People of ProgressThis week we’re learning about unity. We’re learning how God can bring different people together for a common purpose. And we’re learning how God’s unity knits us together as a team — as the family of God.

Share Your Story• When has someone treated you well?

• When have you seen someone treat another person well in a way that transformed a community?

WATCH THE VIDEO

NorthlandChurch.net/StudiesAfterward have someone read the discussion questions in the “Hear God’s Story” section and start the conversation.

Hear God’s Story and Create a New Story LUKE 10:25-37 (NIV)

Read the passages together, and then discuss the following questions.

• Which of the three people — the priest, the religious citizen (Levite) or the social outcast (Samaritan) — would you expect to help the injured man?

• Why and how did the Samaritan respond?

• What question did Jesus answer with this parable? What does the parable mean?

• Have you benefited from a good samaritan in your life? What impact did he or she have on you? What impact do you think the samaritan had on the man he helped?

• Why do you think the priest and the religious citizen avoided helping?

• What are reasons we don’t show God’s goodness when we encounter needs to which we can respond?

• How can you and your group or community members help one another be ready to respond to future needs?

Give each person an opportunity to share prayer requests.

Find Your Story in God’s StoryIf you feel God is nudging you to go deeper, take some time between now and our next discussion to dig into His Word. Explore the Bible passages related to this session’s theme on your own, jotting your reflections in a journal or in this study guide. Want to go deeper? Select a few verses and try paraphrasing them: writing them in your own words. If you like, share them with the group the next time you meet.

Where do you see God working for the good both in your life and through your community right now?

READ JOHN 15:1-8 (NIV)

• What does it mean to “bear fruit”?

• Why is it important to “remain on the vine”?

• How does this illustration about the vine and the branches describe the Christian life?

• In last week’s study, we examined Acts 2:42-47 and saw a picture of what it means to be a community that follows Jesus together. What are some ways we can show ourselves to be disciples of Jesus (v. 8)?

READ GALATIANS 5:13-26 (NIV)

• What is the fruit of the Holy Spirit? Part of the fruit of the Spirit is “goodness” — what does that tell you about where we receive goodness from?

• In contrast, what is the fruit — or result — of living according to our own flesh?

• What are some ways we can “keep in step with the Spirit” (v. 25)?

• What traits would you expect to see evident in a community of people belonging to Jesus? How could you and your community practice using the fruit of the Spirit that God has developed in you?
