Harry Sharp had an excellent match. He was our BB-P, Fifth Scale Unlimited, Half Scale Unlimited, and SB-P champion. He also took High Senior and won the Ted Zysk Memorial Dragon Slayer trophy. Joe Cullison faired well also taking BB-R, BB-S, BB- US, FP-P & PAS titles. He also shot the highest Big Bore & Small Bore 3 & 4 Gun Aggregates & took home the Iron Man award. Scott Hull took the Air Pistol UAS championship and Paul Hoadley was our Air Pistol US champion. Dan Hagerty took the BB-U title in a nice shoot-off. THE NEW SILHOUETTERLeatherlockTM Deluxe TakedownShotgun CaseBy Ken Horowitz

I have lots of gun cases, including my very first which isprobably older than most of my readers.Although I don't use it much, that soft-sided case is still functional with azipper that actually works. While softsided cases are sometimes moreconvenient and compact than hardcases, travelling between States I like tohave something that locks and none ofmy soft cases permit that. So, over theyears, my abundant collection of softcases have been set aside in favor ofhard cases for travel.

In hard cases, I have everythingfrom low-end cases that cost just a fewbucks (I once picked up a bunch ofthem for about 20¢ on the dollar at aclearance when Dick's Sporting Goodstook over another store) up to an airlinequality brick $%#&house case thatwould probably support an elephant. This latter one is so heavy that it haswheels to support its heft and the tworifles it can carry.

While I've always looked atcases for simple functionality and theability to comply with laws whentravelling interstate, I do feel a bitunderstated when it comes to carryingan expensive gun in a utility case. While Dom Perignon may taste just asgood from a plastic cup as it does fromthe finest crystal, there's something justnot right with doing that.

Sporting Clays is the onlydiscipline in which I've spent 4 digits ofcash for a firearm, every other firearmthat I own costing less than the $1,000mark (in most cases, much less). Mymost expensive shotguns include a 12gauge Browning Over-Under and aRuger 28 gauge Over-Under with fulllength Briley inserts for 410 Bore. AsOver-Unders, both are takedownmodels and the Browning, with its 32"barrels, must be taken down for travelsince it is too long for any of my cases. When I take the Browning to matches, Ihave to carefully make sure that the twoparts do not touch in order to avoidscratches and other damage during

travel. Additionally, I have to do thesame with the case full of choke tubes.Observing many other participants, ithas always seemed much easier forthem to pack their shotguns in theirfitted cases. The cases also lend a bit ofclass to their acts. Often I've said tomyself that I would get such a case, butI always thought them to be a bit on thepricey side.

Now I've discovered theLeatherlockTM Deluxe TakedownShotgun Case by Birchwood Casey. Itwill do everything that a case should do,including providing protection and theability to be locked duringtransportation. It's specifically designedfor takedown shotguns andaccommodates a 32" barrel withcompartments to separate the pieces ofthe firearm as well as providingseparate areas for accessories such aschoke tubes. As well, it looks great!

Inside each section the shotgunis protected by plush fabric over foamthat adequately secures each piece. Tiedown straps secure the stock while thebarrel, with forend attached, lays withinpadded brackets. A large additionalcompartment is more than adequate forchoke tubes and other accessories. Ikeep all my choke tubes for myBrowning in a two sided fishing lurebox that will fit in the case with room tospare.

The outside has art meetingscience with its faux leather coveringand brass finished hinges, latches andcorners. If you told me this was realleather and if I had not verified with amagnet that the metal parts were actualferrous, I could not tell the difference. The brass finish has that nice agedpatina reminiscent of African doublegun cases back in the day. This case isreally a class act and worthy of carryinga shotgun that cost thousands of dollars.

The price of this class act issurprisingly low. The list price is$145.80. With just a couple of clicks, Ifound several sites pushing closer to$100 and after a few minutes, foundtwo sites under $100, delivered. Youcan also get the LeatherlockTM

Takedown Shotgun Case in a lightercolor or with a canvas finish.

Turning to another subject, while on vacation recently I stopped bya Wal-Mart in Florida (I forgot mybathing suit) and while there, checkedout the ammo situation. The displaywas nicely filled with just about everycenterfire round that you'd expect in abig box store. While not all brandswere represented in every chambering, the stock was fairly complete. Therimfire story was different: All I sawwere 10 boxes each of 22 Magnum and22 CB Shorts. There was not a singleround of 22LR. While centerfireammunition seems to have stabilized, the 22LR situation continues.

IHMSA Annual Delegates Meeting 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Nancy LaCroix at 8:07 PM in the club house of the Los Angeles Gun Club.

With 18 members present, it was determined that a quorum was not present. The Secretary/Treasurer said the meeting could be held but not have anybinding votes according to the bylaws. Mr. LaCroix made a motion that we dispense with the quorum. Jared Richards seconded. The motion passedunanimously.

A motion was made by Mr. Dell Taylor to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the Meeting from 2014 as they were previously published in theIHMSA News. The motion was seconded by Mr. Ken LaCroix. The motion passed unanimously.

President’s Report –Nancy LaCroix• The current registrations for the 2015 World Championships show that 470 guns will be shot by 60 shooters.• At this point, there are 1379 members of IHMSA.• The Board passed that all shooters will continue to get a trophy during the World Championships however there will be a box to check during

pre-registration to not get a plaque as some do not want the plaque.• The Board passed a resolution that any industry supporter will be sent a printed copy of the IHMSA News once a year to keep the

Association’s name in front of the supporters.• The Board passed a resolution that $1000 plus the proceeds of the Pelican Cases silent auction be allocated to help cover the costs for the

chairman of the Industry Relations committee to attend the SHOT show. This is in line with what has been done for several years to helpdefray the costs of the Industry Relations chair to represent the IHMSA at the SHOT show. John Richards will take over as chairman of theIndustry Relations committee. Steve Martens will also be attending the SHOT Show.

• 2015 World Championshipso A bid has been received from the Oklahoma City Gun Club.o The proposed dates are 15 – 22 July 2016.o The Board is awaiting a proposal of the expected costs before accepting the bid.o Ft. Stockton is an alternative location.

• A two year trial of a 500 meter Big Bore match has been approved by the Board.o This can be a press release for the SHOT show which should interest the Industry.o IHMSA is currently looking at the ranges that can support the match.o As a side note, members should contact other ranges that have ceased to offer matches to see if they still have targets that could be

passed along to ranges that want to start shooting silhouettes.o One of the rules will be that these 500 meter categories are always an optional match.o Though only a rather small group has shot the 1000 yard match in Sundance, the match has received publicity. IHMSA may be able

to get some similar publicity.o It was brought up that IHMSA might get more publicity for offering cowboy rifle as a category. There are large number of

participants. This is often offered at matches, but IHMSA does not get sanction fees from it. The incoming president, Steve Martens, would like to hear any proposal on that.

• The LASC shotgun range mentioned that they are doing their memberships on a monthly basis vs. an annual membership. The range is able tokeep members better this way. This is something that IHMSA could consider. The membership for the LASC shotgun range is a reoccurringcharge on the credit card.

o It could be a challenge keeping up with the member cards.o Need to see what kind of work this would be for volunteer headquarters.o This proposal would mean that someone has to take action to end their membership.

A discussion was held on the idea of having walk on shooters at the World Championships.• J.R. is going to put together a proposal.• This would be for people who are not members of IHMSA.• Like shooters who walk onto a NRA match, the shooters would have to compete in the International class and would have to buy an IHMSA

membership.• IHMSA would want to think of ways to get them to continue their membership once the year has expired.

Physically Challenged (PC) Program Report – Cindy Smith• No one has contacted Ms. Smith for a physically challenged (PC) card this year. Therefore, no PC cards have been issued this year.

Vice President’s Report – Dave Smith• The TV program Shooting USA was invited to this World Championship, but they wanted something closer to their locale.

Secretary/Treasurer Report – Warren Alkire• Nothing to report.

Region 1 Report● Allan Olsen, the Region 1 director, was unable to attend the World Championships, so there was no Region 1 report.

Region 2 Report – Allen Gaskin, Director● Allen Gaskin, the Region 2 director, was unable to attend the World Championships, so there was no Region 2 report.

Page 12: The Official Publication of the International Handgun ... · The Official Publication of the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association, Inc. ... Dan Bucks took the Long

Region 3 Report – Brian Gildea, Director• Region 3 has gotten a range back in Indiana. This is the Knox club.• The region is giving away an Anschutz clone at the East Coast Championships for new shooters that have signed up in the region this year.• If the IHMSA considered offering a small scholarship to students, this might help interest some of the younger people. For Mr. Gildea’s

daughter, mention of IHMSA on some scholarship applications gave an opportunity to discussion IHMSA in school settings.• Everyone was invited to attend the East Coast Championships.

Region 4 Report – Jim Fields, Director• Jim Fields, the Region 4 director, was unable to attend the World Championships, so there was no Region 4 report.

Region 5 Report –Ken LaCroix, Director• No new ranges in the region, but none were lost which is positive.• There is someone who will likely step into the director’s position when Mr. LaCroix steps down. Mr. LaCroix has been Region 5 director for

many years dating back to when Elgin Gates was president of IHMSA.• The region has experienced many shooters that only shoot locally, but don’t join because they don’t shoot at other matches.

Region 6 and Evaluation Report – Dell Taylor, Director• Hawaii is having matches but all the shooters are seniors.• Still have matches in Arizona.• Utah has no ranges.• Idaho down to 1 range (lost one range), but the last match was 82 guns and a number were lever action rifle which is an illustration of the

point made earlier about lever action rifles.• Nothing in Guam in years.• Nevada has its own little enclave that keeps shooting.

Region 7 Report – Joe Cullison, Director• There is nothing that prevents the match director from sending in a sanction fee for lever guns.• The region is steady, some ranges in Oregon are dwindling a bit.• Washington has a few, faithful shooters. Lot of rifle shooters – not many shooting IHMSA.

Region 8 Report – Dave Smith, Director• Lost shooters and gained shooters.• Doing what they can to promote it• North Dakota range that was just coming up last year is now going strong.

Australian Director – Russell Mowles• Sporting Shooters Australia Association wants IHMSA, Australia to come into the Association under the SSAA umbrella.

o There will be a vote at the Australian National Championships regarding folding IHMSA, Australia into the SSAA.o Little will change other than funding. IHMSA, Australia can no longer afford to send teams to the World Championships.o Expect under SSAA that at least some funding will continue to send an Australian team to the World Championships.

• The Australian National Championships will be the 35th anniversary match and will be in the national capitol. This should be a good match.

Brazil Report – Don Fraiser, Director• Don Fraiser, the Brazilian Director, was not at the Delegate’s meeting, so there was no Brazil report.

Paraguay Report.• The Paraguayan Director was not at the Delegate’s meeting, so there was no Paraguay report.

New Business• There was a discussion about the disappointment in the lack of participation in the Los Angeles World Championships from other regions.

This was especially true for Region 4 which was the host for the last World Championships.• The IHMSA Board needs shooter comments on the practical hunter categories and the rules. The desire is to finalize the rules and have them

printed in the rule books for 2016.• Jim Kesser mentioned a proposal to change the World Championships to a 60 round match.

o There has been resistance in the past, but there may now be less resistance.o With the number of categories, there is less reason to feel that someone drove a long way and only got to shoot 2 40 round matches.o A 60 round match may allow people to shoot more guns in fewer days.o The big advantage may be the ability to shorten the duration of the World Championships.o This is something to consider with the current numbers of shooters.

A motion was made by Dell Taylor to adjourn. The motion was seconded by John Richards. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting wasadjourned at 8:57 PM.

IHMSA Board of Directors Meeting 201511 July 2015

Present:, Nancy LaCroix (President), Dave Smith (Vice President), Warren Alkire (Secretary/Treasurer), Kenneth LaCroix (Region 5 Director), DellTaylor (Region 6 Director), Joe Cullison (Region 7 Director), Don Frasier (Brazil Director), Russell Mowles (Australia Director), Cindy Smith(Physically Challenged Manager and Headquarters), Dan Hagerty (Newsletter Editor), Steve Martens (President elect), John Richards (IndustryRelations).

1. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM Pacific Daylight Time by Ms. LaCroix.2. President’s report

a. As of today, IHMSA Membership is 1579. This is an increase of about 100 memberships in the last six months.b. As of 11 July 2015 there are 56 shooters and 410 entries for the World Championshipsc. President’s award nominations are requested in writing to Ms. LaCroix by 8:00 am 13 July 2015. The person’s name and a paragraph

about the reason for the award should be submitted.d. Sierra Sportsman’s award nominations should be delivered in writing to Ms. LaCroix by 8:00am 13 July 2015. This award is to honor

individuals/persons who go above the call of duty to ensure a successful World Championship.3. Newsletter Editor’s report – Dan Hagerty

a. Have had some challenges in delivery of the primarily electronic newsletter.b. Working on trying to get mailing lists and email lists.c. Challenge getting match reports.

i. They come in multiple formats.ii. Some clubs send all reports at the same time instead of as the matches occur.iii.Trying to come up with a format that will make it easier for the match directors as well as the newsletter editor.iv.Working on getting all the forms in electronic format. Ms. Cindy Smith pointed out that they are online. Right now they are

in one file and the desire is to get each individual form available electronically.v. Working on getting the list of non-U.S. shooters ready.

1. Currently, the IHMSA News should be sent to the Brazilian Director who will then forward to the members. Therewas a discussion of which are the current members. Mr. Fraiser and Ms. Smith will work on this issue after themeeting.

d. Trying to get the newsletter back to more news and information. Jim Harris has given his permission to reuse any articles from theold Silhouette Report.

e. The regional directors should work with the match directors to get the match reports in a timely manner. For instance, Mr. Hagertyhas not received any reports from Region 1 since January.

f. There was a discussion of getting the membership and email lists up to date. Ms. Smith and Mr. Hagerty have been working on asystem, but it may not be totally up to date until a full renewal cycle has completed.

4. Old Businessa. A discussion on the proposal which was passed last year to offer to old members (e.g. a member from the last 5 years) a one year,

free limited membership. This did not get implemented, so it is getting addressed again.i. Ms. Smith and Ms. LaCroix have worked on producing a list of these users that needs to be reviewed with Mr. Martens.ii. Though this was passed last year by the Board, several Board members objected to implementing this proposal because of

giving away free memberships.5. New Business

a. IHMSA Membership – Proposals from Steve Martens of ways to increase the value of an IHMSA membership.i. Dues: have a $25.00 web edition membership. This would keep the membership with the printed edition of IHMSA News at

$50.00.ii. This could also be tied to requiring authentication to get the IHMSA News from the web site. This way, the newsletter is a

member benefit and not free to anyone who is not a member.iii.Many on the Board thought that the membership should be reduced to no more than $35.iv.After discussion, more information is needed to decide on implementation.

b. Send printed copies of the IHMSA News to Industry manufacturers, magazines and writers once a year to keep the IHMSA News outin front of them.

i. Mr. LaCroix made a motion and Mr. Cullison seconded that we send a printed copies of IHMSA News to any business thatdonates at least $100 worth of door prizes.

ii. The motion passed with only 1 objection.c. Ad Rates

i. Review ad rates. Perhaps have one rate for web only that is cheaper and one rate for printed IHMSA News that is thetraditional price.

ii. Talk to Jeff Bell to see if it is possible to have the advertisers’ ads appear next to the corresponding web pages.d. Suggest that all renewals come due one time

i. There is concern about the time demands placed on Headquarters for that one month.ii. Since this will be a larger burden for an all volunteer headquarters, perhaps there should be some compensation to

headquarters personnel for that one month.iii.Need to decide what to do with new members.

1. One rate up to World Championships and a smaller amount for the rest of the year.2. Perhaps a larger amount that will be the remainder of this year plus the following year.

iv.Ms. Smith will need to do some research to determine if it is possible to do this during one month. Ms. Smith will get backto Mr. Martens.

e. Update the Life membership listing. Some members may be deceased.

Page 14: The Official Publication of the International Handgun ... · The Official Publication of the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association, Inc. ... Dan Bucks took the Long

i. There was some discussion of how to do this among the Board.ii. Ms. Smith said there is now the ability to review on a web site.

f. Mr. Martens proposed a two year trial on the 500 meter Big Bore silhouette.i. This will be good for promotional purposes with manufacturers and some of the gun writers.ii. Can’t get the major magazines to write an article unless IHMSA places a full page ad. Since we don’t have the money to

afford a full page ad, not much has been written about handgun silhouette in the gun press recently.iii.Mr. LaCroix made a motion for a 2 year trial of 500 meter Unlimited and Unlimited Any sight. Mr. Cullison seconded. The

motion passed unanimously.g. Mr. Martens said that Bob Baker from Freedom Arms are willing to come up with an annual revolver trophy based on the revolver

shooters throughout the year. Mr. Martens will inform the Board of what is worked out regarding the details of what the award is aswell as the criteria for the award. A certificate signed by the President and Mr. Baker and possibly a little something from FreedomArms are likely options.

h. Mr. Martens suggested checking with Mr. Taylor regarding the proposal for Sierra and Starline to provide shirts to the members ofthe team representing the USA.

i. Tusco Range and targets.i. IHMSA needs to discuss with the Tusco club to either pull the IHMSA targets or pay for the targets. A value would need to

be determined for the targets if the option is to charge the club for them.ii. If the targets are pulled from Tusco, they should go to Ft. Stockton.

1. There will be transportation costs.2. It is likely that Ft. Stockton would install the big bore auto reset without charging IHMSA.

j. Remaking of the Membership card. The Board looked as an example from the Australian Membership Card.k. Discussion of the probable change of the affiliation for the Australian shooters.

i. The affiliation would change to Sport Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA).ii. There will be a discipline chairman which would initially be Mr. Mowles and that chairman would serve as the IHMSA

Board Member from Australia.iii.The discipline will be called “IHMSA”.iv.IHMSA will need to reply to the SSAA letter granting the change of affiliation.

l. Discussion of giving the trophy plaque for all shooters that attend the World Championships.i. The current process was implemented as a cost saving measure since everyone was usually getting at least 1 trophy per

shooter and this reduced it to 1 plaque.ii. The current situation is a bit like kids leagues where everyone is getting a trophy.iii.Some are not interested in another plaqueiv.Mr. Fraiser made a motion that we continue to have a plaque per shooter. Mr. Mowles seconded.

1. Mr. LaCroix proposed that the motion be amended to allow shooters during registration to indicate that they did notwant the trophy and the registration fee will be reduced accordingly. Mr. Cullison seconded the amendment. Mr.Fraiser accepted the amendment to the motion.

2. The motion passed unanimously.m. World Championship Committee.

i. Members would include the local liaison for the current World Championships and the local liaison for the club that isawarded the next World Championships along with the President and Industry Relations Chair.

ii. The President will be the chair of the committee.iii.The idea is to give continuity from year to year in putting on the World Championships.iv.Mr. Martens will write a job description for the committee and get back to the Board.

n. Revise the pre-registration process and the software for managing the World Championships.i. The current software is 20 years old and does not support Practical Hunter.ii. Pre-registration will allow the scheduling of shooters times and categories as well as being able to specify no trophies.iii.Discussion tended to be that a new program is needed. People that have been involved with doing the Stat House for the

World Championships should be involved in defining the requirements.o. The Board received a bid from the OKC Gun Club to hold the World Championships 15 – 22 July 2015. A final decision on

accepting the bid will be tabled until information about the costs can be received.p. Mr. Taylor made a motion to give the chairman of the Industry Relations $1000 plus the proceeds from the silent auction for the

Pelican cases toward the expenses of attending the SHOT Show. Mr. Smith seconded. Discussion included the point that this wouldnot completely cover the costs of representing IHMSA as the SHOT show. The motion passed.

6. Mr. LaCroix moved that Dell Taylor serve as the nominations officer for the upcoming year. Mr. Fraiser seconded. The motion passedunanimously.

7. The Board appointed Dell Taylor, Dave Smith and Joe Cullison to serve as the Protest Committee for the 2015 World Championships.8. The meeting was adjourned at 9:18 pm.

Started off PAS exactly the same with 29 of the first 30, but thistime I ended up with a nice 39.

Not too bad for my home swaged, 22 rimfire jacketed, 65grlead tip bullets from my Hornets.”

Great shooting Joe! Those homemade bulletsobviously work pretty well!

We had a nice comfortable sized crowd for our April match and along withsuperb weather, some decent scores were shot. David Heintz was able tograb his second leg into UAS-INT using his Ruger Charger. Congrats David.Brother Philip scored his usual 40X40 in Practical Hunter Short Course withhis T/C 22 Hornet. I managed to squeeze a 40X40 out of my UnlimitedAnschutz. We were also glad to see Richard West and Cliff Johnson shootwith us today. The usual gang of NRA Cowboy silhouette shooters weren’there today. They were in Texas for the State Championship there. Weather continues to plague us at Top Shot. For the third match in a row we had rainto contend with. We share this match date with the NRA Cowboy Lever Action gangand it’s a good thing we do or I would have again been the only attendee. Two NRAshooters helped keep the line somewhat busy. I fired three guns and the rifle shootersadded 6 more scores.

A small but dedicated group of shooters were on hand for our match today. Longtimemember Van Hutches came down from Bossier City to shoot a couple of entries andnon-member Bruce Finley came by and fired three guns, as did I. Van let a UAS40X40 slip away, barely missing his 8th ram. Bruce had two new handguns to try, anExemplar in UAS and a Ruger 22/45 in Production. He also fired a SmallboreCowboy Rifle entry. I’m still trying to dial in my newest iron sighted High Standardin Practical Hunter and ended with a decent 34X40. All the scores are as follows.

This Saturday we had our best turnout since we began conducting matches here atTop Shot last October. Seven shooters completed a total of eleven entries if youinclude the NRA Cowboy Rifle shooters. IHMSA Region Two Director Allen Gaskinmade his first appearance here and fired a couple of entries. In Unlimited he used his7BR Defiance for a 39X40. Then with his BF 270 Max he managed to topple 36. WillKirste, using a custom fast twist XP in 221 Fireball, hit all 40 animals in UAS but losta single ram with a good center hit. I was spotting for him and the ram swayed butdidn’t fall. Brother Philip was with us today and also scored 39 in UAS although hehit all 40 with his XP in 300 Whisper. His “miss” was the result of a late shot on a

Page 19: The Official Publication of the International Handgun ... · The Official Publication of the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association, Inc. ... Dan Bucks took the Long

pig. He then re-entered UAS with his MGM Contender 223 to get some sight settingsfor a new load. The result was a 34 with several hit targets that didn’t fall. I attemptedUAS Half Scale with cast bullets and could only manage a 30X40. In Unlimited withmy XP 7BR and cast I did a little better with a final tally of 35X40. I’m sorry to admitthat I was so tired from setting targets and running the match that I neglected to getthe scores of the NRA Rifle shooters. Thanks to all who attended today.

We had a great turnout for our May match at our small range with five shootersposting eleven entries. My brother Philip was the first gun on the line today. His Ruger Charger yielded a40X40 in UAS. Allen Gaskin fired three guns. In the Revolver category his FreedomArms delivered a 32X40. Then using his Anschutz in Unlimited his score was 37X40.His BF Production gun gave him problems and the result was a DNF. Will Kirste shota UAS 32X40 with an Anschutz. His wife Brenda then stepped up and bested himwith a 34X40 in UAS. Non-Member Bruce Finley used an Anschutz in UAS to post ascore of 36X40. I fired the only Practical Hunter entry using an iron sighted HighStandard Trophy and managed a 33X40. I tried the NRA Smallbore Cowboy Riflegame using an old Remington 550 and squeaked out a 23X40. I did manage to cleanthe last bank of rams. Bruce Finley showed me how the rifle game is supposed to beplayed posting a 39X40 with his Marlin 39. His only miss was a pig with the shotgoing just under the belly. In NRA Hunter Pistol Bruce used a scoped Ruger Chargerand finished with a very respectable 32X40. Many thanks go to my cousin Lanny forshowing up at lunchtime and providing us with home cooked barbeque pork ribs andalso chipped beef sandwiches. It was awesome and everyone enjoyed and appreciatedit. Thanks also to Bruce, Brenda, and Will for staying till the end to help me pick upthe targets.

We had great weather for our April match. A bit chilly for some tastes butoverall a real nice day. Herb Dalton called the line for the first half of the day,and it was great as it gave me a chance to shoot. Twenty two shooters toedthe line and put forth their best effort. Perhaps the wind got in the way ofthose wanting to shoot that perfect score. Many came close with several39x40 and 38x40s turned in. Jonathan Moore had a good day on the Field Pistol Targets. With hisSmith and Wesson Revolver he shot a 30x40 in Production class and a 29x40

Page 20: The Official Publication of the International Handgun ... · The Official Publication of the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association, Inc. ... Dan Bucks took the Long

in Production Any sight class. With his Production entry he got a match leginto International class. Melvin Calliham also did well on the same targets; heshot a 32x40 in Production and a 29x40 in Production Any Sight. Greatshooting gents! Kurt Terry got a match leg in Field Pistol Production and his wife Amy gota match leg in Smallbore Unlimited Any sight. The most important competition of the day occurred at lunch. In additionto the venison burritos we had for lunch we had also prepared three yellowcakes with chocolate icing. One cake was a Pillsbury product another was byDuncan Hines and the last by Betty Crocker. I did my best to followmanufacturer directions to keep the playing field level. The shooters wereasked to try each of the cakes and select their favorite. Like load developmentor selecting the best ammo for your smallbore gun we want impartial results.Betty Crocker got ten votes, Duncan Hines got six and Pillsbury got two. So atleast on our range Betty Crocker is the shooter’s favorite. Next month we will be hosting the Georgia State match. We will beshooting on May 5th, 6th and 7th. As usual that will have the 200yd rangeclosed during those times. Sorry for the inconvenience. It will be a 60 roundmatch instead of the usual 40. So if you are coming bring plenty of ammo anda good set of eyes. SB - StandingsSB

We decided to start the Field Pistol and Practical Hunter StateChampionship on Friday since 5 guns were required for the wholematch. It took a while to get the targets set and get started but theweekend went very well. On Friday, we had one of our originaltarget setters, Dallas, and Saturday, Gunner and Zack. They all did agreat job and were greatly appreciated. There were 6 shooters who competed for the Field Pistolchampionship and 4 for the Practical Hunter with some partialentries and several other categories since we had all of the targetsset. A total of 11 IHMSA members shot 45 guns and we had ayoung guest, Aiden (10 years old) shoot 5 guns. Several shootersgot a leg up to the next class: Jim got 1 leg up, Marty got 2 andLarry got a leg up in 3 categories - excellent shooting. Marty tookthe shoot-off in FP-PAS over Don after they each shot 3 chickens at75 yards. Don ran out of bullets. Henry won the shoot-off for FP-PA over Jim on the Pigs. by Donald Camus The South Carolina Small Bore and Fifth Scale StateChampionship started a day early to accommodate some shooterswho could not stay until Sunday. The weather was good in general, probably the coolest days since the spring with temperatures in thelower 80's. Actually, Sunday morning was quite cool to the pointwhere some were wearing light jackets. We had a much smaller turnout than expected since severalregulars were not able to make it for health reasons. We are hopingthat all is going well and we have them back soon. There were just 8shooters who entered 41 guns. Several scores were 2 classes abovethe shooter's class and in one case 3 classes up, great shooting Larryand Doug. Target setters Zack and Mathew did a good job keeping thematch moving. That saves us a lot of time and energy. Thanks toeveryone who came out to make the weekend such a success. The South Carolina Big Bore and Half Scale StateChampionship had very mixed weather. It rained so hard Saturdaythat it held up the match for more than an hour because we could notsee the Turkeys and Rams. For a few minutes we could barely seethe Pigs. Once we were able to start, it continued raining for severalhours but we still managed to each shoot several guns. As bad asSaturday's weather was, Sunday's was just the opposite, a little coolin the morning but no rain and it warmed up by the afternoon. Because of the rain, there were a lot of rung targets includingRams, Turkeys, Pigs and even a Half Scale Ram that didn't fall witha center hit. The 8 shooters who braved the weather shot 37 gunswith 3 competing for the State Championship and coveted Iron Manawards. Since this was the final State Championship match of theseason, the scores are in for the Superman award, the shooter withthe highest combined scores from all of the state championships,Small and Big Bores, Fifth and Half Scales and Practical Hunter andField Pistol. Without targets setters, I am afraid that Saturday would havebeen a wash out but our long-time target setters, Dallas and Gunner, did a great job. Thanks to everyone who came out to make theweekend such a success. Shooting steel is better with friends.

May 14, 2016 We had perfect weather for the match which included a specialoccasion. Several months ago, a long-time IHMSA shooter andMatch Director, Larry Funderburk passed. During this May match, the recently added shelter at the IHMSA range was dedicated to hismemory. His wife, Faye, and step-son, Josh, were on hand for thededication along with several longtime shooters and friends. Severalpeople shared stories featuring Larry’s kindness, honesty anddedication to the shooting sports. It was an emotional time witheveryone expressing fond memories of Larry over lunch. We had 10 regular members and 3 Junior members shoot 25guns. Melvin shot a 40 and Shane a 39 both in BB-U. The Juniorsshot their first entries in PH22 with Katie getting an INT class,Kassie a high AAA and Eryn a very respectable AA.Congratulations to everyone. Target setters Gunner and Randy (firsttimer) did a great job and kept the match moving. Thanks toeveryone for coming out to share this time with us . . . Shooting steelis better with friends.

By Jim KesserThis was the first real test of the reset targets and they worked wonderfully. We had a greatturnout even with cold temps and high winds. We had 15 shooters and 30 entries and wewere done by 3:30. The new resets really speed things up and allow the prolific shooters toshoot an extra gun that they might not have done before. We had some fantastic scores as well. Bill Urbank shot a great 100 club score in small borewith a U:40,P:39 and S:24 for a total of 103. He had good shootoffs as well. I may have tomake those shootoffs a little smaller as Gordon lash shot the first ever 40+10 on out newsetup. Congrats Gordie! On the field pistol side I decided I like the new resets as well with a60 club score of 70 with a P:34 and PAS:36. 6/11/2016Pretty Good match and we got some Bugs ironed out of the reset targets. The competitionwas very even this month with the classes of shooters. It was nice to see some real head tohead competition. Carl Skidmore snagged top honors in FP-P and snuck back into the 60club with a combined 61. Rich Baird smoked in PAS with a 35 and John Maple said heCannot figure out how he can hit 4 shootoffs and miss big targets. On the 1/5 scale side Richwon the match and Gordon was Cruising till he got to rams. Gordon Made up for it in SB-UAS with a 40+9. And that was the only perfect score for the match. Bob Ochs edged StevePowell by one shootoff in SB-U, 39+5 to 39+4. We had great weather for our first match of the year with temps in the 60’s light wind andaround 30 entries for the match. Several good scores shot after the long Ohio winter breakwith Lynn Schultz firing the only 40 in BB-UAS. Gordon Lash had a close 39 in half size ashe continues to tune his 221 fireball. Great weather for our first match of 2016, sunny and warm (sorry Steve!)Attendance was reasonable despite a local Bullseye League final causing a few absences.Three perfect scores posted, two of them in BB UAS where the resulting shoot offs resultedin Lorena beating her Dad yet again!!Highlight of the day for me was my 10 year old grandson Ronan shooting through the Small Bore course with the Ruger Charger my daughter and I acquired over the winter, he shot through at the end of the match (using the bipod) and recorded a respectable 16.Had a few new shooters turn out, now just need a way to persuade them to join IHMSA.Big Bore Results:P-AA Sandy Ball TC 7mmTCU 27R-AA Murray Anderson FA 44Mag 26U-INT Pete Durrant TC 7mmTCU 35US-AAA Gerald Catt TC 30Herrett 13UAS-INT Lorena Niemi TC 30-30 40/4UAS-AAA Gerald Catt TC 7.62X39 32Small Bore Results:P-AA Gerald Catt TC 14U-AAA Lorena Niemi Anschutz 32US-A Gerald Catt TC 18UAS-INT Pete Durrant TC 22LR 40Field Pistol Results:P-INT Sandy Ball TC 22Hornet 17P-AAA Joe Leslo TC 357Mag 12

Well I don’t think we have ever had such lousy weather for our May match, we had amixture of rain, sleet, snow and ice pellets along with a gusty wind. This likely accountedfor the very light turn out of shooters!Only one perfect score posted for the match so no shoot offs, not had this for a long time,it was close but Lorena let two Rams get away unscathed!!Good to see Ric Olsen on the line after a long absence.Looking forward to our traditional Father’s Day match in June, hopefully it will be warmer.Big Bore Results:P-AA Sandy Ball TC 7mmTCU 19R-AA Murray Anderson FA 44Mag 24U-INT Pete Durrant TC 7mmTCU 40U-AAA Lorena Niemi XP-100 7mmBR 38Small Bore Results:UAS-INT Pete Durrant TC 22LR 38UAS-AA Ric Olsen TC 22LR 11Field Pistol Results:P-INT Sandy Ball TC 22Hornet 17PAS-AA Dale Millar TC 357Mag 16

BY BOB CURRYBefore I do anything else, I want to reiterate the two fundamental rules of silhouetteshooting:

1) Misses are never the spotter’s fault.2) The weather is never the Match Director’s fault.

The usual suspects showed up and shot the (mostly) usual guns. Brett Dunlap got his firstproduction 40, using a very high-mileage MOA Maximum in 7br. Bob Doherty and JackWade couldn’t settle short-range practical hunter until Jack ran out of ammo. They both shot40 + 10 using half-scale pigs as shootoff targets. They then switched to half-scale turkeys, whereupon Jack hit four with his last 4 bullets for 4x5. Bob was better supplied, and shot8x10. You decide. I am tired enough of being blamed for the weather. Fred Hornbaker got40 on the teeny targets, and we had a Spanish-American War reenactment in the military boltrifle category, with a Krag and a Spanish Mauser tied at 26. Caramba!

It threatened rain all day, getting darker and darker as the day went on. Still, most of theusual stalwarts stuck it out. We were all glad to see that Chris Dunlap had his bionic arm outof the sling, and was able to shoot a couple of guns. David Glass shot in his first match ofthe season, and got forty with his cast bullet unlimited gun. I spotted, and there were veryfew hits out of the central body area. David also won the UASHS shootoff against BobDoherty. He hit 4x5 on the first bank, and didn’t need to shoot a second one. Our halfscaleshootoff targets are smallbore-size chickens at 200, and are quite challenging.

It finally poured around 2:00, so Bob and Larry Jackson decided the UAS Int winner with acoin flip, and Larry called it correctly. Then Bob got soaking wet downrange trying to getthe targets out. Not really one of his better days.

LINWOOD, KS,JUNE 12, 2016

BY BOB CURRY

It was blazing hot with very little breeze for the Kansas Bigbore Championship.Once again, I hasten to point out Rule Number Two: The weather is not the matchdirector’s fault. In fact, the match director is pleased to announce that he sufferedfrom the heat just as much as any of you other yahoos. It was only after a coolshower and several cool beverages that he was able to produce this report.

The traditional four-gun aggregate was won by Brett Dunlap. He did it the hardway: The MOA served for production and unlimited, and a Ruger .44 magnumtook care of revolver and standing. Bob Curry won the standing aggregate, andDavid Glass the half-scale aggregate. Bob Doherty won the long range practicalhunter event. Jim Luke won cowboy rifle with a Marlin 30-30, and Bob Currywon the military bolt rifle event with a Krag carbine.

Next month, the field pistol and smallbore events will again be in play. Hope tosee you there.

We had a total of 37entries for our November match, not bad turn-out forthe last match of 2015, & the weather wasn't bad for this time of year inOklahoma, a little windy but again not too cold..There were a total of (18) 40x40s shot in this match. This is indeed a lotof perfect scores for a monthly match. See all the results below.During the coming winter we are going to install an auto-reset targetsystem on our 500 meter range. After this project is complete, our entirebig-bore targets will be auto-reset from 50 meters all the way out to 500meters. The 500 meter course will be an IHMSA sanctioned event startingthe 2016 seasonThanks to everyone who helped with our match, you are appreciated&especially our target setters. That's about it for now, so shoot safe, shoot straight & the good Lord willing, see you next year, March 3rd, 2016 to be exact.BIG BORE:R-AAA Woody Liddell DW357Max 25U-INT Scott Thompson XP5.6TCU 40+7UAS-INT Jackie Brown XP223 40 Jack Tessman NES6BR 40UAS-AAA Ben Bural XP6BR 40UAS-AA Rick Felter TC7TCU 22HALF SCALE:UASHS-INT Scott Thompson XP223 40+7 Gary Crews XP6TCU 40+6 Jackie Brown XP223 40 Jack Tessman NES6BR 40 Woody Liddell XP221BR 39UAS-AAA Dakota Turk XP22x47 40+3 John Waller XP223 35UHS-INT Gary Crews XP223IMP 40UHS-AAA Dakota Turk XP223IMP 36SMALL BORE:P-INT John Waller BRN 38U-INT Scott Thompson ANS 40U-AA Debra Tessman ANS 30UAS-INT Jack Tessman ANS 40+7 John Blue ANS 40+7 Jackie Brown ANS 40+6 Jim Fields, SR ANS 40 John Waller ANS 39 Debra Tessman ANS 38UAS-AAA Ben Bural ANS 39UAS-AA Rick Feller TC 30FIFTH SCALE:UASFS-INT Woody Liddell ANS 40+7 John Blue ANS 40+4 Jim Field,SR ANS 39 Scott Thompson ANS 39 Jackie Brown ANS 37 Jack Tessman ANS 31UHS-INT Woody Liddell ANS 36FIELD PISTOL:P-AAA Woody Liddell RPM30-20 28PAS-AAA Woody Liddell MOA22HOR 28

Four new shooters in February with 2 returning inMarch.BIG BORE:P-AAA Warren Alkire BF32-20 33R-AAA Warren Alkire FA357 24U-AAA Raymond Golden XP7BR 32UAS-AAA Raymond Golden XP7BR 37SMALL BORE:P-AAA Warren Alkire RUG 22

The Sin City Silhouette Shooters found some new faces and someold ones this month but are still a pretty small group. Sue Redhead hasstarted shooting BB with us and has some work to do but it is a start.Barry Krebs hadn't shot with us for some time but is getting his eye issuesworked out and hopes to be shooting more soon as well. I'm still workingon some loads my wrist will let me shoot and if Val had been there it mayhave looked like a real match.Kate Lightsey is loading her own now andmoving up some already and Gary D. is shooting well in U-AAA.

The Sin City Silhouette Shooters had probably our last day withoutthe heat for awhile, but we live here so we know it's coming. JoeKennedy shot a US-38 with his T/C in small bore and then, apparently, just to have some fun he shot FP-PAS with a 45 ACP with an aim point. The score may not have showed it but Joe was smiling all the way. KateLightsey was also smiling as she shot her Ruger 44 with open sights inboth FP categories. Sue Redhead is shooting 40's in UAS so she wants togo back and master PH. 32 ain't bad but you've got some work to do there

yet Sue. Art Cheshire made it in from Logandale and when he's healthyhe's always smiling. Debi Wright is having some knee problems(welcometo the club) so she can't shoot laying down yet and apparently she hasn't"cheated" with that gun in US standing so we'll give her a pass thismonth. Get Well Deb.

6/19/2016 With Val and Kate out of town and Debi and I on the DL (AGAIN!) TheSin City Silhouette shooters were only able to put 2 guns to the line. GaryD. would have shot 2 guns but his eye would not clear so he quit after adisappointing Revolver score. Our other shooter, Sue Redhead has beendoing with with the SB Game. She decided she needed a bigger challengeand she took on the toughest- Big bore Revolver. Shooting a recentlypurchased Ruger super Blackhawk and borrowed reloads she had a roughday but she is already working the problem and loving the challenge.BIG BORE:R-AA Gary Decoster RUG44M 27R-C Sue Redhead RUG44M 7

6/26/2016 It was your typical day for the sin city silhouette shooters. Art Chesireshowed up with new loads and no sight settings for FP and it showed. SueRedhead shot a 36 in PH22 so she wanted a little more challenge thanUAS so she shot UASFS. I think she needs a bit more cheatin’ time there.Gary Decoster shoot UAS for the first time ever and despite hitting thefirst ram in the foot he shot into INT class with a 40. Gary has troublewith his vision at times and more scope shooting could be in his future.Joe K. was our no-typical shooter. Joe wasn’t feeling well and had an offday. I should have shot US, Maybe I could have beaten him for a change.Joe shot a US-38 a couple of months ago and he’s a great shooter and agreat person. 7/24/2016 It was a light turn out for the Sin City Silhouette Shooters butwith the temp around 114 it's hard to blame too many people. As a groupwe are having physical problems as well. Let's just hope Aug is coolerand everyone comes back. It was kind of a strange day for us. We only had 5 actual 22scores fired and I fired 4 of them. Debi Wright was cruising to her 2nd legup in UAS when she got to thinking about that magical 40 and the 37thtarget jumped up and made her miss. That's what she told me and I'm in

no position to call her a liar. Sue Redhead is fighting mags that won't feedin her Charger and Val shot one target out of sequence to finish with a 38in UASFS. Val also shot a FP-PAS 21. not his best but better than it hasbeen. Val is not big on "cheatin" with that gun so it's just a grin andchuckle time for him anyway. LASC Match ReportMarch 12 & 13, 2015

By Jim Harris I made a bit of a mess of the top shooters category last month – in mytext, I was correct in citing high score in Rifle went to Mike Dewey witha nice 31. But in the “Top Rifle Shooter” I erred in adding both JR andBoris as the top dogs. Sorry Mike! Welcome back to silhouettes – Michael Liechty! Great to have youshooting with us again. A few people were working out the kinks with new gear. WilliamBrooker was obviously getting sight settings on his Dan Wesson 44revolver. Hulan Matthies found out that a 2X power scope is not enoughfor Practical Hunter Short Course. I’m sure both shooters will come bewith improved scores next time out. Boris Sorkin was the top rifle shooter, but I couldn’t tell which scorewas for match and which for re-run, 33 or36. Either way, he takes thehonors. Lots of cast bullet interest, especially over on Practical Hunter. ValShaver shot the top score of 40+5 with cast bullets in the Short Course(IHMSA Field Pistol targets to 100m). Nice shooting Val! Jerry Ray was match winner in Big Bore with an Unlimited 40+5, andalso in Smallbore with a 39 (missed the first chicken!) Thanks once again to our target setters, the L.A. Young Marines, andtheir mentors, Joe and Ramon. Sort of a small turnout this last match. Weather was a little warm, but notexcessive. Overall, pleasant conditions for the match. Most improved has to be Alan Miyamoto and his shooting freestyle. Hisscores have been coming up and up and he’s now getting verycompetitive. Jerry Napier had an excellent perfect score in the Practical Hunter ShortCourse (Pistol Cartridge). Sorry to see Val Shaver miss his last ram in 1/5 Scale UAS for a 39. Valhas three perfect scores for the year so far. Mike Takaki did very well as the high score in amongst the rifleshooters. A nice match for the pre-shoulder-surgery Jerry “JR” Ray – winningboth the Big Bore and Small Bore competitions.

We had our largest match of the year, and it was great to welcome RickRedd back. He’s been missed. & Rick showed that he hasn’t lost itwinning every entry and taking High Senior. Great shooting Rick!

On a sad note, we had a couple of casualties. Two shooters now own“silhouette Levis” with nice in and out .22LR holes. Names of theshooters will remain a secret to protect their reputations. We had one of those “once in a blue moon” events in Field Pistol, a tiefor match champion. The tie was between Dave Whitman (INT) andCharlie Dean (AAA). The shoot-off targets were pigs at 100 yards.Charlie rose to the occasion and hit 4x5 taking the title. Charlie also tookthe SB Revolver title. Paul Hoadley was our US champion.Walt was a bit disappointed in his rifle scores, but there is always nextmonth! Thanks to Dave, Charlie, Rick, Paul, & Walt for helping to set up and teardown the range and clean the office.

It was another good turnout. Thanks again to our supportive travelers! JoeCullison had a stellar day taking the Big Bore Production, Revolver,Standing and Unlimited Standing titles and earning entries in the 3 and 4Gun 140 Clubs and Standing 60+ Club.

Rick Redd was our UAS champion and Charlie Dean took the Unlimitedand Unlimited Half Scale Any Sight titles as well as High Senior.Charlie’s Unlimited score was our only iron sighted 40. Note, we had 339’s in UASHS. Dave Whitman left early without shooting shoot-offs andRick Redd decided not to as it was late in the day.

This Memorial Day weekend we held our normal 4th Saturday Air Pistolmatch, but our Big Bore match was moved to the 5th Sunday due toscheduling issues at the range. So, we had 2 matches back to back, and Idecided for simplicity’s sake to combine them into one report. On the AirPistol side, Barbara Rodriguez was High Lady and Standing champion

kicking my butt! Ron Silveira took the US title, and Frank Kodl was theUAS champion and High Senior. We enjoyed the company of Harry Sharp and his grandson Joshua Ferriat our Big Bore match on Sunday. Joshua took the Practical Hunter LongCourse title and was High Junior. He shot a very nice 35. Joe Cullisoncleaned up on the Big Bore side of things. He took the Production,Standing, and Unlimited Standing titles and won Revolver in a shoot-offwith Harry Sharp both tied at 38. He gained additional entries into thePresident’s 60+ Standing Aggregate, 3 Gun 100 Aggregate, and 4 Gun140 Aggregate Clubs as well. Doug Hockinson was our Big Bore Unlimited champion beating CharlieDean by reverse animal count. His score also moved him to AAA class.Great shooting Doug! Over on the Half Scale side, Charlie took the UAS title with a 40 andHarry took the iron sight title with a 39. Both scores were great; so, Idecided that they should share the High Senior title for the match. Two virus seemed to infect our shooters today. The Failure to Shoot WellStanding virus (except for Joe Cullison of course) and the Shoot Out ofOrder/Cross Fire virus. Thus, several scores were lower than normal. Doug Hockinson was our FP-P champion and Dave Whitman took thePAS title. Rich Burket is not happy with his 310 Cadet and continues tosearch for the right load. On the Small Bore side of thing, Dave Whitman took the Productiontitle by 1 target as well as the UASFS title. Mr. Standing (Joe Cullison)took the S & US titles and shot entries into the Standing, 3 Gun and 4Gun Aggregate Clubs. Rick Redd took the U & UAS titles and HighSenior. Charlie Dean and Joe tied in Revolver, and Charlie took that title 2x5targets to Joe’s 1x5. Revolver shoot-offs are fun! He had been out a time or two before but it has been several years. This was Dave Chalfant's last match shooting with our club. He has accepted a job in Texas. __ We had 6 shooters this month put 17 guns across the line. Theweather was warm and sunny with temperatures approaching 70 by the end of the match. This match was our lastchance to brush up for those going down to the West Coast Championships (WCC) down in Grants Pass Oregon June21st through 25th.. Several shooter have improved their scores from earlier in the year. On to the results of thematch. Only one 40 this month shot by myself in UHSAS-Int. Joe Stumpfseems to have gotten the Gremlins worked out of his UAS and UHSAS XP posting a UAS-Int, 38 followed by aUHSAS 29. Turns out the scope base had come loose. Probably the reason for not holding repeatable settings. Vince Leetegot the Gremlins worked out of his Unlimited XP that he had been having issues with misfires. I suggested he changeout the firing pin at the last match. We swapped the firing pin assemblyfrom another XP and problem solved so at this match he had replaced thefiring pin spring, no more issues and posted a nice U-AAA, 38. RichardNicol was close behind with a U-AAA 33. Steve Bishop took the scopeoff his XP in 7TCU and slapped some open sights on it. With no sightsettings he managed his way to an U-AAA, 21. His rear sight wasbottomed out and he was still a foot over the chickens so it was by guessand by golly the whole way out. Better get that front sight lowered andsome settings worked up for WCC. LOL. 2016 Georgia state championshipGainesville Georgia

May 5, 6, and 7By Ron Dixon

The Georgia State Smallbore, Fifth Scale and Field Pistol Championship for 2016 were held on May 5, 6, and 7th. We were blessed with good weather for the whole event, it might havestarted a bit cool and windy for the purist, but in reality it was great. Twenty seven shooters came out and fired ninety one entries. I am pleased to thank those who helped prepare the rangeand help run the match. Larry Davis helped replace some cross ties on which our string pull target systems are mounted. Herb Dalton called the line for the first two days and Ed Mundaycalled it on the third. Dave Chaney donated some items for door prizes and Andrew Wasley helped set and paint targets. Carol Barrett and Pattie Slaton brought cookies and a cake to helpkeep that sugar rush going, and Chuck Norman and his wife cooked a great spaghetti supper for the shooters on Saturday evening. And most of all let me thank my wife, Sherri, who helpedwith the whole thing. Our friend Robert Walker could not make it this year, and his absence opened the door for others to step up and be recognized. We sure missed Robert, and we look forward to his return.Richard Slaton, our Georgia shooter from Alabama, shot really well. He was crowned Champion for many of the events and also won the coveted Three Gun Aggregate. Richard Pickering wonthe Unlimited Any Sight class after a twenty round shoot off, where he hit ten of the tiny targets. They say the match director his nasty when he sets up the range with three banks of a fifth scaletargets at one hundred yards. The first target was a ram followed by a chicken then a pig and then two more chickens. The contest was decided with cold barrels and no sighters. And each ofthe three shooters had to fire five shots at each of the three banks. It was going to be a fifteen round match but we had a tie between Richard and Stuart Barrett from Alabama. So we investedfive more rounds to settle it. Richard came out on top by one target. By the way Stuart got into the shoot off from AA class. Let me give another thank you to Cherokee Gun Club for letting us hold the match here again this year, and another thanks to the shooters who play our game. This was the first year wewere able to use string pull fifth scale targets and that really made the event go faster, and with our fellows keeping the line moving we wound up with plenty of shooting opportunities whichmeans next year there will be room for you on the line. So come on out so we can make new friends.SB - Standings (In State)SB

Jim Fields, Match DirectorOKC Gun Club

Anyone missing this one missed some great weather, great times with special friends as well as some great food & excellent shootingconditions all three days, a little cool & humid on Saturday morning but not bad overall. We had a total of 151 entries for this match, about the same as last year. We had shooters from Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Minnesota as well as Oklahoma & all had a great time shooting steel, telling tales oftimes gone by & making excuses for missing targets. We had a total of thirty-one (31) 60x60’s shot in this match so everyone had a great time in the shoot-offs. Those shooting 60x60’s in this match were Woody Liddell (3), Jim Fields (3), Ryan Schuff (2) Scott Thompson (2), Bob Doherty (2)John Blue (1) Sean Murray (1) Jack Tessman (2) Steve Martens (2) Jackie Brown (3) Larry Jackson (1) Jack Wade (3) Dakota Turk (2)Chris Dunlap (2) Steven Crews (1) Linda Lanning (1) WOW!!! And check this out, we had a total of seventeen (17) 59x60’s!!!! One of the highlights of our match was Steve Martens from Minnesota, IHMSA’s new president, who won the 500 meter side matchwith another 40x40, in the scope class, his third now at OKCGC, he backed that up with a fine 34x40 in the 500 open sight class as well.great shooting Steve. On Thursday, prior to our IHMSA match, We hosted an AR-15 Steel Plate Challenge match which everyone enjoyed & the winnerswere as follows: SHORT COURSE - 100 to 300 meters - after a shoot-off - Glen Blanton with a 20x20+4. RAPID FIRE - Dan Baily -20X20 in 36.5 seconds, that's a new record. That is engaging targets at 300 meters, 200 meters, 150 meters & 100 meters in 36.5seconds!! WOW!! Our LONG RANGE winner, 200 meters, 300 meters, 385 meters & 500 meters, was Glen Blanton with a perfect20x20. Great shooting guys. Carroll Pilant came within one target of setting a new record in the rapid fire with a 19x20 in less than 30 seconds. Carroll said with alittle practice it can be done in 25 seconds & that my friend would be moving on!! This is a fun match we have hosted for 4 years now. Linda Lanning from Texas, won high lady in UAS-SB with 60x60+7; she also won high lady in UAS-BB with a 56x60Great shooting gal!! Carroll Pilant our Sierra Bullets rep, won the Bordello shoot-out. He also won our long-range lever-gun class, great shooting Carroll &we appreciate you attending our matches very much. Scott Thompson won the Iron Man award with an eight gun total of 402x480. Dakota Turk, a new shooter this year won the shoot-off in BB UAS with a 60x60+9 shoot-off targets at 200 meters. He has caught onthis sport in a hurry. Great shooting Dakota. Our high junior smallbore UAS champion was Ryan Schuff my grandson, who shot a fine 59x60 in UAS; high junior in AIR, 60x60;high junior in UASFS 1/5 scale, 58x,60, high junior in BB-UAS 60x60 as well as high junior in ½ scale BB, great shooting Ryan.. I’m taking Ryan on a black powder whitetail hunt the end of this month & yes, he's excited to say the least.!!Obviously we need to get more juniors involved in our wonderful sport of silhouette competition. We had a tremendous amount of door prizes we gave away. I think everyone in attendance won at least one prize. Our big raffle was for a Frankford Armory tumbler was won by Scott Thompson. I want to thank some of the companies who donated prizes or gift certificates for this match, Sierra Bullets, Midway USA, StarlineBrass, Redding Reloading equipment, Brownell's & Cabela's. Keep this in mind & mark your calendar, the 2016 IHMSA World Championships will be held here at the Oklahoma City Gun ClubJuly 15th thru the 22nd, so start making plans to attend that one for sure. Again, our target setters did an excellent job of keeping the match moving smoothly & the office personnel & line crew did anexcellent job, you guys are greatly appreciated. Also would like to thank Debbie Tessman for all her hard work feeding everyone eachday. We appreciate all our region IV shooters who travelled from out-of-state to attend this great match. Thanks also go to the guys from Minnesota, Steve Martens, A. J. Richards & his dad John, we enjoy you guys a lot & thanks forcoming down & shooting with us. That's a long trip from Minnesota. It was good to have Buddy Rhoads come up from Texas again. See all the match results accompanying this article. That about sums it up for now, shoot straight, shoot safe, & the good lord willing, I’ll see you at the next match.
