Thanks to Robin Weeks and many others for our participation in the Caring and

Sharing Christmas gift tree for needy Children. Thanks to Lyle and Sarah Cater

for their gift program for children at the Billory Baptist Church. Thanks to all--

members generously purchased gifts for all the children in both programs and for

the Children’s Christmas party.

Thanks to all who attended our annual Elks memorial at the Lodge on Dec 2nd.

Our departed members last year were James Bergami and Rodney Parish.

A special thanks to our Celebrity Bartenders who volunteered their services to

help reduce our Club labor costs. Last month, our celebrities were Robin Stevens,

Pat Schulte, and Bill White.

The district will conduct a DD clinic Jan 12 at the Pensacola Beach Lodge. The

ER, Leading Knight, Trustee Chairman, and Secretary are required to attend and

all Elks are invited to attend.

We are conducting an in-house Business Practices training for all officers and po-

tential officers using Elk training Discs and manuals. Our first session was in Dec

and our next session will be Tuesday, January 29th at 6:30 PM. I encourage every-

one to attend—it will give you a better appreciation of the business aspects of oper-

ating a Lodge.

Nominations for Lodge Officers start in February. Now is the time for all of us to

think about accepting nominations, appointments, or committee appointments,

and to make plans for next year. The future of our Lodge depends on new blood!

It is OK to discuss these preparations and plans with your fellow Elks.

I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and will have a happy and prosperous

2013.

Fraternally,

Toby Griner, [email protected], 939-3058

Caring and Sharing

I would like to thank everyone who participated in Caring and Sharing

this year. A child will be happier this Christmas because of your gener-

osity. We had 25 generous gifts that were delivered to Caring and Shar-

ing at St Sylvester’s Church. Thanks to Robin Weeks for helping put this

together. Thanks to Connie Mussari for helping deliver and making sure

all gifts were there.

Elks Food for the Hungry program

Again our members stepped up with gifts for 26 children for this local

community program conducted with the Billory Baptist Church. Thanks

to Lyle and Sarah Cater for heading up this program, carrying the gifts to

the children, and all the work they have done. Thanks to all who donated

a gift for the children in the charitable “food for the hungry” program.

Linda Griner,

Activities Chairperson

ELKS LODGE #2787 Lodge Activities

Lets pray for

a safe and

joyous Year.

Election of Lodge Officers

At the first membership meeting in February, we will nominate Lodge Officers for the coming year

(begins on 1 Apr, 2013). At the second February meeting we will accept additional nominations if there

are still none for a position, but we will have the elections at that meeting.

In years past we have had a difficult time getting members to serve in the officer positions. Some seem

to think that those currently serving can just continue on forever. The fact is some of the officers have

been serving more than a year. Maybe it is time for some new ideas, some new energy, and some fresh

ideas in those positions. Maybe it is time you gave it some thought to becoming an officer. It is not diffi-

cult. It just takes some of your time and dedication.

I remind you, our Elks Lodge can’t continue without a full slate of officers. We are not even a bar with-

out a full slate of officers. The elected officer positions are Exalted Ruler (President), Esteemed Leading

Knight, Esteemed Loyal Knight, Esteemed Lecturing Knight (Vice Presidents), three Trustees, and

Tiler. Two other vital elected positions are the Secretary and the Treasurer. Think you are ready for

one of the positions? Talk to any current officer or to any Past Exalted Ruler and they can tell you what

positions will be open and what the job entails, and will be glad to train and tutor you next year.

There are also three officer positions which are appointed by the new ER; Esquire, Chaplin, and Inner

Guard. If you are interested in one of those, see the new ER after the elections. He/she also needs a va-

riety of committee chairpersons and members. Step up and volunteer for one. The ER cannot do it all

by himself.

If I can answer any questions, please contact me.

Fraternally,

Toby Griner, ER, 939-3058, [email protected]

Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year for four years) for Elks children or grandchildren. The Founda-tion will offer a total of up to 250 awards. Applications for Legacy Award scholarships are due by February 1st. Apply on line only (see http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/legacy.cfm)

Who is Eligible?

1. Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or be-fore April 1, 2010, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2010, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2013. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. 2. The applicant must be a high school senior.

3. The applicant must apply online only. Applications will be available ONLINE ONLY after September 1, 2012.

4. If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge. 5. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value. 6. Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.) Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the American College Test by December 31, 2012.

How Do I Apply, and What Are the Deadlines? Eligible students should apply in the following manner:

1. The student must complete and submit the ONLINE application by 12:00 p.m. (noon) Central Standard Time on the February 1, 2013, deadline. Click here to start your 2013 Legacy Awards application online. 2. The Elk sponsor’s membership will be verified through the BPOE Grand Lodge headquarters.

3. When a student registers to complete the online application, both the applicant and Lodge Secretary will be notified

by email. Upon receipt of the application, the applicant will receive a notification that the application was received. Winners will be announced in April 2013.

Note: Because the contest begins in one Lodge year and the winners are announced in the next, a Legacy Award could go to the child or grandchild of a lapsed member. An applicant's Elk parent or grandparent must be a paid-up member in good standing at the time of application, but if the Elk chooses not to renew membership, that decision will not affect the outcome of the Legacy Awards contest.

I’m writing to you on behalf of our Exalted Ruler, and of the other officers of the lodge.

As most of you know, Patty Quinn has been our bingo coordinator for several years, and has done an outstanding job. Patty’s job as

coordinator includes counting and keeping track of all bingo money, ordering supplies, making popcorn, cleaning after Bingo, selling

cards and entertaining the players. It’s tough for one person to do it all.

That being said, we are seeking volunteers to run bingo on Friday nights when Patty cannot make it. We are also seeking Bingo

Callers, and cooks for grilling on Friday nights. We would like to get enough volunteers to so we can have a rotating schedule.

As you all know, Bingo is an important fund raiser for our charities. These charities include helping children, veterans, and the com-

munity.

New Members, as well as seasoned Members; now is your chance to volunteer at the lodge and help make a difference for our chari-

ties. We need your help! If we don’t get your help, we could lose this important event for our charities. You joined the Elks for a

reason, and I don’t think it was just for the cheap drinks. So, please step up, volunteer, and have great fun while doing it.

If you’re interested, in volunteering you may contact any of the following:

Toby Griner – 850-939-3058

Patty Quinn – 850-736-1656

Tom Stevens – 850-420-5161 Again, here are the positions we’re seeking volunteers for:

Assistant Bingo Coordinator – At least 1

Callers – A total of 6 callers (would only call every six weeks)

Cooks – There is a sign up board at the lodge

Thank you for your time, and we hope to hear from you.

Respectfully and Fraternally, Tom Stevens, Esteemed Leading Knight

VOTE NOW, VOTE OFTEN!

Voting polls open from Jan. 1st – Jan 31st 2013

As Elk members, you have access to the official Grand Lodge website at www.Elks.org. Much of the in-

formation about Elks at this site is available to you and the public. However, some of the information is

for “Members Only”, and you must use a Log-in name (your choice) and a 5-digit security Code (not

your choice) to gain access to this portion of the website. Some of the site is still restricted to “secretary

only”, for example, but there is a lot of Elk information available to Elk members that are not available

to the public.

They already know who you are, what your member number is, and which lodge your are from because

the Secretary previously entered this information into their database when you joined the Elks. But you

need to establish an account to verify who you are and gain access to “member only” information.

To open this account, open the website and go to “members only”. They will ask that you give a user

name (your choice) and give a temporary security code (your choice). They will then return a perma-

nent security code to you by E-mail. Thereafter, if you access “member only” information, they will ask

for your user name and for the security code they assigned you.

The Grand lodge has decided to quit printing manuals because of the cost, so you can download any of

these manuals from the site (Adobe) once you log in. To download, you must have at least the Read ver-

sion of Adobe (this is free). A manual list is shown under MEMBERS ONLY, MANUALS. The Stat-

utes Annotated and the Guide to the Courts will be listed under the header “Judiciary”.

Hello Fellow Elk’s, our parking lot needs our help and donations. If you been to our Lodge lately I am

sure you noticed that the North end of our parking lot is looking a lot like Oklahoma with all the red

dirt and pot holes. We need to pull together and collect all our spare change and donations. If we can

raise $760.00 we will be able to bring in 15 yards of limestone which we will spread and make our park-

ing area great again. Please contact Clarke Duarte at (850) 221-6250 or visit with him at the Lodge and

we all, will be very grateful.

Elk’s Caring, Elk’s Sharing and Elk’s Having Fun!

December was a busy month for all of us here at the Lodge. Even though it was a busy

month, all had fun. One of the largest events was our Turkey Shoot and Christmas Party for the children. We had 39 children in at-

tendance along with our Physical Therapist Elizabeth Maina. Elizabeth had 4 families that came with her. We

also had six children attend from The Billory Church Bread of Life. All children received a gift from Santa with

a treat bag full of goodies. Each family received a turkey to take home as well. There were many games, a color-

ing contest, and face painting. All children had fun--you did not see any unhappy children.

It was a pleasure to meet Elizabeth and the families Elizabeth works with. It was very apparent that Elizabeth

loves the children and the children really love Elizabeth. I feel the Florida State Elks Physical Therapy is so very

fortunate to have Elizabeth on their team.

The combined Christmas Party for the Elks and Island Life Club was a great success. There were 40 in atten-

dance. It was such a success that when the DJ’s time was up, a collection was made to have him play longer. Due

to the great attendance, each Club received half the remainder from the event cover charge after the DJ was paid. I would like to thank everyone who helped with these events. Thanks to all who donated turkeys for the Turkey

Shoot and all who contributed their time and food. Without you helping and donating this could not have been a

success.

Every month we get together at least once for some good old competition. In December we put our chili hats

on and competed North against the South and East against the West to see who made the best chili and a ringer

from England beat us all with some of the best chili we have ever eaten. Congratulations to Pat Schulte Mom

Anne Schulte a current resident of San Diageo California for wining first place and Robin Stevens taking sec-

ond place.

Our Holley-Navarre Elk’s Lodge is a big supporter of our Youth ac-

tivities here locally and pictured here is Dan Hargraves presenting a

generous check of $400 to sponsor Larry Dixon President of Navarre

Youth Sports Association

Elks enjoying a great Christmas

Party along with naughty Santa

Gift giving's and some great

food and desserts. This is the

second year we’ve done this and

it has been a great crowd

pleaser and a lot of fun was had

by all. Happy New Year to eve-

ryone!
