Former patient transforms medicine cupsinto bells. All it takes is a little ingenuity. When Mrs. Alice Hales of Livingston, Texaswas a patient in Livingston Memorial Hospital

in the spring of 1974, she asked the hospitalstaff to save her thermometer cases and plasticmedicine cups. The staff did as Mrs. Halesrequested and she took the collection homewith her. Later she returned the items to thehospital, but in a different form. The medicinecups had been transformed into red and greenChristmas bells. Mrs. Hales painted the cups, trimmed them in gold glitter and attached ajingle bell with a pipe cleaner to the inside ofeach cup. With the thermometer cases, shesimply inserted red pipe cleaners to serve astree hooks. She also made some Styrofoammice adorned with strips of fabric. The hospitalChristmas tree was located in the lobby. Theonly decorations on the tree which were notmade by Mrs. Hales are the candy canes and theSanta Claus on the top.
