PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Excellent, I hope. I am thinking of the many blessings we each have including the gift of painting beautiful pieces. We are so lucky to belong to a wonderful chapter full of caring members. Every month we are blessed to have talented teachers showing us something new to paint to broaden our world of color and art. Thank you everyone for surviving a challenging and different kind of year.

I will miss our Christmas party that was to be held this month. The committee chairs, Linda Eastom and Linda Camp, luckily put the brakes on the planning for this year but they are saving the fun for next year. We now have twice as long to paint up those centerpieces and raffle prizes you all love to win and hopefully next year we should be able to have a lovely sit-down meal with good cheer and laughter.

We had a terrific day with Lori Hillstead in the November class- painting a Quail in a desert scene. I can’t wait to see what yours look like. The bird was easier to paint than I im-agined, and I loved her technique in painting the cactus. It looks pretty good! If you chose to paint it on a flagstone, it’s going to look spectacular in your garden. Thank you, Linda S., for hosting the teacher and monitoring the class.

We held a General Meeting after lunch which included Teri Hayes presenting our nominee for membership-Cynthia Me-gill. She was unanimously voted in and we welcome her as our new Board member for 2021. We sadly say goodbye to Leslie and Debi after each volunteering for three years in their Board positions with both doing an exemplary job. They are not getting away that easy as they will both remain very active in our chapter.

We are not painting in December, so I am saving myself for Ramona’s class ‘Jacobean Style Tray’ that is being offered as our January class. We love painting Rosemary West patterns and are so lucky Ramona is offering this class to us. I am signed up and hope you are too. At the January class we will have a General Meeting which will include the Installation of Officers. We also have the project vote for 2021-2022 coming up. Details will be in the newsletter.

NEWS from 1st Vice Presidents (Programs)

Once again Lori showed her expertise and great teaching techniques to guide us through the beautiful quail piece. I love the colors of the dessert created a warm and beautiful piece. Thank you so much Lori. With 2021 on the horizon, please remember we still have some fantastic classes remaining on our calendar. January’s class with Ramona, her “Jacobean Style” tray is really beautiful and can be painted on any sur-face, however she painted it on a metal tray. So, sign up soon, let’s start off the new year in style. But let’s not forget Karen’s still life flower painting for February. Karen’s designs are always popular, and she brings so much to the painting experience. Be sure to add your name and money to that list too.

Seminar news: Be sure to mark your calendars for the first weekend in June, the 5th & 6th, for the Rosemary West seminar, hopefully we will be able to proceed with that date. Linda has the Os boxes we ordered, and they are $30 each. With the end of the year approaching, it is not too late to purchase an Os box for seminar, but they will still be available in the new year. Just send your check to Linda Silvasy and we will put your name on a

box and hopefully get it to you soon. Remember, Linda will be taking your payments for upcom-ing paint-ins. A great big THANK YOU to Debi for her years of hard work for our chapter. Linda could still use some help, so please step up, it does “take a village” so please consider volunteering.

December babies carry the seasonal spirit with them all year long. They live for a long, long time. A study published in the Journal of Aging Research reports that people born in December are more likely to live to 105 — or even longer. It’s the holiday season again. Thank goodness. After what has been a particularly difficult year, a little seasonal cheer has never felt more comforting or needed, even if the smiles need to be hidden behind Christmas themed masks. To get you in the mood for Christmas, Lifetime has 30 new holiday movies and the Hallmark Channels have 40 new holiday movies. Even Netflix has some new productions this year, the animated Angela’s Christmas Wish, and a Christmas romance to rival Hallmark – A California Christmas. Also a look back at classic Christmas favorites with The Holidays That Made Us. Now that our kitchens get more use you can get some holiday ideas on the third season of The Great British Baking Show: Holidays. Unfortunately, 2020 couldn’t go without giving us one last kick on the way out the door. Netflix will be re-moving some truly classics with all four Indiana Jones, all seven seasons of The West Wing and all three Back to the Future and The Office, among others. The Indiana Jones and Back to the Future movies are some of my all time favorites. On December 1 we celebrate Giving Tuesday and World AIDS Day. December 4th is National Cookie Day. It’s not too early to start baking Christmas cookies. December 7 is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Don’t forget to fly your American flag. December 10 is the start of Hanukkah. December 13 is the third Sunday of Advent and National Cocoa Day which goes good with some of those Christmas cookies if you haven’t eaten them all! December 17 is National Maple Syrup Day and Wright Brothers Day. December 18 is the end of Hanukkah. December 21 is the start of Winter Solstice. Friday, December 25 is Christmas followed by Boxing Day and the start of Kwanzaa on December 26th. Some famous people who were born in December are Walt Disney, Sammy Davis, Jr., Emily Dickinson, Ada Lovelace who developed the world's first computer software, a century before there was an actu-al computer to use it. Also born in December were Frank Sinatra, Jane Austen, Ludwig Van Bee-thoven, Clara Barton, and Henri Matisse.

Palomar Heritage Painters November General Membership Meeting 2020

Date: November 14, 2020 Location: Online Zoom Meeting called to order at: 12:25 Members present: 22 Carol Voyles, president updated us on the following:

Christmas Party – The December 6th Christmas party is canceled due to the virus and will be rescheduled for next year with the same committee.

January 9th class – “A Jacobean Style Tray”, will be taught by Ramona Jacobs

It is a Rosemary West design.

Installation of Officers – will take place at the January Paint-In.

Project Vote – Linda Silvasy stated that the vote will be on the website, but maybe in person.

February 13th class – “Red Love” will be taught by Karen Ortman

March 13th class – “Mystery Paint In” with Linda Sharp and chaired by Susan Schoeppner and committee members. Send class signups to Debi Stivers until December 31st, then sign-up book will transfer over to Linda Silvasy starting January 1st, 2021.

Membership – PHP Membership renewal for 2021 – We have 38 members who have sent in their applica-tions to Leslie. Existing 2020 members received a Golden ticket in the mail waiving their 2021 chapter dues.

New Members – Dues will be $15 and membership will be active starting January 1, 2021.

The application is in the newsletter. We are an affiliated chapter of SDP so you must be a member of SDP.

Elections – Two Board positions are open for 2021. Membership and ½ of the Programs position. Teri Hayes is our nominating person. 2021 Slate of Officers were listed in the November newsletter for the members to preview.

Committee positions 2021 – 2021 The board will be looking to appoint and approve some of the committee positions including – Ways and Means 2021, Hospitality 2021 and Mystery Paint-In 2022.

Carol introduced Teri Hayes to conduct our Elections for 2021.

The Slate of Officers for 2021 – President – Carol Voyles (remain in office), 1st Vice President Programs – Linda Silvasy (remain in office), 2nd Vice President Membership– Cynthia Megill, Secretary – Linda Eastom (remain in office), Treasurer – Susan Schoeppner (remain in office) Terry Hayes moved that we accept Cynthia Megill as our new 2nd Vice President Membership. It was seconded and passed.

You will get off at the Woodland Parkway/ Barham Dr. exit. Continue till the light and make a left hand turn, you will be on Barham Rd., continue & you will go through 2 more lights after the second light (La Moree), make sure you are in the right hand lane, because you will make a right hand turn into my Mobile Home Park, drive straight ahead, till you have to either turn left or right and make a right then an immediate left you will see the pool area. Parking is all along the pool area, the clubhouse is up the brick stairs. If you are coming from the Hwy 15 take the 78 Hwy West. Take the Woodland Pwky/Barham Dr. exit. You will be going on a cloverleaf, stay to your right and go to the light and make a right, on Woodland Pkwy, go under the underpass and get in the left hand turn lane to make a left on Barham Dr. From here follow the same instructions as I wrote for com-
