The NAZARETH
Nazareth Story Registration No: 038-257- NPO
EDITION FIFTEEN: MARCH 2019
The official newsletter of the Sisters Of Nazareth African Region since 1883
Greetings.
Dear Sisters, Board Members, Colleagues, Donors and Friends of Nazareth
These past few months have been a roller coaster ride with many highs and lows. Some of the highs include the initiation and roll out of Nazareth Care branding, celebration of milestone birthdays and many in-house and resident achievements. The lows include the discontinuation of the clinic and hospice services provided at Nazareth House Johannesburg, and the loss of residents. May they rest in peace.
The mission of the Sisters of Nazareth has always been one that as an organisation, we need to be open and respond to the needs of the times. The reality is that such changes, although justified and required, may not always be well received by all. History and experience as always, proves that where one door closes, another will open. This is very evident in the many ministries of care provided by The Sisters of Nazareth across the African Region.
We are elated to take on new opportunities and try new things. It's being able to continually adapt to the environment that sets us apart and we will keep on trying. It is our privilege to be able to care for the most vulnerable in society and we take on this responsibility with the seriousness and compassion it deserves.
This month coming will see the launching of new partnership campaigns, HFund My Friends" and "20K Campaign with the intentional process of building sustainable, long term donor relationships that deliver consistent income to support the many Nazareth Houses and outreach programmes provided by The Sisters of Nazareth. Such initiatives build relations with our many benefactors and we look forward and appreciate working with all. Keep a look out on our social media platforms for more information in this regard.
Investing in The Sisters of Nazareth and Nazareth Care albeit in time, money, companionship or just your prayers, is investing in a noble and rewarding cause. Our objective is to be around to care for those most vulnerable for many more centuries to come.
Best wishes

A message from Sister Anne Margaret Craig Regional Superior Nazareth House African Region
I remember seeing the words written on the peak of someone's cap, which read:
"I am their leader - which way did they go?"
When I visit our Nazareth Houses around the Region, I have to admit that I am so often taken aback by the
amazing dedication and commitment going on quietly behind the scenes, often in challenging and difficult
situations. I want to thank every Sister, staff member, volunteer and benefactor, who go out of their way in
trying to improve the lives of all in our care, not only the children and elderly in Nazareth House, but also in
the various outreach projects nearby.
It is so easy to sit back in our comfort zones, to have "tunnel vision" and just continue with the basic tasks of
every day. But I see such innovative and enthusiastic ideas and plans for the future of Nazareth Care - I must
ensure that I myself am wide awake and don't get left behind! We need to take risks. Life is changing
constantly and we all have to move forward together!
Pope Francis gives us a simple formula for living:
"Live beneath your means; return everything you borrow; admit it when you make a mistake; strive for excellence, not perfection; listen more, talk less; be on time, don't make excuses; be kind to unkind people; know when to keep your mouth shut; go a whole day without criticising anyone; learn from the past, plan for the future, but live in the present!"
Wise words from a great leader. Let's do our best to follow!!
Wishing you all many blessings during this beautiful Easter Season.
Sr. Anne Margaret Craig
