  • EASTENDERSTHE GANGSTER EFFECT

A gender balance in the show is maintained via the inclusion of various 'macho' male personalities such as Phil and Grant Mitchell, 'bad boys' such as Den Watts and Dennis Rickman.

often involved in gang culture and crime and seen as a local authority figure, other Examples include Steve Owen, Jack Dalton, Andy Hunter and Johnny Allen.

  • The mitchellsKemp debuted as hard-man Grant along with Steve McFadden, who played Grant's brother Phil Mitchell, in February 1990.

Kemp, as Grant, was often at the centre of EastEnders' plots, amongst them marrying Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean, daughter of "Dirty" Den Watts, before divorcing, after Sharon had an affair with Phil, and subsequently setting fire to their home.

  • He married Tiffany Mitchell played by Martine McCutcheon, fathering a daughter in a rocky and sometimes violent marriage that ended when Tiffany was run over and killed by Grant's stepfather Frank Butcher following an argument.Kemp left EastEnders in 1999, on a storyline that had Grant hijacking a drug deal which ended in him crashing his getaway car into the River Thames and presumed dead until a week later when he was seen with daughter Courtney at the airport getting on a plane to Brazil.

  • The man Grant mitchell

  • In early 2005, the BBC confirmed that Kemp would be returning to EastEnders later in the year after six years away from his iconic role as Grant Mitchell.

Kemp's absence from the series being covered in a storyline in which Grant returned to Brazil.

Of the two brothers Phil was initially the calmer, but both had a sense of physical danger about them, and both displayed stereotypical masculinity, thuggish behaviour and a tendency to resolve problems through violence.

  • Phil can be violent, but unlike Grant he has occasionally shown restraint when dealing with the various enemies he has encountered exacting revenge over time, using mind games or getting others to do his dirty work.

Among the many issues the character of Phil has been used to cover is alcoholism and the profound consequences the condition has upon the sufferer's domestic life.He was first introduced as the lesser of two thugs, but became a darker character upon his brother's exit. More recent storylines, such as the return of his son Ben, have shown a softer side to the character.

  • Steve and danbest freinds but better enemies

  • JOHNEY ALLAN

In late 2004,bill murray joined the cast of popular BBC soap opera EastEnders, playing gangster Johnny Allen. His first scenes were broadcast in January 2005.

Murray's character terrorised numerous characters on the programme, including Peggy Mitchell, Phil Mitchell, Grant Mitchell Sharon Rickman and Pauline Fowler.

  • He departed from the show in March 2006 when his character was jailed after confessing to ordering the murder of Dennis Rickman and carrying out the murder of Andy Hunter.

  • I wonder what would happen if these two crossed pathes

  • Steve owenfirst arrived in 1998, he had bought the Market Cellar, which he had renovated and named E20.

Saskia Duncan steves ex turned up on Albert Square. She had carried his child and then had a termination .They had row then steve accidentally killed her She was buried in Epping Forest with the help of Matthew Rose, who witnessed the events. In September 1999, a trial was held and in a shocking verdict by the jury, Matthew was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to seven years in prison. Matthew's conviction was quashed on appeal within months, and he took revenge upon his return in February 2000, tying Steve to a chair in the E20 and threatening to set fire to the club. Steve found himself reduced to a scared, helpless man, which was all Matthew wanted.

  • The death of steve After a high-speed car chase with phil Steve swerved and crashed into a wall. Phil went back for Steve but the car exploded into flames with Steve inside killing him instantly.

  • The bill It began as Woodentop, a one-hour segment by Geoff McQueen for Thames' Storyboard anthology (ITV, 1983) chronicling the arrival of probationary PC Jim Carver at the (fictional) Sun Hill police station in London's East End.

Only Carver (Mark Wingett) and June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) remain from the pilot.

The Bill began as a series of 11 one-hour episodes, retaining that format for the following three years,But in 1987 it changed to a soap-style twice-weekly half-hour format. This move heralded its most popular period.

  • A touch of frost and cracker are 2 great crime dramas

  • Taggart and inspecter morse are 2 detective dramas that are well done

  • Lock ,stock and two smoking barrells and snatch

  • Lock stock and 2 smokin barrellsThere are a thousand plot twists, but the story is that a group of tyro crooks owe money they don't have to a pornographer, but when they hear their next door neighbours planning a raid on a group of dope growers, they decide to hijack the heist.

It's a slickly edited movie with no real stand-out performances (in fact some of the London accents are well dodgy), but the presence of soccer hardman Vinnie Jones - making his surprisingly effective .

  • My thoughtsIts brash, its brutal, its slang-rich, it has banter and a twisted plot that literally leaves you hanging.

  • Images from the films love, honour and obey and sexy beast

  • Love , honour and obeyLove, Honour and Obey is a 2000 mock gangster film starring several members of the Primrose Hill set.

  • The film gangster or the tv gangsterThe film characters dont develop as well as those in soaps as they are not revealed as well to us with limited time. But in films they can do alot worse things the soaps are more restricted. I dond think i could pick a favourite way to portray gangsters film or tv .

My favouite tv british gangster is a tie between jonney allan and grant mitchell whos not really a gangster hes more of a hard man.And my favourite british gangster film character is big chris played by vinnie jones in lock stock.
