News and Information about Chamber Members, Meetings, and Events

The beginning of the year is always a busy time at the Chamber, with wrapping up

the previous year’s events and activities, and planning for everything happening in the

coming months. This year is no different, except perhaps it is even busier, as we

prepare for the completion of major developments taking place in the downtown.

New residents are already moving into Woodmont Metro at Metuchen Station, and

the first stage of the District at Metuchen — with a new Whole Foods Market

and several other commercial spaces — is nearly completed. By the end of 2017, the town plaza should be complete.

All of this change in the downtown brings with it challenges, but also opportunities for improvement. The

Chamber is committed to capitalizing on every chance possible to fulfill our mission of advancing the civic, industrial, professional, and commercial interests of the Borough of

Metuchen and vicinity, maintaining a high standard of

integrity in business practices, and distributing information of value to

our members. We actively seek to bring business to the doorsteps

of our members, and to provide opportunities for Metuchen

residents and businesses to share in activities that are mutually

rewarding and improve the quality of life for all.

LEON

SCHWARTZ

Leon is the co-owner of Carpet

Maven II new location at 450 Main St in Metuchen. For 32 years

he has worked side by side with his wife and business partner Sherri Schwartz at the Carpet

Maven on Main Street in Woodbridge. Leon has always been proud to be an involved member of

the business community. He has held the position of both the President of the Woodbridge Downtown Merchants Association and the Vice President of the

Woodbridge Special Improvement District for 5+ years and became involved with the Metuchen

Downtown Alliance as soon as he arrived. He currently serves on the Marketing and Economic

Vitality Committees of the MDA.

As a past member of the Woodbridge Chamber Board of Directors Leon organized and chaired the

Small Business Forum. He hosted and chaired the Woodbridge Downtown Cruise nights for over 20

years to raise money for local charities. His efforts resulted in six scholarships awarded to three local

high school students this past year. In acknowledgement of Leon’s hard work over the years, he has been the recipient of several Mayor’s

Volunteer Appreciation Awards. He was previously recognized and honored as the Small Business

Person of the Year by the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Leon is a true community-minded individual who

has made his mark hosting spelling bees, chairing events, raising funds for charities and for truly

caring for the communities he serves. Leon and Sherri are the proud parents of Morissa Schwartz,

a graduate student at Monmouth University and owner of GenZ Publishing.

Remember Metuchenopoly? We do! The Chamber

issued a special edition in 2000, in honor of Metuchen’s Centennial. We’ve been sold out of the

game for many years, but still get requests. So, we’re working on re-issuing the game and will have more information soon on sponsorship

opportunities. If you want to be on the list to contact immediately with pricing information,

contact the office to put your name on the list.
