…the question is not about will it happen anymore, it is about a holisitc
approch to adding real world value using the IoT and making a ROI
• This requires choices, choices in technology, business models, deployment,
operation and of course cost.
• Each IoT application has a different set of criteria to make it work for the end
customer – this is key to the success of IoT and will be the key driver the
HUGE number of connections.
• The time is right for INNOVATION and the opportunity is HUGE!
….. problems are waiting to be solved in our cities, in our fields, in our
factories and in our homes, LoRaWAN™ is solving these problems
TODAY, not tomorrow!
LPWA IoT - is here, now!

Who are the LoRa Alliance and what is LoRaWAN?
An open, non-profit association of Members who are COLLABORATING together to
ensure that LoRaWAN™ is THE open global standard for SECURE, CARRIER GRADE IoT
LPWA connectivity. With a CERTIFICATION PROGRAM to guarantee interoperability and
the TECHNICAL FLEXIBILITY to address the multiple IoT applications be they static or mobile.
• >460 members since March 2015 – fasted growing Industry Alliance
− Complete multi-vendor value chain at all levels – mature industry eco system
− Open business models – democratizing LPWA networks
• Low Power: long battery life for end devices up to 10 years depending on use
• Long Range: 2 – 20Km depending on environment
• ISM band license exempt spectrum
• Bi-directional, 3 device classes, roaming,

….chemical reduction in Italian vineyards
Reducing the number of chemical treatmentsused in agriculture production.
BENEFITS:
• Reducing environmental impact (man and nature)
• Saving on agronomic management costs (chemical
products snd their handling)
• Higher quality of the products
• Basis for product promotion (territorial marketing,
tracking, etc.)
In collaboration with
LoRaWAN – keeping our wine good!

…the ubiquitous connected cow
LoRaWAN - a high-tech cow-bell !
• Temperature and pedometer devices attached to cows
• Ability to detect estrus in cows with less manpower, and production milk yield increased.
• Average insemination success was improved to 1.58 attempts from 2.0-2.5 attempts.
• Average calving interval was shortened to 354 days from 402 days.
• Female cattle birth ratio increased.
• As a result, an increase of USD 645 per head per year is expected.

..pests – we don’t have pests!
LoRaWAN - a high-tech Rat Man!
• Connected mouse traps (also rats and larger pests)
• Ability to detect when trap has an occupant – no need for daily manual Inspection - “the Rat Man” can be invisible.
• Historic data indicates prone entry or infestation points.
• In practice a service company could $65K a year on 3 sites when working 200 trap PoC costs scaled up
• Pests control becomes a simple process and very discrete as occupant removal can be scheduled, less occupants were found over time.
• Health regulations are met more efficiently.

…where are my high value assets?• Tracking stock location between depots
– $40K per Drum (Large)• Rolled onto smaller drums per job• Job tickets not associated with drum• Drum could be in any depot, with any driver
– Message sent four times a day – Knowledge of entire inventory location
• $Millions saving as all inventory can be accounted for– Knowledge of stock not in depot (with driver)
• Ability to determine missing/stolen drums• Correct stock available to allocate to jobs (in inventory but
missing from the actual physical location)
• Cost of deployment recouped in a single year– Very low cost sensors <$20 made this possible
• A geo LoRaWAN - the invisible stock controller!

UK Goverment London Open Innovation Network
THINGS CONNECTED
Things Connected is an innovation support programme targeting
UK businesses who wish to leverage the capabilities of LPWAN
technologies. It will foster the emergence of a strong UK based
LPWAN ecosystem to ensure the UK is open and ready to innovate
with the Internet of Things (IoT).
Things Connected will initially provide 50 LoRaWAN base stations
across London to offer a low power wide area network testbed.
Free to use and available to IoT entrepreneurs and developers,
Things Connected will enable businesses to develop exciting and
novel IoT products and services. The programme will encourage
the deployment of sensors, applications and services to meet
some of the city’s biggest challenges.
