THE OLD MAN’S DAUGHTER AND THE OLD WOMAN’S DAUGHTER Once upon a time, there was an old man and an old woman ,who were married. Each of them had their own daughter. The old woman’s daughter was ugly, lazy and bad, while the old man’s daughter had a good heart and she was hard-working and very beautiful. The old man’s daughter used to be mistreated and insulted day by day by the old woman and her daughter, even she did all the work the farm. One day ,the old woman convinced her husband to send the good girl away. The beautiful girl left her home bitterly. On her way, she found a sick and weak dog, which asked for her help. The girl washed it and fed her. Then she went on. Then ,the girl found a pear tree which had worms eating its leaves and flowers. The girl cleaned the tree and then went on. Later, she reached a meadow. She met an old lady. The Saint Sunday who gave her work. She had to look after her babies-some dragons-and give her warm food when she came back from church. The girl did a great job and as a reward she had to choose a box ,but not open it until she reached home. The girl choose the smallest and ugliest box of all and went back home. On her way back she received two silver glasses with fresh water from the well, ripe pears from the oven and a chain of golden money. The old man’s daughter reached home and when she opened the box the yard became full of domestic animals. The old man was very happy for his daughter’s success, but the old woman was full of bitterness and jealousy. The old woman’s daughter left home thinking she could bring more reaches. But on her way to the Saint Sunday ,she didn’t help either the dog ,the well ,the pear tree ar the oven. She didn’t look after Sunday’s children well and she gave the lady hat food when she returned home from church. When she had to choose a box as a reward for her work, the bad girl chose the prettiest and the biggest box of all. On her way back home ,the girl was burnt by the oven when she tried taking bread, the well dried, the pear lifted its branches and the dog bit her. When she reached home, the old women came fast to see the riches. Instead, big dragons came out of the box and ate the two mean women. As the Romanian proverb says:”The reward will be according to the deeds.”
