THE LP(LONG PLAYING ALBUM)/ A VINYL • Successfully commercialised

during the early 50’s by Columbia Records (CBS).

• When introduced to the market, 12 inch Vinyl's could be played for a maximum of 45minutes(divided over 2 sides).

• Columbia records in 1952 began to bring out Eps(Extended Plays) over 52 minutes long with 26 minutes on each side.

• The Vinyl meant that mass- production of music could be done.

• Negative aspect: it scratched and damaged easily!

THE COMPACT DISK(CD• The compact disk or (CD) as it came to be known was one of the greatest products which took the music industry to never before seen sights.

• Introduced along with the Sony CD player, the CD reduced the risks and the disadvantages of previous music devices.

• It did not scratch easily as the vinyl and it was much more easy to carry around and manage than the cassette.

• The CD meant mass production on scales never seen before and this would mean higher sales for artists.

• It was first introduced to the market in 1982 and it was not until 1987 that it overtook Vinyl sales and 1991 when it overtook the cassette.

narcissistically identify with their favourite artists
