The ISB LogoThe ISB logo is made up of the globe, metamorphosing gradually into birds in flight. The earth depicts the quality of nurturing, fundamental to an educational institution. It symbolises a rock solid foundation of learning, while the birds represent freedom of thought and the ability to innovate and transcend traditional boundaries. The letters ‘ISB’ (also called the logotype) are written in a special font which must be steadfastly adhered to. It is this combination of two seemingly opposite forms – one anchored and stable, the other free and soaring high – that make the logo so appropriate for ISB. It clearly crystallises the ISB mission – to create the leaders of tomorrow by imparting education that is in line with the highest international standards. The ISB logo should always be printed in the 4 process colours CMYK from authorised digital artworks.

Logo Unit

Every communication from the ISB to the public affects the image and reputation of the organisation. Advertisements, web-pages, business cards, newsletters, are the face of the ISB to many people. The ISB’s visual identity has a dual purpose. To the outsiders it represents our character, strength, tradition, and values. Internally it creates a sense of pride and commitment to our common mission and goal.

Logo Unit Colours The logo may only be produced in Blue Pantone 2945C. The process colour equivalent is C: 100 M: 38 Y: 0 K: 15. For screen printing match the colour to Pantone 2945CV. When it appears in grey scale applications the globe will be printed in halftone grey scale image, while the birds will be printed in 75% Black. The logo type may always be printed in true Black.

Logo PlacementThe logo should be prominently and clearly placed, on the top right hand corner or centre top of all visual communication. Preferred placement of the logo is the top right corner of a page with at least a 0.25 inch from the text / border / graphic /gutter. For banners and backdrops, the logo unit should be placed on the ‘premium’ spot, meaning that it should be given prime space and size, over and above all text and sponsor/sub-brand logos. In case there is a photo opportunity, the logo unit may be placed in the best available position so that the logo unit is captured in the photographs along with the key event participants.

ISB Logo & Logotype

From where can we obtain the ISB logo unit? The logo can be downloaded from the ISB website. The ISB logotype is derived from the Bauer Bodoni typeface and is always to be used in the same font. In case of any clarification please contact the Communications Department for clarifications.

Can we use the logotype as a symbol on its own? In order to maintain the visual integrity of the logo, it is important to always maintain the relationship between the ISB Logo and the Logotype in terms of size, scale, and placement. It is acceptable to use the logotype or the symbol on its own, for visual / graphic reasons, but the unit must appear again on the same collateral in its whole form with the prescribed relationships. Please remember that the logo unit cannot be separated into its individual parts.

When do we use the ISB logo with the name and when without? In applications with statutory requirements such as letterheads and legal documents the full name of the School should be used along with the logo unit; the full name may be placed as per convenience while the logo needs to be placed in a place of prominence, over and above all else. The logo is a symbol and may not be understood, therefore, for new target audiences, the full name of the School would give a clarity about what the letters ISB stands for.

Can the proportion or the placement of the globe be altered vis-à-vis the logotype? No. It is important to always maintain the relationship between the ISB Globe and the Logotype in terms of size, scale, and placement. The entire unit is the logo and it should not be separated into individual elements.

Can the logo be used as part of a sentence? No. The ISB logo cannot be placed as part of a sentence.

Can we use the birds from the logo while designing collaterals and brochures? Yes. The birds ( and only the birds ) can be used as a design element.

Do the birds have to be in the same colour, blue? Can we use another colour? You can use another colour as long as it is part of the ISB colour palette.

Can the logo be used on coloured backgrounds? When the logo appears on coloured backgrounds, it is important to ensure there is a sufficient amount of contrast between the logo and the background. Isolation Zones should also be carefully maintained. In general, the ISB colour palette allows for muted flat colours as background for the logo. Textured or printed backgrounds that distract from the logo should not be used.

Can the logo be used on dark backgrounds? No, the Brand guideleines do not allow the use of the logo on dark backgrounds. However, the use of the dark colours suggested by the Brand colour palette may be used. In such cases, care should be taken to ensure that: 1. The forms of the birds does not disappear into the ground. 2. The Logotype is set in reverse colours – all white or blue logo+birds and white letterings.Keeping this in mind a special version of the logo has been developed for use on darkbackgrounds. Correct Usage: Birds to be printed in Pantone 2925, or C: 87 M: 23 Y: 0 K: 0

Can the logo be used on halftone or textured backgrounds? Avoid placing the logo directly on a halftone or textured background as this is too distracting.

Can the logo be used as a background graphic? In some instances the ISB logo may be used as a base visual or graphic in a layout. In such cases, certain rules apply: 1. These versions cannot be used in lieu of the logo, If the logo is being used as a background graphic, it appear again in a clear form in the correct Brand colours in good contrast with the background.

2. The background image must not hamper the readability of overlying text. Eg., Grayscale logo on a note pad.

How should the logo be used whilst co branding? In instances where the ISB sponsors an event, either singly or jointly with another organisation, the words “sponsored by” are typeset in Helvetica light and are placed above the ISB logo with left alignment.AT all times, the ISB logo should be given prominent space and should never used be in a secondary or minor position, relative to other sponsor logos.

The Isolation ZoneThe Isolation Zone is the area around the ISB logo where no other element such as text, typography, rules, boxes etc. should not be used. The convention used to measure free space area is determined as equivalent to “x” as shown alongside. This is to ensure that the ISB logo is perceived as a discrete entity which is clearly visible even in layouts with many elements. This applies to all logos of the School, such as the individual Centre and Institute logo, and any other new initiative which may come up in due course.
