  the  rest  of  you  be  willing  to  be  a  Mentor  to  a  new  member?  It's  fun  and  worthwhile.....please  let  me  know  if  you  do!!  Thanks,  Alice

P.S.  If  you  want  to  hear  more  about  mentoring,  or  any  aspect  of  the  Membership  program,  please  attend  the  Membership  Forum  being  held  in  the  clubhouse  next  Monday,  March  11th,  at  5:45.  Remember,  everyone  in  the  club  is  a  member  of  the  Membership  Committee....so  please  come  if  you  can  (even  if  it  is  just  to  share  and/or  to  listen  to  ideas)!!

Dave  Claugus  Loses  His  Ribbon

In  what  has  become  a  more  common,  but  no  less  important  ceremony,  Dave  has  completed  his  new  member  tasks  and  with  help  from  Mentor  Bob  Vogel  and  Membership  Chair  Alice  Rowe,  happily  loses  his  ribbon  and  takes  his  place  among  the  distinguished  and  growing  ranks  of  new  Rotary  members  this  year.

New  Member  -‐  Tyler  Happe  As  President  Beth  reads  the  induction  speech,  Alice

attaches  a  Rotary  pin  welcoming  Tyler  as  our  newest  member.

Tyler  wanted  us  to  know  he  is  proud  to  be  a  part  of  the  Fair  Oaks  Rotary  and  to  give  back  to  the  community  that  he  has  forever  called  home.

Tyler  grew  up  in  Fair  Oaks  where  he  graduated  from  Bella  Vista  High  School.  After  receiving  his  bachelor's  degree  from  UCLA,

Tyler  returned  to  Sacramento  to  attend  the  University  of  PaciJic's  McGeorge  School  of  Law.  Even  though  he  currently  lives  in  Rocklin,  Tyler  considers  Fair  Oaks  to  be  the  center  of  his  world.  Tyler  is  the  founding  partner  of  Happe  Reid,  PC,  a  boutique  law  Jirm  focusing  on  business,  real  estate,  and  estate  planning,  and  located  right  here  in  Fair  Oaks.  Tyler  is  also  a  principal  of  Main  Street  Funding,  a  private  lending  and  trust  deed  investment  Jirm.  Outside  of  the  ofJice,  Tyler  enjoys  golJing,  winter  sports,  and  Jishing.  He's  looking  forward  to  meeting  each  of  you  and  to  ensuring  that  Fair  Oaks,  California  can  offer  as  much  to  future  inhabitants  as  it  has  to  him.

Mike  aMends  PETSMike Maddox

Thank  you  club  members  for  sending  me  to  President-‐Elect  Training  Seminar  (PETS)    in  San  Jose  last  weekend.  Thanks  also  to  Fred  Rowe  for  driving!

There  were  over  400  PE's  there  and  the  event  was  very  informative  and  organized.  It  was  three  days  of  learning,  networking,  fun  and  inspirational  speakers.

At  this  event,  each  PE  had  to  provide  their  district  with  two  club  goals:  membership  and  amount  of  annual  giving.

I  submitted  a  goal  of  obtaining  a  net  gain  of  two  members.  After  conferring  with  Bill  Wagner,  our  OUTSTANDING  Foundation  Chairperson,  the  annual  giving  goal  was  set  to  $10,000.  ($1,000  higher  than  last  year).  With  Bill  Wagner  at  the  helm,  and  the  generosity  of  members,  we  should  be  able  to  achieve  this  goal.

And  Jinally,  the  Jirst  ACTION  ITEM  for  me  is  to  persuade  as  many  club  members  as  possible  to  attend  the  District  Assembly  this  coming  March  23rd.  It's  only  a  half  day  (from  8  am  to  12:30)  and  the  small  fee  charged  is  paid  by  our  club...SO  PLEASE  ATTEND!!

Fair  Oaks  Inner  WheelInner  Wheel  President  Janet  McWilliams  took  the  mic

just  long  enough  to  share  a  few  facts  before  turning  the  program  over  to  the  Song  Bird  singers.

Janet  shared  how  Inner  Wheel  is  the  largest  Women’s  Service  organization  in  the  world.  Founded  in  1924  in  Manchester,  England,  the  vast  majority  of  members  are  outside  of  the  US.

The  Fair  Oaks  chapter  is  the  oldest  west  of  the  Mississippi  and  one  of  the  largest  with  32  members.

The  Fair  Oaks  Inner  Wheel  is  a  long-‐time  partner  to  our  Rotary  providing  invaluable  support  on  projects  such  as  the  Senior  Luau,  Crab  Feed,  and  the  Chicken  Festival.

A  Big  Thank  You!
