Bi-Xenon lights. The optimal illuminationof the Bi-Xenon lights is enhanced by theAFS which changes the light settingdepending of the car’s speed andweather conditions. Bi-Xenon headlightsprovide 2.5 times the illumination ofhalogen headlights.

Telescopic front headlightwashers. Standard onElegance and vRS, optimiseyour front lights' range bykeeping the front panelsclean of dirt and debris.

LED Lights. The two rearbands of light creating thedistinctly ŠKODA “C” shapecan be enhanced with LED's.Standard on vRS and optionalon SE and Elegance.

Dynamic lines. Octavia hatch's unique rear window line reflects the line of an aircraft's tail fin, just a nod to the advanced technology that lies within. The window surround on all trim levels is black, chrome surround is currentlyunavailable.

Ice scraper. All Octavias come with an icescraper in the lockable fuel filler cap.

Clear halogen lights and broad fog lights can be upgraded to Bi-Xenon lightswith AFS (adaptive front light system), black cornering fog lights and LED

Adjustable driver’s seat. To allow you to get as safe and comfortable as possible, your Octavia will have a height adjustabledriver’s seat. The different trim levels thenhave additional features (some standard,some optional) such as height adjustablepassenger seat, lumbar support, electricadjustments and materials ranging fromdurable cloth through to sumptuous leather.

For maximum comfort on longjourneys, both front and reararmrests are available*. The

adjustable front armrest iscombined with a handy storage

box, whilst the rear armrestfeatures adjustable cup holders

Air conditioning. Depending on trim, your Octavia will eitherbe equipped with air conditioning or dual-zone air conditioningwith humidity control. Dual-zone allows the driver and front seatpassenger to set different temperatures for optimal comfort whilstthe humidity sensor directs the airflow as required to keep thewindscreen fog free.Steering wheels. Height and reach adjustable, high quality

leather steering wheels are standard across the Octavia range,with controls for the radio and telephone standard on Eleganceand vRS. For an added sporty feeling and drive on modelsequipped with DSG, a 3 spoke steering wheel with paddles canbe ordered, allowing you to control both entertainment and gear shift.

For those who love theirmusic, the standard 8 speaker sound systemon Octavia can be upgraded to a Cantonsound system which adds a central speakerto the dash and a subwoofer in the boot.Canton also adds a digital equaliser andsound level controls allowing spacialoptimisation for all or individual occupants,vehicle noise cancellation and when addedin combination with a ‘Columbus’ satellitenavigation, the ability to play Dolby 5.1surround sound.

Trip computers. A number of trip computeroptions are available in the Octavia range.

The comprehensive trip computer on S trimwhich details fuel consumption, averagespeed and distance until the fuel tank is

empty can be enhanced to Maxi DOT in theSE and vRS trim. Maxi DOT with its larger

display provides additional information suchthe oil temperature and details of the

vehicle’s status as well as the ability todisplay phone, audio, assistant system or

navigation data. Elegance trim furtherenhances this with a colour Maxi DOT

showing clearer, colour displays.

Bluetooth® connectivity to make hands-free calls andstream music is standard across Octavia. Unlike the

previous generations this Bluetooth® system is capableof remembering up to 20 Bluetooth® devices that havebeen previously paired including 4 phones. The internal

phone book can store 2,000 contacts for each phone,with up to 5 numbers for each contact – ensuring your

social life really is at your fingertips. For those who wantan upgraded reception or struggle with battery life,

Bluetooth®+ is available. By placing your phone in thespecial Bluetooth®+ compartment in front of the gear

The all-new infotainment systems on Octavia are a significant step forward in the field of multimediasystems. The car stereo, navigation system and trip computer are no longer standalone devices, but arewrapped up in one system giving the driver access to the vehicle setup, drive assistant systems andcomfort functions through a single device. Proximity sensors recognise when a hand is moving towardthe touchscreen and bring up the function buttons ready to be used, whilst intuitive swiping and pinchingmovements allow the user to scroll menus and zoom into maps easily.

Octavia features 7 airbags as standard, located at the front, front side,curtain and driver’s knee area. Should you wish, you can also add rear side airbags with Crew Protection Assistant.

Crew Protection Assistant, uses information from the car’s braking andelectronic systems to recognise when there is a high chance of a collision.

If this is detected, the front seatbelts will tighten and the sunroof andwindows will close (leaving a 55mm gap) to help keep the car’s occupants in

the optimum position for airbag deployment and reduce items flying into thecar. Sporty drivers who prefer to desensitise the Crew Protection Assistant

can change these settings on their touchscreen display.

Fatigue Sensor. Standard fromSE is a Driver Fatigue Sensor.This monitors the movement ofthe driver through the steeringwheel and if the driver beginsto display signs of tiredness,the car will audibly alert thedriver with a tone and show abreak recommendation alert onthe Maxi DOT.

Prefill, a smart element of the ESC system is the prefill feature. Your Octaviawill recognise when your foot has beenabruptly lifted off the accelerator andanticipates that this may be followed by a sharp depression of the brake pedal. To prepare for this braking, the carautomatically increases pressure in thebrake system by “prefilling” the brakehydraulics with fluid. It also brings thebrake pads closer to the discs. This speedsup the braking effect for optimal stopping.

ESC Electronic Stability Control isstandard in new Octavia and delivers anumber of systems to help maintain thecar’s stability in braking and emergencysituations. For information on all thefeatures within the ESC system, pleasesee page 46.

Automatic Post Collision Braking System.In the event of a crash, the Automatic Post

Collision Braking System, standard on allOctavias, will be activated. This recognises

when an impact has occurred and brakesthe car to prevent it being uncontrollablypropelled into oncoming traffic, reducing

the risk of further crashes. The car willbrake to 6mph and also activate the

hazard and brake lights.

DRIVING ASSISTANT SYSTEMS• INTELLIGENT LIGHT ASSISTANT • PARKING ASSISTANT • KESSY • LANE ASSISTANT

Intelligent Light Assistant*. Using a camera mounted behind the rear view mirror, theIntelligent Light Assistant* monitors light levels and determines what level of lighting isrequired. The car then turns on the headlights or if required, the high beams. Should anothervehicle’s lights be spotted by the camera (either in front or moving in the opposite direction) or the light levels improve sufficiently, the car will automatically turn down the high beams. To activate this function the headlight switch must be sent to “auto” and the left stalk on thesteering column be moved forwards.

Automatic Parking Assistant. For those wishing to make both parallel parking and bay parking easier than ever, an Automatic Parking Assistant canbe added to Octavia. With a press of a button, the system will begin searching for a parking space in a line of cars or other obstacles. When a suitablespace is found (the car’s length + 60cm is all the space needed), the car will steer itself into the space whilst the driver controls the pedals. Thissystem will now also steer the car out of a line of cars from its parking space and with two presses of the same button, the car will search for andmanoeuvre into a bay parking space.

Driving Mode Selection. Standardfrom SE, Driving Mode Selection

allows the driver to adapt the car’sbehaviour to their preference or

needs. Four driving modes areavailable, normal, sport, eco andindividual (allowing the driver to

configure their own settings). Thecar will then adapt the enginetorque, accelerator sensitivity,

power steering, headlight control(where AFS is fitted), DSG

transmission, and air conditioningto suit the profile selected.

Performance Mode Selection. The DrivingMode Selection has been further enhanced

for vRS with the introduction of aPerformance Sound Generator. When vRSmode is selected this will also change the

car's sound generator levels. It spreadsvibrations directly through the vehicle bodyand windscreen. The frequency and volume

is dependent on the mode selected, rotationspeed, car speed and accelerator position.

Keyless Entry and Start System (KESSY) can

be added to Octavia to allow the driver to lock

and unlock the car and start and stop the

engine without having to insert or even

handle the key. As long as the key is within

1.5m of the sensor, the system will work and

a number of clever features ensure you can

check the lock, prevent you from locking the

key inside and stop unwanted access.

Intelligent assistanceLane assistant*. The Lane assistant uses the camera behind the rear view mirror torecognise lane markings and help keep thedriver within the lane, preventing drifting and potential collisions. When adequate lanemarkings are identified the dashboard light will turn green and the car will be kept in the centre of the lane, even through corners, with small corrections of the steering wheel.Should the driver wish to move out of the lane,the system will recognise the indicator andmovement and allow the corrections tobe overridden. The system can be deactivatedpartially or fully using the touchscreen display.

ABS: the anti-lock braking systemprevents the wheels from lockingduring heavy or emergency braking,enabling the vehicle to remainsteerable. When braking, wheel speed sensors measure the roadwheel speed and should one or more wheels start to lock the systemreduces brake pressure to that wheel.

Elements of the ABS System :-• Dual Rate Vacuum Brake Boosters:

increases brake effort underemergency braking conditions.

• EBC: Electronic brake control. The engine brake torque controlregulates the power supply byintervening with the enginemanagement system.

• EBD (aka EBV): Electronic BrakeDistribution automaticallydistributes different pressures tothe front and rear brakes to stop therear wheels from locking up underheavy braking. It also compensatesfor loaded and unloaded vehiclestherefore doing away with the needfor a Load Sensing Valve on the rear axle.

CAN Bus: the CAN Bus is anelectronic data bus which links thevarious different electronic controlsystems in the car. It ensures ideal co-ordination between systems andreduces the amount of wiring neededin the car.

Fuel cut-out: should one or more ofthe airbags inflate after an accident,this system automatically cuts outthe fuel supply, thus preventingsubsequent leakage of the diesel or petrol.

Trip Computer: the trip computer notonly features an impressive range ofdata displays, operating it is simplicityitself. A multifunction touch keyenables you to call up all relevant dataon the easy-to-read display. Featuresinclude external temperature, time,current fuel consumption, averagefuel consumption, miles driven andaverage speed.

DPF: diesel particulate filter is part ofthe exhaust system responsible forcleaning the engine exhaust gasesbefore they enter the atmosphere.The DPF catches soot particlesemitted in the exhaust gas and itworks in conjunction with thecatalytic converter, which reduces the amount of harmful gases enteringthe atmosphere. The DPF mustperiodically be emptied of the sootparticles, a process known asregeneration. This involves elevatedexhaust system temperatures. A driving style is required duringregeneration, where a constantvehicle speed above 37 mph must bemaintained. This does not always suitcustomers who make frequent shortjourneys or experience stop/startdriving or drive within inner-city orurban areas.

Bi-Xenon lights: Bi-Xenon lightsproduce about 2.5 times the lightof standard Halogen lights with35% less energy consumption.

CR: All Octavia's diesel engines arebuilt on a system of Common-Rail fuelinjection. The diesel engines have ahigh-pressure common rail directinjection fuel system and four-valvetechnology. As a result, the newengines are much quieter, morerefined in their operation andconsume less fuel, compared to the Pump Duse engines availablepreviously and significantly reduceemissions.

AFS: Adaptive front light system is afeature of Bi-Xenons and allows thelight beam to adapt to the car'sspeed, direction and the weatherconditions. Urban driving emits ashorter, wider beam whilst fasterdriving emits a longer beam.Cornering function sees the beamturn up to 15 degrees in direction ofthe steering wheel's turn. The beamwill also adjust according to car load,acceleration and wet weather toprevent dazzling oncoming vehicles.

ESC: Electronic Stability Control is designed to stabilise the dynamichandling response of the vehicle bycounteracting any tendency towardsoversteer or understeer. The ESCconstantly compares the actualmovement of the vehicle withpredetermined values and accordingto the situation ESC reacts by brakingeach wheel individually (according todirection of slip) and automaticallyadjusting the engine’s output.

Elements of ESC system:-

• ASR: anti-slip regulation tractioncontrol ensures the Octavia’sstability when pulling away oraccelerating. If the engine power or torque being transmitted to the drive wheels is too great, forexample on a slippery road surface,engine torque is automaticallyreduced until optimum road holdingreturns, thus preventing wheelspin.A light indicates whether the ASRsystem is on. It can be manuallyswitched off.

• MSR: the engine torque controlsystem recognises when the wheelsare subject to too much slippageand regulates the power supply by intervening in the enginemanagement system. This preventswheelspin when, for example,changing down on a smooth or wetroad surface. MSR is a constituentpart of the ASR system.

• EDS: the electronic differential lockcontinually compares the rpm of thedrive wheels, and if it identifies adifference between them whichcould lead to an individual wheelspinning, for example if the twowheels are on different types ofsurface or accelerating on wetleaves, the system brakes the wheelaffected until uniform rpm of alldrive wheels is restored.

• HBA: Hydraulic brake assistantincreases the optimal build-up ofbrake power. It ensures complete useof the brake system potential, thusshortening the braking distance.

• DSR: Driver SteeringRecommendation – in a crisissituation it helps the driver stabilizea skid by making a slight interventionin the steering.

• ESBS: Electronic Stability BrakeSystem – targeted interventions in the braking process improve thehandling of a car as it brakes whenpassing round a bend and keeps itfrom veering.

• XDS: XDS provides neutral balance in dynamic driving whenaccelerating through corners. Byapplying a slight braking pressure onthe inner wheel, torque is increasedon the outer wheel. This preventswheel spinning and reduces anytendency to under steer, allowingthe driver to experience a moreagile, precise and calming drivingexperience with better traction outof bends.

Warranty Exclusions and limitationsWear and tear components will only be considered under the terms of thewarranty for the first of six months or 6,500 miles, whichever is soonest. These include, but are not limited to brake linings and disc pads, clutch releasebearings, clutch pressure plates and centre plates, tyres, wiper blades, seat andbackrest covers, floor coverings, spark plugs, batteries for key fobs and alarms, light bulbs and shock absorbers.

Mechanical adjustments including but not limited to adjustments to doors, flaps, boot lids, bonnets and sunroof, brake adjustment, clutch adjustment, v belt adjustment, ignition adjustment, headlight adjustment, steering geometry adjustments and wheel balancing are excluded.

Damage (including but not limited to the following) is excluded:

> Damage caused by your failure to take all reasonable steps to prevent mechanical damage from occurring.

> Damage or defects caused by not having the vehicle serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

> Damage or defects caused by improper use of the vehicle, neglect or use of the vehicle for motor sports activities.

> Damage caused by an accident.> Damage to paintwork or chrome caused by external influences,

such as climatic, chemical or industrial pollution.> Damage resulting from the use of non-original replacement parts.

Routine maintenance and servicing is not covered by the warranty. Incidental or consequential costs such as hotel charges, car hire, loss of personal effects or income are not recoverable under theterms of the warranty.

Service Intervals When you order your Octavia, you can choose whether your car is on a fixed or aflexible service regime. Your retailer will help you decide which regime suits howyour car will be driven, enabling your car to stay in the best possible shape.

Fixed regime: Service every 10,000 miles or one year (whichever comes first). This is recommended if the vehicle is likely to be used in the following way:

> Driven fewer than 10,000 miles per annum and/or> Mainly short journeys, drive mostly in towns or cities and/or> High vehicle loading/towing and frequent hill climbs and/or> Heavy accelerating and braking, using high revs

Flexible regime: Sensors in the engine detect when a service is needed. You willbe informed of this by a service light which will show at any point between 9,000and 20,000 miles, up to 24 months (whichever comes first).

The flexible service regime is recommended for vehicles with a daily mileage ofmore than 25 miles where the vehicle is driven regularly and mainly at a constantspeed with minimum vehicle and engine loading, minimal towing and driven in aneconomical manner.

To find out how much tax you will pay,simply take the P11D value, then multiplythis figure by the BiK percentage. Thensimply multiply this figure by 20% or 40%depending on the level of income tax thatyou pay.
