1.0 IntroductionGiven that Kenya is to be industrialized by the year 2030 in line with vision 2030 and the birth of the new Kenyan constitution, there was need for reg-istration and recognition of Engineering Technolo-gists and Technicians through a professional body in order for them to join the engineering team in this noble task.

Institution of Engineering Technologists and Tech-nicians (IET) birthday was on 16th November, 2011 when the Kenya Government registered the Insti-tution under the societies Act section 10 through certificate of registration number 35998.

The main objective of the Institution is to promote the advancement of the profession of engineering technology and the science of engineering technol-ogy in Kenya.

Engineering is an important and learned profession that requires a high standard of scientific educa-tion, together with specialised training, develop-ment and experience. Engineering Technologists and Technicians are expected to show the highest standards of honesty, integrity, impartiality and fairness towards all persons connected with their work. They must also be dedicated to the protec-tion of public health, safety and well being. Profes-sional Engineering Technologists and Technicians must perform to a standard of behaviour that re-quires utmost adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct that include moral duty and ob-ligation to perform to perfection and satisfaction of the end user.

The aim of the Institution is to:

i. Advance the profession of Engineering Tech-nologists and Technicians in Kenya.

ii. Further and promote education and training and to encourage professional development of Engineering Technologists and Technicians.

iii. Advance and uphold the dignity and status of the profession by obtaining International rec-ognition through Dublin and Sydney Accords.

iv. Promote research and encourage the writing and presentation of papers, on matters per-taining to engineering technology.

v. Professionally deal with and engage in all matters concerning and relating to the profes-sion.

vi. Form such branch or branches as may from time to time be deemed necessary within the Republic of Kenya for the benefit of the mem-bers.

2.0 VisionIET vision is to share advanced engineering tech-nology knowledge globally for the benefit of man-kind.

3.0 MissionOur mission is to build an open, flexible and liberal-ized professional network supported by engineer-ing technology professionals, institutions and com-panies facilitated by the IET members with global recognition.

4.0 Core Values:Our core values include but not limited to:

v. Timely service delivery with honesty

5.0 Types of Memberships:Types of membership include:

i. Honorary Fellow-A nominated member with outstanding contribution to IET.

ii. Fellow Member-Msc/PhD

iii. Full Member-B.Tech/B.Phil/HND/H.Dip.

iv. Corporate Member-Company/Org.

v. Retired Member- Former Member above 65 yrs

vi. Associate Member-Other related qualifica-tions

vii. Graduate member-New graduate with no ex-perience.

viii. Certified Engineering Technician-Diploma holder.

ix. Dully Qualified Craft people/Artisan-Certifi-cate holder.

x. Student Member-Student in a recognized En-gineering discipline in an accredited Institu-tion.

A register of the names and addresses of all mem-bers is available at the National Secretariat to members for inspection during normal working hours.

6.0 Membership Acronyms:Dully registered members are free to use the fol-lowing acronyms after their official names in the register:

i. Honorary Fellows- Hon FIET

ii. Fellow Members- FIET

iii. Full Member- MIET

iv. Corporate Members-COMIET

v. Retired Members- RIET

vi. Associates- AIET

vii. Graduates- GIET

viii. Certified Engineering Technician- CET

ix. Dully Qualified Craft people/Artisan- DQC/ DQA

x. Student Member- SIET

7.0 Membership Registration Procedures:

Every bona fide Kenyan citizen in the engineer-ing Technology profession is eligible to apply for admission onto the various categories of mem-bership detailed in the table shown, upon paying a non-refundable application fee of Kshs.1,000/= (USD 15) in full.

An Expatriate wishing to register with IET shall pay a non-refundable application fee of Kshs.5,000/= (USD 70) for admission onto the various categories of membership detailed in the table shown. Appli-cation forms (Form I.E.T 2) are available in J13 (and will soon be downloaded from the internet).

All payments shall be made through the Equity Bank Ltd, Harambee Branch; Harambee Avenue, on Account Number 0240298461590. Original copies of the Bank Teller and the completed Membership Application Form with the relevant documents and a self addressed stamped envelope to be sent to the IET National Secretariat, P.O. Box 52428-00200 NAIROBI, or pay at the National Secretariat Office, The Kenya Polytechnic University College in Room J13 and obtain a receipt.

On acceptance of membership, the Council shall is-sue a certificate of membership of the Institution.

8.0 Monthly and Annual contributionsMembers shall pay monthly and annual contributions from time to time as follows:

10. Dully Qualified Craft People/Artisan 2,500 (USD 36) 12,500 (USD 180) Payable yearly

11. Student Member 1,000 (USD 15) 5,000 (USD 70) Payable yearly

Annual fees shall become due in advance on the first day of January of every year.
