A letter from Siobhan

Dear  Marianne,

First  of  all  how  are  you?  Hope  everything´s  Nine  with  you  old  friend,  we  have  long  time  no  talking  and  I  miss  you.  I  want  to  know  everything  about  your  life  in  Canada,  your  family  and  work.

I  am  still  working  at  the  same  school  and  I´m  happier  than  ever.  There  is  this  boy  called  Christopher  who  suffers  from  Apergers  Autism,  he  is  just  Nifteen  years  old  and  I  help  him  with  his  special  needs  at  school.

In  the  one  hand  I  feel  blessed  with  this  opportunity  because  Christopher  is  a  great  boy  and  has  so  much  to  learn  about,  but  in  the  other  hand  I  can´t  avoid  a  feeling  of  sadness  inside.

I  bet  is  not  a  piece  of  cake  to  raise  a  boy  with  such  difNiculties,  it  is  hard  for  him  to  socialize,  talking  with  his  class  mates  and  teacher  and  learning  in  school. He  have  been  working  together  with  a  system.  This  system  is  based  on  pictures  and  words  to  practice  the  talking  and  make  it  easier  for  him.

I  look  forward  to  your  reply.  I  love  you  and  miss  you,Your  friend  Siobhan

How can I help a

kid like Christopher

fit into society?

How  can  I  help  a  kid  like  Christopher  Nit  into  society?

How  can  I  help  him  develop  his  language  in  such  a  way  that  other  people  may  understand  what  he  tries  to  express?

Christopher  is  a  Nifteen  years  old  boy  who  has  Asperger´s  Autism;  it  is  difNicult  for  him  to  socialize  so  it  would  be  gentle  of  our  parts  to  help  them.

I  would  say  that  the  Nirst  thing  we  have  to  do  to  make  them  feel  confortable  in  a  group  of  people

REFLECTIVE  JOURNAL  #1How  I  felt  after  researching  about  autism

After  researching  about  Autism  and  Asperger´s  I  cleared  many  doubts  I  had  about  this  syndromes,  I  was  Ninally  able  to  understand  how  the  Autisms  live  and  how  they  see  life.

I  found  myself  with  mixed  feelings,  because  it  is  not  that  just  the  boy  or  the  girl  has  a  different  life,  but  their  family  and  people  around  them  should  know  how  to  treat  them  and  what  should  they  do  and  what  shouldn´t  they  do  to  them.

It  is  hard  for  me  to  imagine  that  the  son  won´t  give  a  hug  to  his  mom  or  will  not  express  his  feeling  as  the  other  kids,  or  maybe  one  day  he  would  be  Nlapping  his  hands  at  school  and  his  classmates  will  make

fun  of  him.  So  we  should  be  careful  when  treating  an  autism  and  make  people  around  them  know  that  they  need  a  special  care.

Also  it  is  very  important  to  remember  that  a  soon  treatment  can  help  the  kid  develop  the  communication  skills  better.

REFLECTIVE  JOURNAL  #2What  I  learned  while  making  the  cards  for  the  system

Making  the  cards  for  my  system  shown  above,  I  found  myself  with  different  feelings.  I  have  to  admit  that  at  Nirst  I  felt  like  doing  something  stupid  or  useless,  but  then  I  stopped  for  a  while  to  think  and  I  realized  that  with  that  little  drawings  and  words  many  kids  will  be  able  to  develop  their  talking  and  communications  skills.

So  the  feeling  of  wasting  time  went  out  and  I  felt  satisNied  with  my  self  and  with  what  I  was  doing.  actually  I  enjoyed  it  a  lot,  it  was  fun  and  nice  to  learn  something  with  so  much  importance  and  as  helpful  as  the  PEC.

REFLECTIVE  JOURNAL  #3Solving  conNlicts

In  my  opinion,  the  way  a  person  solves  its  conNlicts  and  problems  talks  so  much  about  it.  The  most  important  thing  is  to  face  the  problems,  because  running  from  them  is  a  race  we  will  never  win.We  have  to  be  courageous  and  strong  to  face  whatever  situation  life  takes  us  through.

REFLECTIVE  JOURNAL  #4Unique  style

We  live  in  a  manipulating  world,  many  of  our  lives  or  what  we  want  is  based  on  what  what  we  see  or  listen.  It  is  very  important  to  be  original,  to  have  a  UNIQUE  STYLE;  a  unique  style  to  write,  to  talk,  to  dress,  to  walk  and  to  live.

Each  one  of  us  should  be  aware  of  where  are  we  going  and  if  it  is  what  we  really  want.  Be  respectful  with  everyone,  oldest  or  youngest  than  you.  Respect  their  way  of  thinking  and  living  because  thats  the  way  they  want  to  be  and  you  can´t  control  everyone´s  lives.  So  accept,  love,  and  learn  the  most  you  can  of  each  person´s  styles.
