The State Fair is coming soon
and the Upper Midwest
Disciples of Christ is sponsoring
the daily hymn sings at First
Church in Heritage Village. Stop by at
11:30 am or 6:30 pm for an inspiring time
of singing favorite hymns and lifting our
voices together in praise to God.
Bondurant Christian Church is
hosting the hymn sing on Tuesday,
August 15 at 11:30 am. Join Pastor
Jason, Lindsay, & Merri as they lead this
time honored tradition at the State Fair.
This past July, I was blessed to be able to attend
General Assembly. The Disciples of Christ have 3 expres-
sions of the church: congregational, regional, and gen-
eral. General Assembly is the gathering of our entire
denomination for worship, business, fellowship, and
overall direction. We met in Indianapolis July 8-12.
One of the major events of General Assembly was to elect a new General Minis-
ter and President, and we did. The church elected Rev. Teresa Hord Owens.
There was a lot of build up to the election, and it was quite historic as she is
the first African-American woman to ever hold this office.
Her spiritual gifts have a great blend of business acumen, spiritual discipline,
and a pastoral presence, which will serve her well in the coming years. For such
a time as this, God has gifted us with this new leader. I would invite you to hold
Rev. Terri in prayer in the coming days and weeks as she transitions into a new
role of leadership for our church.

Back to School Supplies Needs
Summer is flying by, and there are already aisles in the stores starting to fill with school
supplies. For many homes with school-age children, shopping for school supplies is an exciting
time; however, there are also many more homes with school-age children where purchasing
school supplies is a hardship. This is where our church family comes in. We can make a differ-
ence in the life of a child and the family.
Cindy Tendall contacted Bonita Wiley (B-F School-to-Home Coordinator) and she has provided
a list of needed items. Please note! The school supplies items needed are only up to “5” of each
item to replenish the school supply cabinet. Bondurant Men’s Club has generously provided
funds to purchase school supplies for children but being able to replenish the school supply
cabinet is important so supplies are available throughout the school year for children. Before
shopping, please sign up for specific items at the back of the sanctuary starting this
Sunday (July 30th). If you are not at church, feel free to contact Tamara Schopf at the church
during office hours to see which items are available to choose from and she will sign you up for
those selected items. Otherwise, please sign up and pick up slips for what you would like
to shop for, and check off these items when you bring them to church. Note! You are
not required to purchase five of each item … only the number of items you wish.
Not interested in shopping but still want to help? Gift cards from Walmart and Target will
be gladly received to allow the school to purchase items as needed throughout the school year.
Deadline? Anytime before school starts. Whenever we fill the list of needed items, Cindy will
make sure they are delivered to the school.
Thank you to everyone for supporting this worthwhile project.
